Clean & Green Earth:

‘AN INITIATIVE TO SWACHH BHARAT’

Introduction :

Earth is the abode of varied no. of species ofplants, animals etc. With a vivid diversity itis the only planet known to us whichsupports and sustains life. This is only dueto nature and its unanimous gifts. But wethe mankind underestimate it and pollute itand add a burden of debt to ourselves. So tocontinue our run in this life we mustconserve and work to protect ourenvironment.

Pollution- an evil in environment…

You must be wondering why there are somany parks in our society? The reason isthat our cities are polluted and we needplaces where we can breath in fresh air.Villages and hamlets don’t need thembecause their environment is alreadypure. It is because we the educated classof society are responsible for most of theenergy wastage and pollution .

What is Pollution? :

• Pollution means various problems which degrade our environment. The problems related to pollution are :-

• P: Pollution by green house gases

• O: Ozone depletion

• L: Littering of environment

• L: Lack of awareness

• U: Unsuitable and Unhygienic environment

• T:Toxication of environment

• I: Improper health due to respiratory diseases

• O: Oxygen content gets diminished

• N: Nature’s degradation

Tackling Pollution……

• Pollution is responsible forenvironmental degradation and thuscauses unhygienic conditions in ourenvironment. If this increases then thechances of our survival decreases.

• To fight against this, clean and greenenergy is the best remedy.

• Green energy derived from bio-fuels isof great use as they don’t pollute theenvironment and leave no residue.

• The Government should take steps toraise awareness about environmentdegradation.

Green ENERGY…

• Green energy or renewable source of energy is the most heavily sought remedy to tackle pollution…These sources of energy are infinite in quantity and don’t pollute the environment. These sources of energy include Hydroelectricity, Wind energy, etc.

Today’s scenario of our society:

• At present India looks somewhat like this :-

• So WhAt ShOuLd We dO ?

• Don’t worry. You just have to follow 4 simple and easy steps...

Step no. 1

• You must be knowing that paper isobtained from cellulose which isobtained from trees. You alone are theroot for the falling of nearly 50 to 60 treesper year. So always use 2 sides of thepaper and do not waste them. Trees arethe natural filters of air. If trees will notbe there, then how can we breathe?

Step no. 2

• Clean and green road habits ensureminimum pollution and keeps theenvironment fresh. We should alwaysdrive our vehicles at a moderate speed of40 km/hr and should turn off our enginesat signal posts. This would reduce the airpollution by nearly 20 %.

Step no. 3

• Each one plant one. If every one in ourcountry plants at least 1 tree then we canadd a massive 1.2 billion of trees. Thiswould reduce the amount of pollution bynearly 50 %. But as Mahatma Gandhisays we must bring a change in ourselvesto see the surroundings change.

Step no. 4

• This is the most important step. Youshould never allow litter to build uparound you. Always keep your homes,offices, schools etc. clean which will helpyou in staying clean.

Step no. 5

• Always follow the 4 ‘R’s principle :-

• Reduce

• Reuse

• Regenerate

• Recycle

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

• Keeping in mind the 4th step,Swachh Bharat Abhiyan waslaunched. This initiative givescorrespondence to the words-‘Cleanliness is next to godliness’.But it is not that the governmentshould do this, it’s the duty of everycitizen to keep India clean.
