Langston. Langston served from 1950 until his re- tirement in 1986 as professor of reli- gious educ ation at Campbell University. The SBREA award recognizes Southern Baptist religious educators who have made outstanding contribu- tions to religious education through years of service and life-long commit- ments a church staff workers and or denominational workers. Guidelines for selection of recipients include worthy and extended service in reli- gious education, recognition of service by co!lcgucs in religious education, broad influence which may include writing and conference leading, and membershi p and participation in SBREA and sister association. Langston joined CU in 1950 and has taught courses in pychology, socio!- ogy, Bible and religious education. His primary writing was "Depth Study Guide of a Local Church Program" which was used by 88 students in out - standing churches. He also served as a lay Sunday school director and teacher. He is past president of the Eastern Baptist Religious Education Associa- tion and of the North Carolina Profes- sors of Religion. Langston was a mem- ber of the North Carolina and Southern Baptist Religious Education Associa- · Lion. He was recognized by CU for Ex- cellence in Teaching. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary pre- sented him its Distinguished Alumnus Award and the Distinguished Service Award.

Posthumous Leader Award Is Presented

At its annual meeting in India-napolis, the Sout 1ern Bapllst Religious Education Association presented its Distinguished Lead-er Award posthumously to Perry Q. Langston.

Dr. Langston served from 1950 until his retirement in 1986 as professor of religious education at Campbell University.

The SBREA award recognizes Southern Baptist religious educa-tors who have made outstanding contributions to rellgious educa-tion through years of service and lifelong commitments as church staff workers and/or denomina-tional workers.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to mlssionaxy parents, Dr. Langston was a graduate of Clemson Uni-versity and received his master of religious education and doctor of religious degrees from the South-western Bapllst Theological Semi-nary, Fort Worth, Texas. He did additional graduate study in psy-chology at the University of Michigan.

While serving in World War II as an Army infantry captain in the North African invasion, Dr. Langston was left a paraplegic from his battle wounds. He was awarded the Silver Star. the third highest mllltaxy honor bestowed on a serviceman by the Army.
