WeConnect Office Blessingby Kara Orejola

CL Fol losco Group recently welcomed

yet another new company,

WeConnect Training and

Development Solutions, Inc.

WeConnect is an outsourcing

company that develops talents and

prepares them for employment

opportunities in Business Process

Outsourcing (BPO) companies in the

Phil ippines. It provides a systematic

process of search, training and

development of qual ified individuals.

Its office is located at Suite 404, 4th

Floor CLF1 Bldg. The blessing,

officiated by Fr. Max Ocampo, was

held on April 21, 2012.

WeConnect Office Blessing

The launching of CLFG’s newest

product, the CLFG Aqua Care Dry

Acid, was held last August 29, 2012 at

the 2nd Floor, Training Room CLF I

Bldg. The product launch, “Aqua Care

Dry Acid: Experience the Advantage,”

was spearheaded by Engr. Fritzie Azur,

an Alpha Technical Assistant.

Representatives from different CLFG

Units attended the said event.

Engr. Azur discussed what Dry Acid is,

its many uses and its advantages over

muriatic acid.

The CLFG Aqua Care Dry Acid is

imported from Jones-Hamilton Co. of

Walbridge, Ohio, USA. The company

was establ ished in 1951 and is one of

only two producers in US of Dry Acid

also known as Sodium Bisulfate. It is a

leader in producing, packaging and

distributing chemicals and

compounds for a variety of customers

and end-users. Jones-Hamilton Co.

has authorized the Al l ied Sales

Corporation as an exclusive

distributor of their product, Dry Acid,

in the Republ ic of the Phil ippines.

Dry Acid is not only used to reduce

pH of water but also has other

appl ications in metal industries,

tanning industries, water treatment

plants, agriculture industries, pesticide

manufacturers, construction industries

and janitorial companies.

Dry Acid is an acid salt which is used

in balancing the pH level of swimming

pool water. With the tagl ine, “No Gas.

No Fumes. No Stress.” it serves as an

ideal replacement for the hazardous

muriatic acid. Unl ike muriatic acid,

the dry acid is in granular form, so

there is no danger of spil ls and

splashes. It has no irritating and toxic

fumes and is not corrosive to poolside

accessories and metal parts of

transport vehicles. It is more

affordable and has less operating

cost. It has fewer regulations for

storage and transport and can be

easily handled and stored.

The program ended with a group

activity where the audience appl ied

what they have just learned about Dry

Acid. The audience was divided into

five groups. Engr. Niña Robles’ group

got the highest points and won first

place.

Christmas is the most anticipated

event of the year for most Fil ipinos.

As early as the first “ber” month,

people already get giddy over the

festivity that comes with it and over

the thought of being with family at

home while enjoying a scrumptious

Noche Buena.

To partake in the nation's celebration

of Christ's Birthday, CLFG held its

annual Christmas party at Silver Place

Hotel in the morning of December 23,

2011. The party commenced with an

interpretative prayer which was

fol lowed by opening remarks by

Alpha's product Manager, Engr. Josie

Vil laflores.

CLFG Christmas party has become a

venue for every employee to

showcase their talents. The theme

“CLFG Got Talent: Talentado kami”

was adopted from one of the

country's talent shows to al low

competition among equal ly talented

employees from the three clusters of

the group.

To warm up the audience were

performances by the ubiquitous, now

grown-up members of Legion of Mary

and by the vibrant new employees of

CLFG.

The first cluster to take the spotl ight

during the competition proper was

the Manufacturing cluster who, al l

clad in green, sang a few Christmas

songs with their wonderful joyous

blend of voices. They also performed

their own version of a shadow play

that was recently popularized by a

group of real ity show contestants.

Next to perform was the defending

champion, Finance Cluster, who stood

out in their red outfit accessorized

with gold arm band. They sang

acoustic songs and danced vigorously

in front of the cheering crowd.

The last to perform but definitely not

the least was the Trading Cluster who

always have had a unique

presentation. They chose a narrative

number entitled “Sino ang Bal iw”

where the cluster members showed

their acting skil ls while singing and

dancing at the same time. They were

also able to show a few magic tricks

that left the crowd in awe.

Selected members of the Fol losco

family adjudged Trading as the best

performer, fol lowed by Finance then

Manufacturing Cluster.

Parlor games were also held in

between cluster performances.

A luscious lunch was served after the

employees’ performances. It was

fol lowed by gift giving. Al l efforts

seemed to pay off upon seeing

everyone brimming with joy at the

gifts they received.

The event wil l not be complete

without the raffle draw. I bet everyone

had their fingers crossed, hoping and

wishing that their names wil l be cal led

as the adorable great grandson of the

chairman read every name drawn

from the raffle jar. However, some

people were real ly born to be luckier

than the rest l ike Ms. Gina of Tarlac

branch who did not only get the

grand cash prize but also one of the

major home appl iance prizes.

Nevertheless, no employee went

home empty-handed and

downhearted as those who didn't get

any raffle item were given cash prizes.

Al l CLFG Employees sang a

community song to official ly end the

party.

Christmas Party in Davao

CLFG Davao took part in the

merriment of the Christmas season by

having their smal l gathering on

December 22, 2011 at Fel is Resort

Complex.

After a long day at work, CLFG

employees, Bebot Cifra, Cris Tamayo,

Joy Acebes, Cheryl Queniahan, and

Randy Emuy were al l giddy to start

unwinding.

Since there were only five of us, we

invited family members and other

guests to make the celebration even

merrier.

Of course, a Christmas party is never

complete without a mouth-watering

feast! Fel is Resort provided a

delectable selection of food ranging

from meat to pasta dishes.

After the festive dinner, we just

enjoyed the breathtaking view of Fel is

Resort as we shared anecdotes

among CLFG officemates, family

members and guests. The most

notable activity in our Christmas party

is the al l-time favourite Pinoy hobby,

videoke!

Christmas Party in Cebu

Just l ike in Davao, our Christmas party

in Cebu was a gastronomic feast. It

lasted the whole day of December 23,

2011. Guil lan Fernandez and Yvonne

Tabion had lunch at Cel ia’s Sutukil

and Restaurant, Mactan Shrine, Lapu-

Lapu City, Cebu. We had SuTuKil ,

short for SUgba (ihaw) – TUla (tinola)

– KILaw (kilaw).

After lunch, we headed back to the

office and ordered pizza from

Alberto’s Pizza. As if that was not

enough for the two of us, we also had

snacks from Mang Inasal del ivered to

our office.

That was how our Christmas party

went – we celebrated by eating,

eating and eating!

Christmas Party in Dagupan

Despite coming from different CLFG

North Branches, we also had a great

time during our Christmas Party last

December 23, 2011 at Silverio’s

Restaurant, Bonuan, Dagupan City. It

was a sunny day and Laila Llego, Cris

Martinez, Art Duzon, Shirley Jose and

Donato Laurean arrived early for the

lunch party. While waiting, we sat at

the terrace overlooking the river and

had a chat with a local boatman .

When Sheryl Aquino, Dom Viray and

Joyce Paysa arrived, we went inside

the restaurant. The clock struck 12

noon, the band played and

entertained us with their songs while

the food was being served. The food

was great! We had our fi l l of crispy

fried hito, crispy pata, inihaw na

bangus, gri l led pusit, hinalabos na

hipon, l iempo and sinigang na

malaga.

While waiting for Ms. Gina Miranda

and Ms. Jenny to arrive, we l istened to

the band, which also plays songs

requested by customers. An hour

later, Ms. Gina and Ms. Jenny arrived

and were introduced to us.

We enjoyed the time chatting and

getting to know one another. The

opportunity comes only once in a

year and I, for one, look forward to

seeing them again in upcoming

company gatherings.

Great food, good music, a l ittle drink

and a company of friends is a recipe

for a fun-fi l led and enjoyable

Christmas Party!

Who said that summer can only be

spent and enjoyed during summer?

As long as the place is perfect – with

the bright sun , the white sand beach

and a huge, sparkl ing swimming pool ,

nonstop music, overflowing drinks,

flavorsome meals, fun games and

activities and lastly, with loud people

around - one’s summer wil l definitely

become one-of-a-kind! Here in CLFG,

employees experienced a perfect

summer outing at Canyon Cove Beach

Resort, Nasugbu, Batangas last July

14, 2012.

To make the outing even more

exciting, the CEFFI Committee,

spearheaded by Ms. Charm Cadano,

prepared four teambuilding activities:

First is "Command and Conquer,"

which aimed to strengthen teamwork

and leadership. Second is "Polo

Game" which intended to ignite

strong coordination.

Last two games were "Knock-Down

the Bucket" and "Ping-Pong Race"

which were both meant to enhance

agil ity and concentration . Both

winners and non-winners received

prizes from the committee.

Majority of the employees spent their

free time on taking photos, sight-

seeing and swimming in both the

pool and the beach. Only a few stayed

in the tent to enjoy chit-chats and

the beautiful scenery.

It rained! A few but loud thunders

were heard during the afternoon.

However, instead of cutting short the

fun, almost al l employees went out

and enjoyed the heavy rain. Even the

guys in Parañaque splashed into the

pool and enjoyed in the rain.

After the fun in the sun (and the fun

in the rain), CLFG employees took

some spur-of-the-moment shots

before bidding the beach resort

farewel l . The place surely gave good

memories (and even, funny moments)

to everyone.

The experience provided everybody

the chance to relax and enjoy on the

beach in the middle of the year.

CLFG is not just solely after meeting

target or satisfying cl ients. It also aims

to develop its employees’

camaraderie and sportsmanship to

build harmonious relationships

between management and

accomplished through the Bowling

Superbowl Bil l iards and Bowling

Center, Makati Cinema Square.

The players were CLFG employees

from Makati and Parañaque, who

were grouped into 10 teams prior to

the tournament. The team names,

which were derived from CLFG

Niaux, Pentair, Aqua Care, Hanmi,

Warrior, John Deere and Sta-rite. The

which was led by yours truly, then

welcoming remarks from the

Tournament Commissioner, Mr.

Ritchie Coseng.

The true heat of the tournament

started when the emcees, Norgene

Ramos and Karen Lagang introduced

the teams one-by-one for picture-

taking and presentation of their cheer.

This was fol lowed by Oath of

Sportsmanship led by Limwel Ramos

and Ceremonial Bowl done by last

tournament’s top scorers, Ms. Jelyn

Aguilar and Mr. Josel ito Habul in .

After the 10-minute Shadow Bowling,

the el imination round began. The four

semi-finals are Niaux, Warrior, Prince

and Sta-rite, which were headed by

team leaders Ms. Charmaine May O.

Cadano, Mr. Alex Tolentino, Mr.

Ronald Lopez and Ms. Bernadeth

Nabor, respectively. Semi-final ists had

a close fight but Sta-rite won against

This year’s 2012 Planning Session of

the company was not just a simple

meeting – it was also a celebration of

the company’s 20th year anniversary.

Branch Heads from La Union/Baguio,

Dagupan (Pangasinan), Tarlac and

Davao came to Makati on January 24

to 26 not only to present their 2012

Targets but also to celebrate this

milestone.

The three-day stay started off with a

recap of the previous year’s actual

performance. Among the attendees

were CLF, MFB, RFC, Mr. Raymond

Paloma, Ms. Diane Casti l lo and

Active’s Branch Heads – Ms. Gina

Miranda (Tarlac), Mr. Cris Tamayo

Union and Baguio) and Ms. Sheryl l

Aquino (Dagupan). After the recap,

the 2012 Outlook and Presentation of

CLFG’s newest company, CLFG Capital

Corp. was introduced by Ms. Casti l lo.

Next to it was RFC’s presentation of

Active Finance in 2011 fol lowed by

the Branch Heads' reports.

The second day was fi l led with fresh

information as Ms. Clarence De Dios

gave the Branch Heads an update

regarding Personnel Pol icies and as

yours truly presented a Marketing

Seminar entitle "Back to Basics." The

seminar’s objective was to assist each

Branch Head in developing a concrete

action plan in support of their

Active Finance @ 2012 – Celebrating 20 Years ofInnovation and Excellence by Joanna Almoneda

The mid-year review with the theme,

“Turning Vision into Action” was held

on July 26-28, 2012 at CLFG Bldg.

Training Room. Branch Heads from La

Union/Baguio, Dagupan (Pangasinan),

Tarlac and Davao returned after six

months to give updates on their

performances.

The first day started off with a

seminar entitled, “The 6 Thinking Hats

– How to Think Your Way to Success."

Attendees were RFC, MFB, Active’s

Branch Heads, COC (RCMU Unit

Head), Ms. Cherie Mae Oliveros

(Active Finance-Makati Marketing

Assistant) and Kathleen Labaguis

(AIMCON Travel-Marketing Officer).

The seminar was not just an ordinary

presentation since I required the

attendees to “proactively” participate

in our discussion. I asked them first if

the topic was famil iar. I then

explained that the 6 Thinking Hats is a

Thinking Tool used to look at

decisions from a number of important

perspectives. The seminar aimed to

encourage participants to have a

paral lel thinking – to explore al l sides

of an issue at the same time in

decision-making. At the end of the

presentation, the Branch Heads were

given a chal lenge, which was to visit

Shopwise and observe the shoppers,

customer service, marketing materials,

grocery layout and product display.

They were grouped into two – Sheryl l

and Cris, Dominique and Gina.

Presentations were advised to be

discussed on the last day of the mid-

year review.

Next day, the Branch Heads

discussed updates on the actual

performances of their respective

branch before the BOD and RFC.

On the final day, the Branch Heads

discussed their consol idated

observations and recommendations

regarding the Shopwise Chal lenge

before MFB and RFC. At the end of

the discussion, each branch head

shared their insights and lessons

learned from the whole mid-year

review.

hypothetical new product of CLFG.

After the groups finished their

feasibil ity studies, the speakers

evaluated each work not only to help

the groups further improve their

With the hazards and setbacks posed by the necessity for

manual labor during sugar harvesting, the need to develop

a technology that wil l compensate manual labor and at the

same time improve the efficiency and qual ity of the

harvested sugarcane stalks is great. Thus, John Deere

revolutionized heavy equipment that wil l answer this need

in the most comprehensive way.

In a technical seminar held at Sheraton Hotels & Resort

and Site, Pattaya, Thailand last October 10 to 12, 2011, I

was able to take part in examining and understanding the

operation, features, functions, hydraul ics symbol , electrical

symbol and maintenance of Sugarcane Harvester 3520.

This is John Deere’s new technology of mechanizing

sugarcane harvest to ensure efficient and qual ity sizing of

sugarcane stalks during harvest period.

The training program was

divided into two major

activities. On Days 1-2, the

participants were immersed

in a lecture presentation. On

the first day of the training,

the program started with

the safety overview of the

Sugarcane Harvester 3520

as wel l as the field and harvester preparation. Later in the

day, the operation, feature and other functions of the

harvester were discussed as wel l as the details of the float

crop divider.

On the second day, we were lectured in detail on cab

controls, harvester adjustments, and fluid capacities of the

equipment. An orientation on the basic hydraul ic and

electrical symbols of the harvester was done in the

afternoon including the electrical harness and connector

locations as wel l as the topper function. Crop divider

function, front rol ler function and final ly the base cutter

function was discussed during the third day. On the final

day of the training, we went to the harvester machine site

to discuss the cool ing fan function and engine training.

The activity concluded with a service advisor training and

summary and course evaluation. Final ly on the fourth day,

the participants were asked to engage in an on-site

discussion and observation of the actual Sugarcane

harvester equipment.

Needless to say, the training experience was not only

educational but also inspiring as we are moving forward

and mechanizing our agricultural practices towards a

future that wil l improve the qual ity of our crops as wel l as

the l ives of sugarcane farmers.

Do you often misplace things? Do you

always forget important and minor

details? Do you encounter difficulties

in searching for things whether at

home or at work? If you answered yes

to one or more of these questions,

then you are positive of being

forgetful – or scientifical ly speaking,

you have a poor memory. Your body

is considerably not functioning wel l

and same goes with your brain. But,

do not be anxious because being

forgetful is not a helpless state. To

maximize and improve your abil ity to

process and recal l information, here

are some helpful tips and reminders:

Tip #1: Have adequate exercise and

sleep. Good memory is the “whole

shooting match” of a healthy brain

and body. To achieve this, you should

exercise and have an eight-hour sleep

every day. For instance, doing short

walks to nearby places is already a

form of exercise. This leads to an

increase of oxygen to your brain at

the same time, reduces the risk of

having memory loss, diabetes and

cardiovascular diseases. Having an

eight-hour sleep is also important.

Your brain would not function wel l if

you did not have adequate sleep.

Moreover, various researches had

shown that sleep is very important for

memory consol idation. So, if you do

not want to compromise your

creativity, problem-solving abil ities

and critical thinking skil ls, better have

an eight-hour sleep!

Tip #2: Make sure to have time for

friends and fun. Do you think that

having a social l ife has nothing to do

with improving the memory? Wel l ,

you are absolutely wrong! For your

information, there had been countless

studies which had proven that having

time with friends and fun comes with

cognitive benefits. We humans are

highly social animals. We often say

that, “no man is an island.” That is

why social interaction is considerably

the best kind of brain exercise one

can have. So, what are you waiting

for? Spend time with your family or

cal l and meet your friends. Or you can

even walk your dog (if you have one).

Tip #3: Be cautious with your stress

levels. As much as we want to, we

cannot just simply remove stress out

of our l ives. However, we have the

power to tame it down. Relax, take a

break and try to meditate. In fact,

scientific evidence had shown that

meditation helps improve focus,

concentration, creativity, learning and

reasoning skil ls. So, when you start to

feel the pressure of heavy workloads,

pause for a moment and meditate.

Tip #4: Have a daily dose of brain-

boosting foods. Fil l up your body

with foods rich in Omega-3 such as

fish, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and

soybeans; foods with antioxidants

such as fruits and vegetables

(preferably the green leafy ones l ike

spinach, broccol i , and lettuce); and

foods rich in carbohydrates l ike brown

rice, whole-wheat bread, oatmeal ,

high-fiber cereal , and beans.

Tip #5: Work out those brain cells.

Are you famil iar with mnemonic

devices? If not, then you might be

sleeping during your Psychology

class. Mnemonic devices are clues of

any kind that help us remember

something, usual ly by helping us

associate the information we want to

recal l or remember with a visual

image, a sentence, or a word.

Mnemonic devices are as fol lows:

visual image, acronym, chunking, and

method of loci. For more details,

please visit www.helpguide.org/

l ife/improving_memory.htm

Aside from these tips, simple

reminders such as paying attention,

involving as many senses as possible,

relating information to what you

already know, understanding basic

ideas rather than memorizing isolated

details, and rehearsing information

you have already learned, wil l also

help you enhance the abil ity to learn

and remember effectively and

efficiently. Wel l , I hope that these tips

and reminders wil l be of help.
