Marie Cummings will help you along your artistic journey with an outside the box perspective. She will show you many experimental ways to make texture, which can be used in both representational and abstract work. Her focus will be on abstract composition and design. Marie’s teaching method is intuitive, helping you reach beyond your comfort level. Each day, Marie will present an idea that you may decide to incorporate into your painting.
She will start each day with a demo from which you will learn to apply these techniques to your own painting. She’ll show you how to take an unfinished painting and turn it into a new painting. A former student said “I enjoyed your class immensely and you have encouraged and inspired me to do a little art each day. You have such a joi d'art and it is contagious!!“ Marie is an experimental water media artist and instructor. Her paintings are shown internationally and she currently resides in the Catskill Mountains.
Marie Cummings was born in Detroit, Michigan. There she studied psychology and business at Wayne State University. She moved to Clearwater, Florida with her three daughters, where she embarked on a career as a Realtor. When her last daughter entered college, Marie decided to seek a new direction in her life: she wanted to explore the world of visual art. While studying experimental water media at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center (Dunedin, Florida), she also ventured into creative writing at St. Petersburg College (St. Petersburg, Florida). This dual experience served as a launching pad for a serious embrace of fine art from an outside-the-box viewpoint. Marie has focused on the creative potential of water media. She finds deep, rich, bold hues intensely exciting. Her work is a form of meditation, an expression of her soul. Marie is a signature member of the Florida Watercolor Society, the National Association of Women Artists, Society of Layerists in Multimedia, International Society of Experimental Artists, Tallahassee Watercolor Society, and Watercolor USA Honor Society. She has conducted workshops around the world. Her work has been acquired by art lovers and can be seen in major collections both National and International.
