Angie Welikala ’99 exudes passion and gratitude in all she does, each and every day. She takes nothing for granted. As a breast cancer survivor, she believes every minute of every day is a gift from God. It is with that enthusiasm for life that she treats her patients at Welikala Wellness Cen- ter in Moorpark, Calif., the second practice she has owned since gradu- ating from Cleveland- LA 14 years ago. Welikala’s practice, a “full wellness” center, opened in May 2012. It provides chiropractic care, massage, nutrition, personal training and yoga/stretch classes. It is also a “God-centered” practice, focusing on her vision and purpose “to love and encourage as many people as possible to live the health-filled life God intended.” “After going through breast cancer, being in a place where I was fighting for my life, I came out of it with different priorities,” Welikala said. “I’m focusing on what God’s plans are for my life now, and not my own.” In turning a “health crisis into a health opportunity,” as she puts it, Welikala is driven to share her experience with patients and as many others as possible. To that end, she has written and released her first book titled “Redeem Your Health: 21-Day Cleanse & Detox Jumpstart.” The inspirational book strives to give readers who are facing a health challenge, new illness or diagnosis a plan to help reclaim their health. “My philosophy is that the power that made the body, heals the body,” Welikala said. “The goal with the book is to help people end the crazy cycle of not taking care of their health and actually prevent illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, fibromyalgia and even cancer. I’m a walking testimony for what your body can do given the right nutrition.” Welikala is currently working on her second book titled, “Made to Heal,” which shares her journey through resolving breast cancer by seeking out natural channels to health. “Nutrition, clean- sing and other natural treatments were key elements for me in allowing my body to heal from breast cancer,” Welikala said. “These were all things my ‘doctor’ never mentioned.” With all of this in mind, Welikala has created a practice committed to mirroring the wellness wheel with a focus on physical, emotional and spiritual health. She encourages her patients to make their health a priority. “You can adjust your patients until the cows come home, but if they’re not taking care of themselves they’re not going to get the results they desire,” Welikala said. “I want to help every patient live a more balanced, stress-free life.” When not helping patients, Welikala serves as a motivational speaker. Hello again, everyone. I wanted to bring you up to date on what has been happening at our College since our last

visit. Dr. Cleveland and I have continued to hit the road visiting with our alumni. I was in Tulsa, Okla., on April 12, where the College hosted a luncheon at the Unified Chiropractic Association of Oklahoma’s spring seminar. I had a great time catching up with

several of our alums. I was in Wichita, Kan., on April 27, hosting a social hour for our alums attending the KCA’s spring event and enjoyed seeing many friends there!

Dr. Cleveland was also in Tulsa on April 20, where he spoke to the Oklahoma Chiropractic Association, and he was in Phoenix April 27, hosting a lunch for local alums. We would love to host a lunch at your event — just let us know when and where.

April 19 was a special day for 38 of our students as we joined them in their Commencement ceremony. They now begin their exciting journey into our great profession. Who do you know that would be a great chiropractor? We would love to educate and train as many great future chiropractors as you can send us! Contact Admissions for additional information.

In other news, the College was busy April 1-4 as we hosted a team from the Council of Chiropractic Education (CCE) for a scheduled site visit as part of the reaccreditation process. There was a lot of hard work in preparation for the visit, and I am sure the effort will result in a positive outcome.

Another new development is the College’s move to electronic health records for the 2014 transition. We are currently in the development phase with a “go live” date projected for Fall 2013.

Be sure to save the following dates for two special events. On Oct. 11-13, the College will hold its annual Homecoming event. Once again, we will be partnering with the KCA. We are planning a very special weekend. Another exciting event is set for Feb. 28-March 2, 2014, when the Alumni Association will sponsor 12 hours of continuing education in Las Vegas! This will be a fun-filled weekend with the opportunity for alumni from both the LA and KC campuses to enjoy Vegas, while receiving CEU credits.

Please remember to let us know what is going on in your lives and practices, so we can share it with all of our colleagues. Until next time, be safe and be well! q

Dr. Welikala inspires health Dr. Angie Welikala ’99 exudes passion and

gratitude in all she does, each and every day. She takes nothing for granted. As a breast cancer survivor, she believes every minute of every day is a gift from God. It is with that enthusiasm for life that she treats her patients at Welikala Wellness Cen-ter in Moorpark, Calif., the second practice she has owned since gradu-ating from Cleveland-LA 14 years ago.

Welikala’s practice, a “full wellness” center, opened in May 2012.It provides chiropractic care, massage, nutrition, personal training and yoga/stretch classes. It is also a “God-centered” practice, focusing on her vision and purpose “to love and encourage as many people as possible to live the health-filled life God intended.”

“After going through breast cancer, being in a place where I was fighting for my life, I came out of it with different priorities,” Welikala said. “I’m focusing on what God’s plans are for my life now, and not my own.”

In turning a “health crisis into a health opportunity,” as she puts it, Welikala is driven to share her experience with patients and as many others as possible.

“The goal with the book is to help people end the crazy

cycle of not taking care of their health and actually prevent illnesses like diabetes, hypertension, fibromyalgia and even cancer. I’m a walking testimony for what your body can do given the

right nutrition.”Welikala is currently

working on her second book titled, “Made to Heal,” which shares her journey through resolving breast cancer by seeking out natural channels to health.

“Nutrition, clean-sing and other natural treatments were key elements for me in allowing my body to heal from breast cancer,” Welikala said. “These

were all things my ‘doctor’ never mentioned.”With all of this in mind, Welikala has created

a practice committed to mirroring the wellness wheel with a focus on physical, emotional and spiritual health. She encourages her patients to make their health a priority.

“You can adjust your patients until the cows come home, but if they’re not taking care of themselves they’re not going to get the results they desire,” Welikala said. “I want to help every patient live a more balanced, stress-free life.”

When not helping patients, Welikala serves as a motivational speaker. She employs a unique platform that intertwines health and spirituality. She also loves to read, write and spend time with her husband, Dr. Mac, a dentist, and her 10-year-old son, Michael.

Welikala’s practice is located at 45 W. Los Angeles Ave. in Moorpark. Visit drangiew.com to learn more about her mission or to acquire a free Quick Start Guide. q
