Clean install using the DVD

Clean install using the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD Use the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD that you purchased from the Microsoft website or a

retailer shop to update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. All your applications and files will

be deleted.

– Some data files used in Windows 8 are saved in the C:\Windows.old folder. You may

delete this folder to free up disk space.

– Make sure to back up important data to an external hard drive prior to the installation.

– Samsung Electronics does not sell or provide the DVD.

Clean install using the DVD – Insert the Windows 8.1 Setup DVD. Wait until it runs

automatically. If the DVD does not run automatically, double click setup.exe.

– Select Go online to install updates now (recommended) and press Next.

– Enter the product key included in the DVD and press Next.

– Read the End Users License Agreement. Check I agree and press Next.

– Select Nothing and start installing Windows 8.1.

– After the installation is completed and your system will be rebooted, follow the instructions displayed on the screen. Then log in to Windows 8.1.

– Download SW Update program and install necessary drivers and applications.

Windows 8.1 Update FAQ Q: The system rolls back to Windows 8 while updating to Windows 8.1.

A: Please run Windows Update and update applications and drivers to the latest versions before upgrading your system to Windows 8.1.

Q: Some programs don't run properly after Windows 8.1 update.

A: Please uninstall the problematic applications and then reinstall all them in Windows 8.1. For Samsung software, you can use SW

Q: I want to register a local user account instead of an Microsoft account.

A: The MS account issue occurs when you are connected to a network. By selecting the Skip this option text menu, you can create a

local user account.

Q: How can I check which device needs a Windows 8.1 driver?

A: Windows Key + X → Device Manager → Items with the exclamation point (a.k.a. Yellow bang)

Q: I don't have SW Update installed in my system.

A: Visit http://orcaservice.samsungmobile.com/SWUpdate.aspx to download the latest version of SW Update.

Q: I want to roll back to Windows 8.

A: Run the Charm bar. Select Settings → Change PC settings → Update and Recovery → Recovery → Remove everything and reinstall

Windows → Get Started → Next → Just remove my files → Reset.
