Its Showtime! Roll up! Roll up to the Clermont Show!

Its showtime! Finalise your fine arts, polish your pumpkins, bake some biscuits, fertilize your ferns, organise your oranges or play music to your mandarins! But most important of all, check the Pavilion Schedule or the Events Schedule in the Clermont Rag, so your entries are in on time.

Adding to show excitement, the spectacular main arena performance of Rooftop Express is an event not to be missed. Highly trained horses and farm animals perform world-first stunts and clever tricks both on the ground and on a truck roof. The first performance at approximately 7pm on Tuesday night, will be followed be the Fireworks Extravaganza and live entertainment. The final performance of Rooftop Express will be on Wednesday following the Grand Parade.

One of the all-time show favourites, Old Macdonalds Travelling Farm returns to provide the children of the Isaac Region with an enjoyable, interactive animal experience: bottle and hand feeding,

observing, feeling and brushing their farm friends.

Children love to see animals at the show, so we have arranged for this mini farm to visit again this year, advised Show President, Scott Moller. As well as keeping children entertained for hours, Old Macdonalds Farm provides a unique educational experience for the young ones in our region, under the cover of UV shade.

Noahs Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, another popular show attraction continues with its dual role at the 2015 Clermont Show. Exciting crowd entertainment combined with an opportunity to raise funds for worthy causes in the community, make the pig races a not to be missed event. Over the last six years, more than $5,000 has been donated to needy local groups. Watch for the showgirl entrants, April, Casey and Cheyanne, who will be selling tickets on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

No visit to the show would be complete without a ride or two in Sideshow Alley. To help ease the financial burden on families, discount tickets are available. Buy $30 ticket value for only $25. This special deal is for pre-purchase tickets only which are available until Monday May 25 at Portal Entertainment or email [email protected] It is not possible to use these tickets to purchase show bags.

Gate entry prices for the Clermont Show have not changed for many years. The Clermont Show Committee encourages you and your family to visit the show and experience the huge array of local produce and exceptional talent on display. Enjoy the show spectacles for one day or two. The gate price is the same: $5 per adult, $3 High school students and pensioners, free for children under 12.

Visitors who attend on Tuesday may keep their ticket for free entry on Wednesday, the show Public Holiday.

  • Clermont Show-The Isaac Regions Show May 25 27Every year, Clermont Show The Isaac Regions Show provides an opportunity for the community to display the regions best: from photography to floral displays, schoolwork to show bags, giant pumpkins to grain young judging, fireworks to fat cattle, woodchop to working dogs, trade displays to taste testing beef, caged birds to cooking, six-bar jumping to sideshow alley, there is something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

After a spectacular night of Six-Bar Show Jumping, Rooftop Express, Fireworks Extravaganza and Live Entertainment until midnight, an action packed show Wednesday starts at 7:30am with Show Jumping, Hacks

and Rider Classes in centre ring.

The Stud Beef Young Judges Competition has an 8am start, then Woodchopping events begin at 9am. Beef Cattle Young Judges are scheduled to commence at 11am.

To encourage families to stay a little longer at their local show, a full afternoon of events has been programmed after the 1pm Grand Parade and major Hack and Giant Pumpkin presentations, Rooftop Express presents a final awe-inspiring performance, followed by the Young Farmers Challenge at 2pm in centre ring and State of Origin Woodchop at 3pm.

The final event of the show is the inaugural Belyando Bull Bonanza, with a Helmsman auction taking place for about 30 commercial bulls in the annex of the main bar.

Driven by the high demand for well-bred bulls with superior genetics, the multi-vendor sale will offer Brahman, Angus, Charolais, Santa Gertrudis, South Devon composites and Gelbvieh bulls.

Monash Lodge granted new busOver the next few months, something different will be seen around the streets of Clermont. Monash Lodge have been granted a new bus.

This has been made possible by a grant of around $32,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to the Monash Lodge Inc Committee that owns and operates the bus.

The old bus has done great service but it is now fifteen years old and has developed a few idiosyncrasies. A vehicle transporting the aged and frail must, of course, be totally reliable in every aspect.

As well, the new bus will have a more flexible seating configuration. It will be no bigger than the present one. The new bus is as large as possible without needing a special bus licence to drive it.

Another feature is that the wheel chair anchor points can be altered. This will allow any combination of seating between 3 wheel chairs, 1 passenger and the driver, to 8 passengers and the driver.

This flexibility is very important as the bus is used in a variety of situations.

Monash Lodge Inc President, Christine Marteene, said they are particularly delighted to be improving the service. As there is no taxi service in Clermont, the frail wheel chair bound cannot be moved anywhere without a reliable and properly fitted out bus.

This also applies to the general community, not just to residents of Monash Lodge.

The bus is available to anyone in the community who demonstrates a need.

For instance, if a family is visited by a disabled member, the bus is available for the visitor and the family during the visit to collect them from the plane etc. Alternatively, if the family visit a disabled local resident, the bus is available for outings and drives. Both these situations have occurred, particularly around Christmas. Monash Lodge Inc is happy to provide this service.

Of course $32,000 is only part of the cost in purchasing a new bus. The total quote is $75,000 for the new bus, fully fitted with seats and hydraulic ramps etc.

With the sale of the old bus and some promised support the short fall is around $30,000 and Mrs Marteene says the committee are hopeful that the community will repeat their usual wonderful support for Monash Lodge by helping out.

The committee intends acknowledging sponsors over $5,000 by signage on the new bus.

For further details contact Christine Marteene on 49832010 or [email protected]

Fabulous Showgirl entrantsDressing in fifties-inspired outfits, and surrounded by a fabulous fifties theme, guests at the Fab, Flirty and Fifties High Tea were greeted with a glass of bubbly or homemade lemonade. Delicious savoury and sweet indulgences and an interesting selection of organic speciality teas were beautifully served by the three showgirl entrants, Casey Clarke, April Roth, and Cheyanne Sondergeld and their smiling little assistants.

Clermont Show The Isaac Regions Show is proud to announce April Roth as the 2015 Senior Miss Showgirl and Casey Clarke, the Senior Miss Showgirl Runner-up. Cheyanne Sondergeld is the Junior Miss Showgirl.

April said, I wasnt really sure what to expect today. It has been a great experience and I will be recommending the Showgirl Competition to others and encouraging them to be involved next year. Im from down south and my parents have made the long trip to be with me today. Thank you very much to them for their support and to everyone who has come along to this event.

Showgirl Steward and High Tea organizer, Marricka Clancy, thanked the three entrants for being part of one of the special competitions in the Show youth movement.

Thank you very much to all three entrants this year. It has been a privilege to be the steward for such a small, but fantastic group of young ladies, said Marricka.

Thank you also to the judges, Dr Hany, Principal Dentist Dental CareXtra, Moranbah, Mrs Carolyn Flohr Clermont News business owner, and Savannah Spackman, Central Highlands Miss Showgirl Runner-Up 2014.

Marricka also recognised the support of the Clermont, Moranbah and Alpha communities for supporting the showgirl entrants by attending the High Tea. She also thanked the young, enthusiastic tea service assistants, Larissa Cook, Ellie Howard, Robyn Leigh van Zyl, Lucy Appleton, Chloe Martin and Scarlett Cook, all students from the local schools and her co-helpers, Ria Garside and Erin Marteene, who were both entrants in the Showgirl competition in 2014. In her thank you speech, Marricka encouraged the past and present Showgirl Entrants and tea service students to continue volunteering in their local community. She hopes that their positive experience at the High Tea will give them the confidence and motivation to continue to volunteer and to stay involved in their local show.

The Show Committee would like to thank the 2015 Miss Showgirl sponsors: Clermont Amcal Pharmacy, Clermont Motor Inn, JDS Hair Affair, Crokers Fuels & Oils, Ornabellas, Bluemac Bakehouse, Belyando Furniture Supplies, Moranbah Pharmacy, Priceline Pharmacy Moranbah, A Little Pidgeon, Joanne Salmond, Marricka Clancy, Mr and Mrs I & M Clancy and Caitlyn McPherson.

Mayors Charity Ball to break silence about violence with White Ribbon fundraiser Mark your calendar for Mayor Anne Bakers Charity Ball, a stylish black tie event being held for the first time under the night sky in Moranbah Town Square on Saturday, October 31.

This year the Charity Ball will help raise awareness and much needed funds to support White Ribbon Australias work to end mens violence against women, Mayor Baker said.

All funds raised will support primary prevention initiatives in schools, workplaces and the broader community.

Violence against women is at epidemic proportions. Devastatingly, over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week in Australia as a result of intimate partner violence, Mayor Baker said.

And the women lost are not just statistics they are wives, mothers, daughters, grand-daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, friends and colleagues.

I am proud the Mayors Charity Ball will help break the silence around violence, to raise awareness of the issue as well as funds to support work to bring violence against women to an end.

Violence against women is unacceptable, its never the victims fault, help is always available and if you see something you should definitely speak up.

People need to know that they can make a difference; bringing an end to mens violence against women will take a whole of community approach.

Mayor Anne Bakers first Charity Ball last year was an outstanding success, raising more than $40,000 for beyondblue.

As well as adding a new layer of sparkle under the stars, the move outdoors will allow for more people to attend the popular evening.

Last year the Charity Ball originally catered for 250 people and tickets sold within an hour of going on sale. This year the new venue and ticket numbers will allow for a crowd of 300.

Mayor Anne Bakers Charity Ball will be a stylish black tie event being held for the first time under the night sky in Moranbah Town Square on Saturday, October 31.

Friday morning from 9.30am to 10.30 am author Robin Adolphs will join Storytime at the Clermont Library.

Saturday morning Clermont Golf Club are holding a Community golf day. Hit off 10.30am and everyone is welcome.

Drought Angels Gala Auction is being held from 6pm on Saturday evening at the Commercial Hotel. Tickets will be available at the door.

PART 2: More Than Physical ActivitySmoking

There are so many great reasons to stop (or never start) smoking. When smokers kick the habit, they experience huge benefits almost immediately. For instance did you know that within 24 hours of quitting your risk of heart attack decreases? Or that the coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath associated with smoking decreases in as little as 1 month? For more good news about quitting, check out Quits Quit Smoking Timeline:http://www.quittingsmokingtimeline.com/quitsmokingtimeline.asp

There is a wealth of resources and programs available to smokers who want to quit. Talk to your General Practitioner about quitting, theyll be able to discuss options such as nicotine replacement therapy with you as well as other pharmaceutical treatments.

The Queensland Government has provided some great online resources which are available from:http://www.health.qld.gov.au/quitsmoking/

Weekly Challenge: Set your GoalsSetting goals is very important for any type of change that you are going to make in your life, whether it be weight loss, improved lifestyle or to quit smoking .

When setting your goals, it is SO important to plan out how you are going to achieve them (not just what your goals are).

Plan in 12 month, 6 month, 3 month and even 1 month blocks and dont forget - your goals should be S.M.A.R.T:

Specific: What exactly is your goal? To feel healthy is not specific. To Lose 2kg in a month is specific. For smoking it might be to cut down the number of cigarettes you have in a day by one each 2 days for 2 weeks, and to call the Quit line.

Measureable: Make sure you can measure and track your improvements along the way. For example you might have body shape measurements such as weight and blood pressure, or performance measurements such as running 4km without stopping.

Achievable: Is it actually possible to achieve your goal? In your heart you need to believe that you can actually get there.

Realistic: This is one notch higher than achievable. It might be possible for you to run a marathon (with the right amount of training) but is it realistic given your lifestyle and other demands on your time?

Time Based: You need to set your goals against a timeframe.

Remember to tie your goals to a reward, e.g. a holiday or shopping spree. Something to add some spice to your motivation!

    The inagural Belyando Bull Bonanza

    More than physcial activity

For the first time at the Clermont Show The Isaac Regions Show, commercial beef producers have the opportunity to purchase some of the best bulls of the Isaac Region. With increasing numbers of commercial bulls entered in the show each year and the high demand for well-bred sires with superior genetics, the Beef Cattle Committee and local agents have been able to offer for sale, a selection of quality bulls at the 2015 Clermont Show.

The Belyando Bull Bonanza, a multi-vendor sale, will present bulls of show quality selected from the Commercial Cattle Section Class 1 Pen of 3 Bulls. Over 30 bulls of various breeds will be on offer, comprising Brahman, Angus, Charolais, Santa Gertrudis, South Devon composites and Gelbvieh. The Helmsman auction commences at 3pm on Wednesday, 27th May 2015 at the Main Bar Annex - Clermont Showgrounds, immediately following the first for Clermont Show, the Young Farmers Challenge in Centre Ring and the State of Origin Woodchop event.

After you have inspected the sale bulls and selected those you wish to bid on, appreciate the hospitality of the Price family of Moongool Charolais at the Main Bar annexe.

For your enjoyment pre-sale drinks and savouries will be provided from 2.45pm. For more information please contact: Cattle Committee Secretary, Fiona James: 49 831 388 [email protected] Livestock: 07 4983 1011; Elders: 07 4983 1388; Hoch & Wilkinson: 07 4983 1555

    Health Matters

Domestic and Family Violence Prevention MonthDomestic and Family Violence Prevention Month is held during May each year to raise community awareness and send a clear message that domestic and family violence will not be tolerated.

The key aims of the month are to:

raise community awareness of domestic and family violence and its effects

promote a clear message of no tolerance of domestic and family violence in Queensland communities

ensure those who are experiencing domestic and family violence know how to access help and support

encourage people who use abuse and/or violence to take responsibility for their abusive behaviour and seek support to change.

What is domestic and family violence?

Domestic and family violence happens when one person in a relationship uses violence or abuse to control the other person. Domestic and family violence is usually an ongoing pattern of behaviour aimed at controlling a partner through fear.

Regardless of whether you are a young person or an older person, whether you have been in your relationship for many years or just a short time, its important to evaluate whether your relationship continues to be safe and respectful.

    You have the right to:

express your opinions and have them respected (even if your partner does not agree with you)

take the relationship at your own pace

have your feelings about any sexual activities respected and accepted

have your physical and emotional needs treated as equally important to your partner not be abused.

Abuse can happen in many ways other than physical violence, such as emotional, verbal, social , sexual or financial abuse, stalking or harassment, property or possession damage, or by depriving you of the necessities of life such as food, shelter and medical care.

Abusive behaviour can also be threats, including threats to hurt you, your children, pets, relatives, friends or work colleagues, intimidation, or the withdrawal of care for a dependant. Occasionally abusers will harm themselves as a way to control people.

Signs of domestic and family violence. Someone experiencing domestic and family violence may

seem afraid of someone close to them

try to hide bruises (eg. by wearing long sleeves in summer months, or give unlikely explanations for injuries)

have little or no say about how money is spent

stop seeing friends and family and become isolated

become depressed, unusually quiet or lose confidence

show signs of neglect if they are older or have a disability

have a partner who frequently accuses them of cheating or

    continually checks up on them

be reluctant to leave their children with their partner

suspect they are being stalked or followed.

    What to do

Most importantly your friend or family member needs your support. Even if there is not any immediate change, your support may help them to consider their options and ultimately ensure their safety.

Class DescriptionGut and Butt Blastis a target class that focuses on strengthening and toning the nine core divisions of the abdominal plane.

While simultaneously blasting the three muscles of the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. This will increase fat metabolism at rest and help slim and tone those problematic areas. Although not targeted, general whole body conditioning applies and while challenging, is more than suitable for any fitness level.

Workout Of the Day (WOD)This is a board based program, working along the principles of H.I.I.T where you are able to come in and complete the workout in your own time.

What is H.I.I.T?High-intensity interval training is a training technique, which commands full effort through quick, intense bursts of exercise followed by active recovery periods. This form of exercise uses power and cardio, keeping the heart rate high and metabolizing fat at the same time.

Open GymThis is your opportunity to use the Gym facilities, there will be a basic weights program and WOD on offer for your utilisation, or you could just be creative and do your own training.

Lets LiftThis program has been designed to target the eight large muscle groups in a 45 minute whole body workout. This is achieved through the use of barbell and Dumbbell weights. This class is suitable for every fitness level.

Mad GRITThis is a 30min program incorporating core, strength and cardio based exercise, ideal for total fitness development.
