    - D O -Total gasoline consumption for

both highway and non-highway uses in Indiana ' amounted to 2,767,01.1,000 gallons in 1972, acc e d i n g to the Indiana Petroleum Council. David R. Davis, executive secretary of the Council, noted that the figures represented a 5.8 per cent increase over the previous year. This compared with a 6.5 per cent rise nationwide. — o o —

The gasoline shortage may be a blessing in disguise, noted an official of the Nat.onal. Automo-"r:J]-3 Associativa. Among the measures being conoid* red to slew the flow of gasoline is a reduction in speed limits.

If every motorist drove from five to ten miles per hour slower than his usual rate, gasoline usage would be reduced by millions of gallons, and a? a beneficial r-.de effect, the savings in lives undoubtedly would run into the thousands. Thirty-three per cent of all automobile accident fatalities are caused by "speed too fast." This is interpreted to be: spred beyond posted limits, speed too fast for weather conditions and speed to fast for road conditions.

    LITTLE TOWN

It 's good to live in a little town Where neighbors all say "Hi"

And lend the'.r hearts a.s well as hands

When tragedy stalks by. Where flowers are. cut from shady

yards And brought to cheer dark

hours By friends whose lives but em

phasize The beauty of the flowers.

I t ' s good to live in a little town To work and share and plan

With folks who know the whole of life

And dignity of man. I t ' s good to live in a little town

The air 'is clean and sweet Ar.d life "becomes more meaningful

    Where town and country meet.

A patent for the invention of a "safety pin" was granted to Walter Hunt, of New York City on April 10, 1S49.

With most of your washables now made of permanent press material, long hours of tedious ironing are a thing of the p a s t . . . providing you have the right kind of clothes dryer.

Modern Gas Dryers have the precise controls needed to dry pre-pressed clothing perfectly. There's actually a specific setting just for permanent press clothes. They come out with a freshly-ironed look that delights the busy homemaker. s

    Replace your old dryer

with a new, work-saving GAS DRYER!
