Week commencing 20th April

x Follow the link below to BBC Bitesize to learn how we rate the power and energy consumption of an electrical appliance https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zyfgr82/revision/2

x Write down the relationship between Power in Watts (W) and Energy in Joules (J)

x Energy (J) = Power (W) x Time (seconds) x Note: some electrical appliances use a lot of power, so their rating is in kWatts, where 1

kW = 1000 W Task 3 – Energy and power calculations (You will need a calculator)

1. In the Energy booklet Answer as many questions as you can from 20-26 in your book 2. When finished open the attached “Energy Lesson 4 answers” file to check your answers

Extension – Energy costs in the Home

• In the home our energy bill would be in million of Joules each day. • So Electricity is paid for with a different energy unit called the kiloWatt hour (kWh) • Follow the link below to BBC Bitesize to learn how you parent’s electricity bill is

calculated https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zttrd2p/revision/2 • Write the equation to calculate how much energy a house uses:

energy in kWh = power in kW × time in hours And then how the bill is calculated: cost = energy used in kWh × cost of 1 kWh

• Attempt the calculations on the page 2, then reveal the answers to check your answer.
