The bedside clinic always entails the presence of the patient

PURPOSE

Is to portray the nursing problems typically associated with a particular disease or disorder and to give a vivid picture of the related nursing care by associating it with a specific individual

Who will conduct bedside clinic?

•Nursing clinics may be conducted by the head nurse or clinical instructor

What to discuss?

•In a nursing clinic the patient’s medical history and therapy are discussed

•Emphasis is placed on his nursing care including its physical, mental and social components

Type of patients

Patients with typical rather than unusual conditions should be selected for clinics

CHARACTERISTICS

• Group should be small enough to gather around the bed in an informal way

• Explain the procedure to the patient and Get willingness from the patient

• During clinic patient may be asked to tell something about his illness and family

• Patient not present for entire discussion

CHARACTERISTICS

• The clinic usually lasts for 30 minutes

• After the clinic evaluation should be done to assess the effectiveness of the presentation by the head nurse
