4.1 Keycard Entry to Pre-Entry Room

4.2 Step on Tack Mat

Take at least 4 steps on the tacky mat, 2 for each foot.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.3 Clean Shoes in Shoe Cleaner

1. Place foot in shoe cleaner.

2. Press and hold button on top of post to turn on shoe cleaner.

3. Move shoe back and forth in shoe cleaner for at least 7 seconds.

4. Release button.

5. Remove foot when shoe cleaner stops.

6. Repeat with other foot.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.4 Put on Shoe Covers

1. Get a pair of shoe covers from the labeled dispenser bin on the far left.

2. Find a comfortable position, either standing or sitting on the bench.

3. Place the shoe cover completely over the sole and sides of the shoe.

4. Repeat with the other shoe.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.5 Put on Face Mask or Beard Cover

1. Face masks are preferred.

2. Get either a face mask or beard cover from the labeled dispenser bin.

3. Face mask: blue side in, metal nose strip up, place the elastic loops around the ears

or use the enclosed hook tab, and form the metal tab around the bridge of the nose.

4. Beard cover: place the elastic band around the back of your head.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.6 Put on Bouffant Cap

1. Get a bouffant cap from the labeled dispenser bin.

2. Place on your head below the ears and to the base of the neck to contain all hair.

3. Tuck in any stray hair.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.7 Put on Gloves

NOTE: Touch ONLY the cuffs of the gloves. Do NOT touch the palms or fingers of the gloves with bare hands. Oils and particulates from your skin adhere to the gloves and subsequently contaminate everything you touch.

1. Get a pair of gloves from one of the labeled dispenser bins.

2. Pull on the first glove holding it only by the cuff.

3. Pull on the second glove making sure that the first glove does not touch your skin.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.8 Clean Protective Eyewear, Swipe Card, and MaterialsNOTE: Some materials may be damaged by isopropyl alcohol, so you may need to use DI water instead from the squeeze bottle provided.

1. Get protective eyewear, either goggles or safety glasses, from the dispenser.

2. Moisten a cleanroom wipe with isopropyl alcohol or get a pre-moistened wipe.

3. Wipe all surfaces of materials you will be bringing into the cleanroom.

4. Wipe the length of the wiper cloth and then fold over.

5. Repeat folding and get new wipes as necessary.


ALL wipes with ANY amount of isopropyl alcohol MUST be disposed of in the red flammables waste can to contain the fire hazard.

4.9 Dispose of IPA Wipes in Red Flammables Can

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.10 Enter Gowning Room and Step on Tack Mat

NOTE: DO NOT enter through the swinging door on the other side of the cleanroom because this is an exit only.

1. Press the black button on the right side to open the Gowning Room sliding door.

2. Take at least 4 steps on the tack mat, 2 for each foot.


4.11 Put on Hood

1. Align the hood so that your face will be at the opening.

2. Pull the hood over your head.

3. If necessary, secure the snaps at the top and sides to provide a snug fit.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.12 Put on Coveralls

NOTE: DO NOT let your coveralls touch the floor because contamination from the floor will then be brought into the cleanroom on your coveralls.

1. Hold the sleeves and zipper so that the coveralls do not touch the floor.

2. Find a comfortable sitting or standing position. Sitting recommended.

3. Put one leg in the leg of the coveralls and pull up to your ankle.


4. Put your other leg in the leg of the coveralls and pull up to your ankle.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol5. Stand and pull the upper half of the coveralls up to

your arms.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol6. Put your arms through the sleeves

7. Pull the coveralls up over your shoulders.

8. Pull the zipper up halfway.


1. Tuck the front and rear flaps of the hood under the coveralls.

2. Pull up the zipper of your coveralls all the way.

3. Secure the snap on the collar of your coveralls.

4.13 Tuck in Hood


4.14 Thumbs in Thumb Loops

Put your thumbs through the thumb loops attached to the cuffs.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.15 Put on First BootNOTE: DO NOT place your boots on the floor because contamination from the floor will get on the sides of the boots and be carried into the cleanroom. NEVER stand in boots on the gowning rack side of the benches. Note that boots fit either foot.

1. Get your boots and put them on the bench.

2. Find a comfortable position sitting or standing (sitting recommended).

3. Pull a boot onto the foot that is toward the cleanroom side of the benches.

4. Swing your foot onto the bench.


4.15 Put on First Boot (cont)

5. Pull over the coveralls leg until your foot is snugly in the bottom of the boot.

6. OPTIONAL: Secure the buckle and tighten the strap across the top of your foot.

7. Place your booted foot on the cleanroom side of the floor.

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.16 Put on Second Boot

1. Continuing from the first boot step, pull a boot onto your second foot.

2. Swing your foot onto the bench.

3. Pull over the coveralls leg until your foot is snugly in the bottom of the boot.

4. OPTIONAL: Secure the buckle and tighten the strap across the top of your foot.

5. Place your booted foot on the cleanroom side of the floor.

Cleanroom Entry ProtocolNOTE: Properly securing your boots will prevent tripping accidents and the release of particulate from inside your boots.

4.17 Secure Boots

1. Secure the buckle and tighten the strap across the top of your foot.

2. Secure the top of your boot to the appropriate snap on the back of the coverall leg.

3. Tighten the elastic band at the top of the boot with the snaps to provide a secure and comfortable fit.


4.18 Put on Protective Eyewear

Is your hood tucked in, front and back?

Cleanroom Entry Protocol4.20 Put on Second Pair of Gloves

NOTE: the palms and fingers of the second pair of gloves should not touch the first pair of gloves.

1. Get a pair of gloves from the bins below the mirror.

2. Pull on a glove holding it only by the cuff.

3. Pull the glove cuff up over the coverall cuff as far as it will go.

4. Repeat with the other hand.

5. If necessary, pull up the glove fingers for a snug, comfortable fit.

4.21 Swipe in to Lab

1. Swipe your card through the card reader.

2. Confirm that the card was read properly and enter information if necessary.

3. Clip your swipe card onto the pen tab on the chest of the coveralls.

NOTE: If you are working with materials that might stain or damage the garment, then you must wear protective garb over the garments.

Refer to instructions and photos below.1. Swipe your card through the card reader.2. Confirm that the card was read properly and enter information if

necessary.3. Put your card in a place where you will remember to take it with you.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.3 Release Boot Fasteners1. Unsnap the elastic band at the top of the boot.

2. Unsnap the top of your boot from the snap on the back of the coverall leg.

3. Release the buckle on the strap across the top of your foot.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.4 Remove First BootNOTE: DO NOT place your boots on the floor because contamination from the floor will get on the sides of the boots and be carried into the cleanroom. NEVER stand in boots on the gowning rack side of the benches.

1. Find a comfortable position sitting or standing (sitting recommended).

2. Swing your foot nearest the gowning rack side of the bench onto the bench.

3. Slide the boot off your foot.4. Place the boot on the bench where it

will not be knocked off onto the floor.

5. Swing your foot onto the garment rack side of the benches.

1. Swing your other foot onto the bench.

2. Slide the boot off your foot.

3. Place the boot on the bench where it will not be knocked off onto the floor.

4. Swing your foot onto the garment rack side of the benches.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.6 Remove Outer Gloves and Thumbs from Thumb Loops

1. Remove your outer pair of gloves and discard in the trash.

2. Pull the thumb loops over your thumbs.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.7 Remove Coveralls

NOTE: DO NOT let your coveralls touch the floor because contamination from the floor will then be brought into the cleanroom on your coveralls. Refer to instructions and the sequence of photos below.1.Find a comfortable

standing position.

2. Undo the collar snap.

3. Pull the zipper down.

4. Roll the coveralls off your shoulders.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5. Pull out your arms from the sleeves and hold the

sleeves and zipper so that the coveralls do not touch the floor.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol6. Roll the coveralls below your waist and hold the

sleeves and zipper so that the coveralls do not touch the floor.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol7. Sit down and remove one leg from the coveralls while

holding and gathering the coveralls so they do not touch the floor.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol8. Remove your other leg in from the coveralls while

holding and gathering the coveralls so they do not touch the floor.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.8 Soiled Garment?

1. Have you worn your garment for more than approximately 24 hours, been doing strenuous work, or gotten the garment soiled in some other way?

2. If no, then proceed to the next section.

3. If yes, then your garment should be laundered.

4. Place the coveralls and hood in the laundry bag marked “Coveralls and Hoods”.

5. Place the boots in the laundry bag marked “Boots Only”. Do not mix boots with coveralls and hoods.

6. Skip the following sections related to garment storage.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.9 Hang Up Coveralls

NOTE: The hangers CANNOT be removed from the garment rack. Avoid touching coveralls with your clothes or bare skin.

1. Hold the coveralls by the shoulders and lift them so they do not touch the floor.

2. Hang them on your assigned hanger identified by your nametag.

3. Close the zipper.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.10 Remove and Hang Up Hood

1. Unfasten any snaps used to secure your hood.

2. Pull the hood over your head.

3. Find the snaps on top of the hood and on the collar of the coveralls.

4. Secure the hood to the coveralls with one of these pairs of snaps.

5.11 Store Boots in Cubby

1. Place the soles of your boots together.

2. Roll the tops of the boots around the soles.

3. Place your boots in your labeled cubby in the bottom of the Garment Storage Shelves.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.12 Take Swipe Card, Protective Eyewear and Materials

Gather your swipe card, protective eyewear, and any materials you are taking out of the cleanroom.

Leave the Gowning Room ONLY through the swinging white door marked “EXIT”.

5.14 Return Protective Eyewear

Return protective eyewear to the appropriate dispenser.

Cleanroom Exit Protocol5.15 Remove Pre-Entry Garments

1. Go to the tack mat at the entrance to the Pre-Entry room.

2. If you are taking materials out of the cleanroom, then put them on the bench.

3. Remove bouffant cap and put in trash.

4. Remove face mask or beard cover and put in trash.

5. Remove shoe covers and put in trash.

6. Remove gloves and put in trash.

1. Gather any materials you are taking out.

2. Exit and make sure the door latches behind you.

3. See you next time.
