• Around 1966, Audience Studies Institute developed an Audience Response System

• Used by movie, television, and advertising industries to evaluate the market appeal of unreleased movies, TV shows, and commercials.

• Consisted of handsets with a dial that the audience used to indicate their level of interest – Right for Great and Left for Dull.

• Repsonses were tranmitted to a receiver that tabulated the results.
