Company History

In 2009, when Shashi Menon and James Ramm founded EcoEngineers, their goal was to help the biofuel industry navigate the complexities of international energy regulations. 2009 was a watershed year for the biofuels industry. A sea change of regulations was being announced in the U.S. and around the world. These new regulations would revolutionize the way we fuel our vehicles and the value we place on the energy in natural and waste resources. These regulations laid the groundwork and created the context for an international biofuel community to grow and flourish.

The same regulations also created complex and ever-changing compliance requirements, which required carbon modeling and measurement, energy credit validations, and demonstrated quality control. Many in the industry found it challenging to keep up with all of the new regulations.

EcoEngineers was formed to bridge this gap and help the clean energy industry stay compliant with the changing regulations, improve their carbon footprint, and maximize revenues from the environmental aspects of their fuel. EcoEngineers made a promise to deliver the following:

Easy Compliance | Quality Assurance | Carbon Modeling | Market Connections

First, we offered an easy-to-use, cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) platform that interacted with the USEPA’s Central Data Exchange to manage Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs) and compliance data under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).

Page 4: Clean Energy Economy...300 East ocust Street, Suite 313 | es Moines, Iowa 0309 | 1.9.1260 ecoengineers.us 0 Approach to a Clean Energy Economy EcoEngineers delivers clean energy production

300 East Locust Street, Suite 313 | Des Moines, Iowa 50309 | 515.985.1260 | ecoengineers.us

In 2019, this platform managed more than 3 billion RIN transactions — on average nine million transactions per day.

EcoEngineers also brought to market one of the first RFS RIN Quality Assurance Programs (QAP) to help reestablish liquidity to the biodiesel industry after fraudulent RIN activity was discovered in 2012. Our QAP assures the quality of RINs produced at more than 90 facilities through comprehensive data review and site audits.

Our more recent efforts have focused on the integration of new technologies that lower the carbon intensity of fuel production, implementation of our trademark 360° approach to building a clean energy economy, and working with municipalities, industry, and agriculture to achieve zero-carbon goals and put sustainable farming practices in progress.

We are also one of the world’s leading providers of life-cycle analysis and carbon intensity modeling services.

The future is bright. The markets we serve continue to evolve and grow, as the world enters into the energy transition — an era where sustainable solutions to preserve clean air and water are demanded and clean carbon is the preferred energy source. We continue to break new ground in facilitating the production and use of clean energy, and we continue to exceed our own high standards in providing a world-class customer experience.

EcoUniversity

Over 400 hours of EcoUniversity workshops performed since 2016. NATASHA BEILSTEIN, Team Lead,

[email protected], 515.985.1276.

Successful clean energy project owners require a solid grasp of the regulatory requirements that drive value to their projects.

Our portfolio of training and education workshops will empower you to make informed decisions on your behalf and maintain compliance in an ever-evolving regulatory landscape as we transition to a low-carbon economy.

All workshops incorporate a “101” overview of regulatory requirements for all stakeholders and detailed compliance training for project owners and critical partners.

The workshops are fully customizable training modules presented in a building-block format to show the relationship between project development activities, regulatory decisions, and timing required to fully participate in clean energy credit markets.

In our experience, clients who invest in upfront training and education are better equipped to navigate the complex clean energy regulations and requirements that move their project across the finish line.

Workshops:

• Clean Energy Regulations 101 (RFS, LCFS)

• RNG 101

• LCFS and LCFS Verification-ready

• RFS RIN Management and Compliance

• Carbon 101

• Carbon Intensity and Modeling

• RCO (Responsible Corporate Officer) Training

Life-Cycle Analysis

Over 200 carbon life-cycle assessments completed since 2015.

ZHICHAO WANG, PH.D, P.E., Team Lead, [email protected], 515.985.1278.

You can’t reduce or monetize what you don’t measure.

Evolving clean energy regulations have life-cycle analysis (LCA) as their foundation. They require an accurate measurement of carbon usage and greenhouse gas emissions from “cradle to grave” and across Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.

Our LCA team is led by Zhichao Wang, Ph.D., P.E., who conducts research in the conversion of various feedstocks into bioenergy and establishes carbon intensity values through LCA modeling.

Whether you are evaluating the carbon intensity of your biofuel or the carbon footprint at a business, government institution, or municipality, we have the right strategies and solutions to help you reach your carbon management goals.

Regulations that Require LCA:• United States Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS)• California Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS)• Oregon Clean Fuels Program (CFP)• British Columbia Renewable and Low

Carbon Fuel Requirements (RLCFR)• European Union Institute for Sustainability
