A basic coil pot

(The bottom of the pot can be a slab - a flat, rolled-out piece of clay-

that's cut into a circle)

Score and wet each coil, and then smooth the insides so that the pot

doesn't fall apart in the kiln!

Pinch pot animals

First, score and wet (with slip) on both pots

Next, press the 2 pots together.

Adding a coil to the join will prevent the form from splitting in the kiln – again, score and wet

Smooth the joining coil so that you now have a perfect sphere!

Now you can add your cute bug eyes, and other features.

How about a bird? – this one was made by using 2 triangles for the beak

Remember to poke a hole in his body, so that the hot air can escape

during firing

These fish also started off as 2 pinch pots – with the mouth as the ventilation hole.

This animal was made with solid clay

The furry texture is added using any tool, such as a toothpick – you can try out different tools or objects to create textures and patterns

in your clay sculpture.

Lastly, you can add pieces to a flat surface (remembering to s & w of course). This is

called 'relief' work.
