DUE DATES:

11/12 - Thumbnail Sketches: Minimum of three thumbnail sketches in your sketchbook showing various arrangements/views of your fabric/clothing. You can turn in your sketches earlier - and therefore have more time to work on your drawing!

11/21 - In-Progress Check & Discussion: Minimum of 3 hours completed thus far on your final drawing, you must BRING IN your drawing on this date to get this grade!

12/3 - Final, completed drawing is DUE!

MATERIALS:

Art II - 12” x 18” paperArt II GT - 18” x 24” paper

(You can always use larger paper - this is a minimum)

You may use charcoal OR drawing pencils to complete this assignment.

CHOOSE an article of clothing (MUST be made of fabric!) that you identify as being special to you. It could be a gift from someone, clothing from a special event, something that you wear every day, a uniform, or even a childhood costume that you still have.

ARRANGE the item(s) you have chosen in such a way that they will create a dynamic composition. Consider hanging the item on something unexpected, spreading the item out in such a way that we would not normally expect to see it, showcasing the item with other objects that relate to you in order to create visual movement, etc.

LIGHT the scene to create lots of contrast and shadows - use a table lamp, a spotlight, a flash light, or another source.

PLAN your drawing by first completing three different thumbnail sketches of your set-up in your sketchbook. Make sure to consider the “keys to composition”: size, view, and placement.

Every area of the drawing appears equally complete; there are no neglected areas of the artwork.

The background/negative shapes were planned and carefully executed: they assist in unifying the drawing, rather than seeming empty or neglected

You demonstrated control over the media of your choice, and have used a wide range of full range of values to create contrast and the illusion of form, avoiding outlines

You thoughtfully, intentionally, and consistently applied your marks

OBJECTIVE:

You have completed a drawing of fabric / clothing that lends insight to something about you personally

You used either drawing pencils or charcoal, on the proper size paper (GT or Reg)

You rendered your fabric to appear life-like and believable as fabric
