Getting Started
Pre-requisites
The following pre-requisites must be met for optimum performance of the Clinical Audit Tool
(CAT). Please ensure all pre-requisites are met before proceeding with the installation process:
Your practice MUST be on Medtech32 Version 19.9 or above. If you ARE NOT on
Medtech32 Version 19.9 or above, please DO NOT continue and contact the Medtech
Helpdesk for assistance.
Before installing the Clinical Audit Tool, please ensure that Medtech 32 has the latest
MIMS updates installed.
Before installing the Clinical Audit Tool, please run the Pre-install Check utility to
determine if your machine environment meets the necessary pre-requisites to install and
run CAT.
Your practice MUST have Medtech32 in the Intranet (Local Network). Once CAT is
integrated with Medtech32, CAT can be used through Citrix and Terminal Servers as
well.
Ensure that your machine has Internet Information Services (IIS) version 5.1 or higher
installed before you install the Clinical Audit Tool.
The Clinical Audit Tool requires .NET Framework 2.0 or above installed on your
machine/server. Whilst installing the Clinical Audit Tool the installer will check if the .NET
Framework 2.0 or above pre exists on your machine, and if not, it will prompt you to
install it before proceeding further with the CAT installation.
The Clinical Audit Tool requires the IB Provider OLE DB Driver to be installed on your
machine/server. Whilst installing the Clinical Audit Tool the installer will check if the IB
Provider OLE DB Driver pre exists on your machine, and if not, the installer will provide
the option to install the IB Provider OLE DB Driver.
The Clinical Audit Tool is a browser based tool and it has been tested with Internet
Explorer 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 beta and Firefox 3.0. Best performance was noted with Internet
Explorer and it is therefore recommended that users run the Clinical Audit Tool with
Internet Explorer.
The Clinical Audit Tool uses Fusion Charts for its Graphing capability. Adobe Flash
Player version 8 and above is required for this purpose. While running the Clinical Audit
Tool for the first time on your machine there will be an automatic prompt which will guide
you to the Adobe website to download the Flash Player. The Adobe Flash Player has
also been included on the Clinical Audit Tool installation CD for users to select and
install.

CAT Installation Process
The installer for the Clinical Audit Tool will install all software, drivers and frameworks required
for the Clinical Audit Tool to function.
The Latest Version of Clinical Audit Tool can be downloaded from our website
www.medtechglobal.com.
Select the Region: New Zealand from the Region dropdown list on the top right corner
of the screen. New Zealand Home Page will be displayed.
Select from the menu, Medtech Online Clinical Audit Tool Downloads. Clinical
Audit Tool Downloads page will be displayed

1. Clinical Audit Tool installation wizard screen will be displayed.
2. An Installation Information screen showing the pre-requisites for the Clinical Audit Tool
installation will be shown. Ensure that the pre-requisites are meet before proceed with
the installation.
3. To check if the machine environment meets the pre-requisites for installation, click the
‘Run the compatibility check now’ button. A CAT Pre-install Check window will be
opened displaying the pre-requisite settings on the particular machine.

If the machine environment does not meet the pre-requisite requirements, the CAT Pre-
Install Check screen will highlight which pre-requisites need to be updated.

4. Click Save and Close button to save and close the CAT Pre-install Check window. A
message box will be displayed as shown below confirms the Pre-requisites details will
be saved as a RTF file in the following path ‘C:\Users\...’ Click OK button to continue the
installation.

5. If the machine environment meets the pre-requisites, click on the Next button in the
Installation Information screen. Select Installation Folder screen will be displayed as
shown below. By default the instalaltion path will be “C:”, if required user can change the
installation path by clicking on the Browse button. Click Next to continue the installation
process.
6. The Installer will check for the .NET Framework 2.0 on the machine which is a
prerequisite for CAT installation.
If the .NET Framework 2.0 is already installed, the below message ‘Installation
Aborted’ will not be displayed. Go to Step 7 to continue the CAT Installation.
If the .NET Framework is not installed, a prompt will be displayed to first install the
framework before proceeding further, as shown below. Clicking the OK button will
cancel the CAT installation.

7. After checking for the .NET Framework 2.0 or above, the IBProvider Setup Wizard
screen will be displayed.
If the IBProvider is already installed in the machine, then click Cancel button and go
to Step 14 to continue the CAT Installation Process.
If the IBProvider is not installed previously in the machine, then click Next to start
install the IBProvider
8. The License Agreement screen will be displayed. Read the terms of the license
agreement and select the option “I accept the agreement”. Click Next to continue the
installation process.

9. Select Destination Location screen will be displayed. By default the destination path
will be displayed as ‘C:\Program Files\LCPI_IBProvider’. If required, user can select a
different destination folder by clicking on the Browse button. Click Next to continue the
installation.

10. IBProvider Select Components screen will be displayed. Ensure all the checkbox
options are selected and click the Next button.

11. Ready to Install screen will be displayed. Click Install to begin the IBProvider
installation.
12. The IBProvider Driver Installing screen will display the progress of the installation.

13. IBProvider Installation completed screen will be displayed. Click Finish to exit
IBProvider setup.

14. The installer will automatically detect the presence of Internet Information Service (IIS)
version 5.1 or above in the machine.
If the machine is already installed with IIS, the ‘Installation Aborted’ message given
below will not be displayed. Go to Step 15 to continue the CAT Installation.
If the machine does not have IIS version 5.1 or above installed, it will prompt a
message box to install IIS version 5.1 or above before proceeding further. Clicking
the OK button will abort the CAT installation.
On Windows 7 machines, IIS can be installed in parts, so it is possible that a pre-
existing installation would have installed the partial components of the IIS. For this
situation, the CAT installer will automatically detect if partial components have been
installed and will display a prompt accordingly as shown below and abort the CAT
installation.
For IIS installation, please refer to Installing Internet Information Service on Different
Machines section.

15. CAT Installation progress screen will be displayed as shown below:
16. The Installation will automatically select the database for the Clinical Audit Tool to be
connected to, based on the Registry of the Medtech32 installation, and during the
installation process a prompt will be shown giving the details of the database path and
the machine name where the Clinical Audit Tool has been installed.
17. HealthStat Screening Terms import screen will be displayed, if registered with
HealthStat. Select the option ‘Yes, Import HealthStat Screening Terms’ and click OK
button to import the screening terms that are specific for HealthStat queries into the
Screening Mapper.

18. CAT Data Extraction Utility screen will be displayed. Select the option ‘Yes, Extract
the CAT data during installation process’ and click OK button to run the CAT Data
Extraction Utility during the installation process. This utility will extract the data required
for analysis from the MT32 database and will populate the CAT database.
IMPORTANT NOTE If the option ‘Yes, Extract the CAT data during installation process’ is unselected, the
CAT installation will be completed and then the user can use the Windows scheduler to
schedule the running of the extraction utility or this can be run manually (Please refer to
section ‘Using the Windows Scheduler to run the Data Extraction Utility’ &
‘Running the Data Extraction Utility Manually’)
19. CAT Installation Completed screen will be displayed. Click Finish to complete the CAT
installation.

20. The user will then be prompted to restart their machine to complete the installation.
Ensure that the computer is restarted before proceeding further. But if you have selected
to run the data extraction utility during the installation process itself then you would have
to wait till the extraction is done to restart your machine.
21. The installation process will save the Clinical Audit Tool in a specific deployment folder
titled MedtechCAT. The CAT installer will give this folder full access permission for
ASP.NET automatically and this will be done for all systems be it XP, Vista or Windows
server.

22. Once CAT has been installed, log into Medtech32. To launch CAT, go to CAT menu
Launch Clinical Audit Tool, as shown below.
A CAT custom browser will open displaying the CAT home page as shown below.

Installing Internet Information Service on Different Machines
If the user wants to proceed with IIS installation, they must know that this process varies
according to the system being used. The details are given below:-
Installing IIS on Windows 7 Machines
1. Go to Start menu Control Panel Programs and Features and click on the link
“Turn Windows features on or off”.

2. In the “Turn Windows features on or off” screen, expand the IIS section and tick the
selection boxes under Web Management Tools & World Wide Web Services as shown
below. Click the OK button and all IIS components should be installed sucessfully.

Installing IIS on Windows 2003 Server
1. Go to Start menu Control Panel Add or Remove Programs to bring up the Add
or Remove Programs screen and click on the Add/Remove Windows Components
icon as shown below:
2. Windows Components Wizard screen will be displayed. Select the component titled
Application Server as shown below and click the Next button. This will install all the
components required for IIS and the machine will be ready for the remaining process of
CAT installation.

IMPORTANT NOTE Overriding Security Restrictions in Windows 2003 Server Because of security restrictions in Windows 2003 server, it is possible that even after installing
IIS and CAT successfully in your server you may not be able to access CAT. To overide this
restriction, the following steps must be performed:-
Open IIS Manager by typing INETMGR at RUN command.
In IIS Manager, expand the local computer and click Web Service Extensions.
In the details pane, click ASP.NET v2.0 web service extension.
Clicking the “Allow” button will remove the restrictions on your server.
Internet Explorer’s high security restriction can occassionally block the functionalities of CAT. It
is advisable to add the CAT URL in the trusted/Allow lists.

Installing IIS on Windows XP Machines
1. Go to Start menu Control Panel Add or Remove Programs to bring up the Add
or Remove Programs screen and click on the Add/Remove Windows Components
icon as shown below:
2. Windows Components Wizard screen will be displayed. Select the component titled
Internet Information Services (IIS) as shown below and click the Next button. This will
install all the components required for IIS and the machine will be ready for the
remaining process of CAT installation.

Using the Windows Scheduler to run the Data Extraction Utility
To run CAT Data Extraction Utility on scheduled intervals of time users can use the windows
scheduler, given below are the steps how this can be done:
1. Go to Start menu Control Panel Administrative Tools Task Scheduler to
bring up the Task Scheduler window.
2. Click on the Task Scheduler Library (on the left pane) to view the list of Scheduled
Tasks.
3. Click on the Create Task link (on the right pane) to bring up the Create Task window.
There are five more tabs available in this window.

General Tab
Enter the name of the task to be displayed in the Task Scheduler window
Ensure that the Author field will be displayed with <domain name>\Administrator

Select the option ‘Run whether user is logged on or not’ to run the task even if the
user logged on or not
Select the checkbox option ‘Run with highest privileges’
Trigger Tab
This trigger causes the task to run according to a schedule, and the trigger settings allow
the user to set the schedule. User can choose to schedule the task at one time, or on a
daily, weekly, or monthly schedule.
Click on the New… button to bring up the New Trigger window.
Ensure that the option ‘On a Schedule’ is selected in the Begin the task field
Select an appropriate schedule from the Settings section.

One time – If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose a date and time
to trigger the task.
Daily – If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the recurrence
interval for the task and the date and time to start the task. An interval of 1 produces
a daily schedule and an interval of 2 produces an every other day schedule. The task
will start at the specified time each day.
Weekly – If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the recurrence
interval for the task, the date and time to start the task, and the days of the week in
which to start the task. An interval of 1 produces a weekly schedule and an interval
of 2 produces an every other week schedule. The task will start at the specified time
on each of the specified days.
Monthly – If this option is selected, then it is mandatory to choose the months to
start the task and the days of the month or the days of the week for the selected
months to start the task.

Tick the option ‘Repeat task every’ to set a repetition time interval for the task.
Select an appropriate repetition time interval from the respective drop down list to
run the task, wait for the time interval specified and then run again.
Select an appropriate interval from the respective dropdown list to continue this
cycle until the duration time is met.
Tick the option ‘Stop any task that runs longer than’ and select an appropriate
time interval from the dropdown list to stop long running tasks.
Tick the option ‘Expire’ and select an appropriate date and time intervals from the
respective dropdown lists for the trigger to expire.
Click OK button. The selected trigger details will be displayed in the Trigger tab as
shown below:

Actions tab
Click on the New… button to bring up the New Action window.
Ensure that the option ‘Start a Program’ is selected in the Action field.
In the Settings section, click on the Browse button and select the file
CATAccessByXML.exe from the MedtechCAT Bin folder.

Click OK button in the New Action window. The Selected file will be displayed in the
Action tab as shown below:

Conditions tab
Ensure that the option ‘Start the task only if the computer is on AC power’ is
selected.
Unselect the option ‘Stop if the computer switches to battery power’.
Tick the option ‘Wake the computer to run this task’.

Settings tab
Ensure that the options ‘Allow task to be run on demand’ and ‘Run task as soon
as possible after a scheduled start is missed’ are selected
Tick the option ‘If the task fails, restart every’ and select an appropriate time
interval from the dropdown list to restart the task if the task fails to run
Ensure that the option ‘Stop the task if it runs longer than’ and select an
appropriate time interval from the dropdown list to limit the amount of time the task
is allowed to run
Ensure that the option ‘If the running task does not end when requested, force it
to stop’ is selected. If this option is selected, the task will be forced to stop if the
task does not respond to a request to stop.
4. Click OK button to create a Task. User Account Information window will be displayed.

5. Enter the Administrator Password and click OK button.
6. Task for CAT Extraction Tool has been created and will be displayed in the Task
Scheduler Library as shown below:

7. During the specific Scheduled time the ‘Clinical Audit Tool - Data Extraction’ screen
will be displayed. Click on the Start button to extract the data from MT32 database and
to be populated into CAT application.
Run the Extraction Utility in the Background
1. To run the Utility in the Background, double-click the CAT Extraction Tool file in the
Task Scheduler Library.
2. The Scheduler properties window (CAT Extraction Tool properties) will be displayed.

3. Click on the Edit button to bring up the Edit Action window.

4. Enter the capital letter ‘A’ in the Add arguments (optional) field and click OK button.
5. The argument letter ‘A’ will now be displayed at the end of the Utility path name in the
scheduler properties window.

6. Click OK button to run the utility under a background process so that no User Interface is
displayed every time the extraction utility runs based on the scheduler settings.

Run the Data Extraction Utility Manually
1. If the user wants to update the CAT database under certain circumstances like say after
inputting the screening mapper parameters or if you want some data updated in MT32 to
be populated in CAT immediately, under these circumstances the CAT Data Extraction
Utility can be run manually.
2. During the CAT installation process a shortcut to the Data Extraction Utility is added to
the desktop of the computer CAT is installed on
3. This can be also done by going to MedtechCAT folder ► Bin ►
CATAccessByXML.exe
NOTE: This process can take several minutes or several hours based on the size of
your practice’s database.

4. Double-click this .exe to bring up the Clinical Audit Tool - Data Extraction screen as
shown below. Click Start button to extract the data from MT32 database and to be
populated into CAT application.
5. The Extraction Utility screen will display the log of the tables that are being populated, so
the user can view the start and end time for the data extraction process for each of these
tables that are being populated in CAT Database.
6. If the extraction process completes successfully without any errors, a message
Extraction Completed will be displayed. Click Close to close the screen.
