David Bruck is a Clinical Professorof Law at Washington & Lee Schoolof
Law,and Directorof the Virginia Capital Case Clearinghouse,a law school clinic
and resource center for lawyers defending capitally-chargedclients throughout
Virginia. He has also served,since 1992,as FederalDeathPenalty Resource
Counsel to the federal defender system. (The FederalDeathPenaltyResource
CounselProject is a national clearinghouse for informationand support for court-
appointed defense counsel in federal capital cases; its responsibilities includethe
collection,analysis and disseminationof data concerningfederal death penalty

Bruck has frequently testified before U.S.Congressionalcommittees on death
penalty legislation,and has lectured to state and federal judges, lawyers,and
mental healthprofessionalson capitalsentencing issues in more than 30 states and
U.S.territories. He receivedthe John MinorWisdomPublicService & Profes-
sionalismAward from the ABA Section of Litigationin 1996,and the Significant
Contributionsto CriminalJustice Award from CaliforniaAttorneys for Criminal
Justice in 2001. He has taught seminars on the law of capitalpunishmentat the
