Ideally for every new item of clothing you bring into your wardrobe, remove an item – take it to the charity shop or give it to your friend. This way you keep your clothing under control, a lot more manageable to keep it moth free and it will make your decision making in the morning a lot quicker! So with your smaller and more organized wardrobe and drawers you can start on the stages to get rid clothes moths. Disturb them! It was common to take out clothing and carpet and give them a good shake or a beating with a broom, but today we don’t do this so much and many areas of our clothes (and furnishings) are left undisturbed and this is what Clothes Moths like. So as they life cycle if under a month it pay to do this old time task at least one a month – not only will it disturb them, but may remove some of the larvae too. Remember – it’s the larvae that’s doing the damage – they hate light and they hate being disturbed with brushing, shaking etc. Vacuum everywhere! Get rid of moths by vacuuming thoroughly throughout your home – that includes inside all the nooks and crannies of your wardrobe and drawers if possible. But, make sure you empty the bag or empty the drum of the vacuum, otherwise they will simply hatch inside your home still! A Lint Roller Brush is great at getting to areas that you can’t easily reach with the Vacuum Cleaner – use it wrapped around your fingers to get into the corners of drawers and wardrobes too. Clean everything! If we’re talking about a bad moth infestation you will have to be very thorough here.. they love sweat, old food stained items – even make up and hair product stains so wash these items as hot as you possibly can and don’t delay taking Dry Clean Only items to the Dry Cleaners as soon as possible. Now you can start to protect with Moth Deterrents and Store For very delicate items wrap them (once clean!) in acid free tissue paper before putting in their storage bags. And make sure they are in sealed bags made from man made materials to reduce the likelihood of penetration – placing a Moth Deterrent inside your stored items provide even great protection. Protect yourself from clothes moths There’s a wide range of Moth Deterrents available – some can be hung in wardrobes, placed in drawers and storage areas. Some even give you an efficiency indicator so you know when to replace them.
