MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• ALL AREAS MUST BE ¼ IN DEPTH (MORE FOR BOWLS THAT A FOOT WILL BE CARVED FROM)
• ALL CLAY SCULPTURES MUST BE HALLOWED OUT ON THE INSIDE & A HOLE THROUGH THE BOTTOM MUST BE MADE TO RELIEVE PRESSURE.
• IF THIS IS NOT DONE IT WILL EXPLODE & BREAK ALL PIECES IN THE KILN!!!
• ATTACH A 3-D PIECE TO YOUR CLAY WORK. THIS PIECE WILL BE CREATED SEPARATELY THEN ATTACHED TO MAIN CLAY PIECE USING A SCORING AND SLIPPING TECHNIQUE (TUTORIAL WILL BE GIVEN).
• NO METAL, PLASTIC, OR ANY OTHER MATERIAL OTHER THAN CLAY CAN BE USED/ATTACHED!!!
• YOUR NAME MUST BE CARVED (DEEP) ON THE BACK/BOTTOM.• YOU ALSO MAY WANT TO CARVE A LIP ON THE BACK WHERE YOU CAN HANG ON A WALL WITH A NAIL.• MUST INCORPORATE A TEXTURE/PATTERN. THIS WILL BE DONE BY PRESSING SOMETHING INTO THE SURFACE OF YOUR WORK.
• MAKE SURE YOU PRESS EVENLY SO TEXTURE IS UNIFORM IN DEPTH!• MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO RIPPLES ON THE SURFACE WHILE YOU
ARE PRESSING YOUR TEXTURE.

Wednesday, October 21st
• On a piece of paper, draw another 6 inch x 6 inch square (or your design for clay – bowl, sculpture, etc. Must be of reasonable size - not too big)
• You can cut out this square to act as a stencil
• Knead your clay for at least 5 minutes• Video for kneading clay:• http://ceramicartsdaily.org/ceramic-supplie

• Place a board under your clay to prevent it from sticking to the table.
• Use a rolling pin to evenly roll out your clay (CLAY THICKNESS IN ALL AREAS MUST BE AT LEAST ¼ INCH THICK!)
• Place your 6 inch x 6 inch stencil over your clay and carefully cut clay tile
• Spritz with water! (If your clay starts to crack, it’s too dry!)

To add a 3-dimensional piece to the top of your clay piece: you need to slip and score
your clay so it will stick to each other!!
