Trained BHS science students teach science lessons specifically written to align with

BCSD, Ohio and National standards

All Berea City School District are invited to attend.

The Purpose of this Class:To enhance the overall achievement in science subjects while fostering a deeper understanding of environmental concepts for local and global environmental stewardship by providing authentic hands on learning experiences that are aligned with the BCSD and Ohio Science Benchmarks.

Educational Overview

• Hands-on “Pre-Coe” and “Post-Coe” science lessons are taught by the classroom teachers at

each elementary school for each grade.• Four hands-on science lessons are taught by BHS

student teachers at the Coe Lake site for each grade.

Educational Overview Coe Lake Classrooms

– Sandstone Seminar – Earth Science with the history of Berea woven in where appropriate

– Environmental Science – Includes all Science disciplines and associated environmental issues

– Hydrology – Water Science and wise use practices

– Life Science – Botany, Biology and Ecology

Curricular Materials

• Nine K-2 Elementary Resource Boxes – complete• Nine 3-5 Elementary Resource Boxes – complete• Three 6-8 Elementary Resource Boxes – may be in the future

Resource Boxes include all grade-level lesson plans and supplies necessary for the “Pre-Coe” and “Post-Coe” lessons taught by the

classroom teacher at each school

Curricular Materials

Two to four large Resource Bins for each grade level include all of the

lesson plans, copies of ancillary

materials and equipment for each science
