Teaching Objectives Unit: THE DARK SIDE OF TECHNOLOGY To participate in proceedings proposed in class. To detect the amount of technological consumption that exists in our society. To participate in a reflection about technological consumption. To situate different countries in a political map. To develop skills to search information in Internet. To know coltan as a mineral used for the fabrication of some technological products. To know the social problem that encompasses the extraction of this mineral. To reflect about environmental, social and political consequences, Dichotomy about Third World and a developed society. To develop teamwork. To create a critical thinking about the topic of the unit. To know specific vocabulary and vocabulary related to the topic. Benefits and dangers of the technologies. Coltan as a mineral. Where and how can we obtain it? Basic aspects of different minerals and their utilities Localization of different countries into the map. Development of teamwork. Relations between humans and animals. Área: Social and Natural Sciencies Lessons: 6 Ed. Level: 5º Final Task Students will design a poster-mural, where express their understanding on the extraction of Coltan and its consequences. In addition, they will create solutions to try to alleviate the situation that will be included in the mural. Finally, the task will be exposed in class. Moreover the task will be assessed by peers. Assessment Criteria Participation in the class proceedings. Positive attitude towards their partners and teamwork. Participation in the reflections proposed in class. Localization of different countries in the map. A correct internet search of information requested. Basic concepts about coltan: localization, where, how and who obtain this mineral. Formulation of ideas about the topic proposed in class. Acquisition of basic concepts related to mining and coltan. Ability of critical thinking.
