the

history

of

clay

animation

and

you

are

familiarwithhowtousesoftwaretocreateshortanimations,itistimetocreatebegin

creatingclayanimationmoviesofyourown.

Togetyoustarted,thissectionofthetutorialwillallowyoutocreateashortclay

animatedmovieusingphotosalreadystoredonyourcomputer. Remember,thatclay

animationisaprocessinwhichyoumakesmallmovementsofclaycharacters,taking

picturesofeachsmallmovement. Onceyouhaveenoughphotostaken,youwillbeable

tostitchallofthephotostogethertocreateananimation.

Justsothatyouareawareofhowsmallthemovementsmustbeforeachphotograph,

letstakealookateachofthephotographsinthesampleanimationthatyouwillcreate.

Thisfoldercontains323photos,whichyouwillusetocreateyousampleanimation.

Youwillnoticethateachphotohasverysmallmovementscomparedwiththephoto

beforeit. Carefullyexaminejusthowsmallthemovementsbetweeneachofthe

photographsinthisfolder. Theprogramthatyouwillusewillneedeightofthese

photographstocreateonesecondofyourclayanimation.

ImportingPhotographstoCreateYourMovie

1. Tocreateyourmovie,youwillbeusingWindowsMovieMaker. Locatethefollowingicononyourdesktopanddoubleclickonittoopentheprogram.

2. OnceWindowsMovieMakerisopen,youwillneedtocreateaNewCollectiontoimportallofyourclipsinto. Todothis,rightclickontheCollectioniconandchoose

New

Collection.

3. YouwillnoticethataNewCollectionappearsunderneaththeCollectionsFolder.

Callthisfolder: Butterfly

4. WiththeButterflyCollectionselected,gotheFileMenu>> ChooseImportintoCollections

5. In the ImportWindow go to the following folders to locate the photos for yoursampleanimation.

MyComputer 2641_Stu(S:)Drive SharedDataFiles Technology ClayAnimationFiles ButterflyFolder

6. Once in the Butterfly Folder youwillseeallofthephotosrequiredtomake

the Butterfly Clay Animation movie.

SingleClick on the first image in the

folder, andpressCTRLA to select all

of the images in the folderasbelow.

Once all of the images are select,

PressImport.

10. IntheOptionsWindow,gototheAdvancedTabandchangethepicturedurationtobe0.125secondsperpicture. Thiswillgiveyouaframerateof8frames/second

whenyoucreateyourClayAnimationusingtheButterflyclipsthatyouhave

importedintoyourcollection. PressOK.

11.Nowthatyouhavechangedthepictureduration,youarereadytocreateyousamplemovie. ClickononeofthephotosinyourButterflycollections,thenpress

CTRLAtoselectallofthephotos. NowclickanddragallofthephotostotheVIDEO

Timelineasshownbelow. Thismaytakeasecondtocomplete,asyouarenow

adding323

photos

to

the

timeline.

12.Youwillnownoticethatyouhavea40secondclayanimationofaButterflyleavingacocoon. Youcanviewyouranimationbyclickingontheplaybuttonundertheright

handsidepreviewbutton.

13.SaveyourworkthatyouhavecompletedasButterflyAnimation,inyourBBTfolderundertheappropriaterotation.

14.Onthetoolbaratthetop,clickontheTasksButton. YouwillnownoticeanumberofoptionsonthelefthandsideofthescreenthatallowyoutoedittheAnimation.

UnderEditMovieHeading,giveyourButterflyAnimationaTitleandCredits.

15.Saveyourcompletedsampleanimationinyourfolder.Makesurethatyouhaveaddedatitleandcreditstotheanimation.

RecordingaVoiceOver

1. Youcanrecordavoiceoverforyouranimationaswell. Putyouratthebeginningofyourmovieinthetimeline. ClickontheNarrateTimelinebutton.Whenyouare

readytorecordyourvoiceoverforthetitle,clickonStartNarration.

2. Whenyouhaverecordedyournarrationyouwillbeaskedtosaveyournarration.SavethisnarrationinyourBBTFolder. Onceitissavedinyourfolder,youwillnotice

thatitappearsintheAudio/MusicTimelineofyouanimation.

3. ClickonPlaytopreviewmoviewiththeNarration. Ifnecessary,deletethenarrationand

re

record

to

get

it

to

sound

properly.

AddingMusictoAnimation

1. Youcanaddmusictoyouranimation. Inordertoaddmusic,youwillneedtoimportmusicintoyourcollection.

2. WiththeButterflyCollectionselected,gotheFileMenu>> ChooseImportintoCollections

3. In the ImportWindow go to the following folders to locate the photos for yoursampleanimation.

4. YouwillnoticethereisarecordingofBeethovensSymphonyinthisfolder.Choosethispieceofmusic,andhitOKtoimportthepieceofmusicintotheButterfly

5. LocatetheMusicFileinthecollection(asshownintheimagebelow)anddragitdowntotheAudio/MusicTimeline. Placeitdirectlyafteryourrecordednarration

forthetitle.

6. Clickontheplaybuttontoviewtheanimationwithyourrecordednarrationandthemusicimported.

7. Youwillnoticethatthemusicwillplaylongerthanyouranimation. Toshorten

your

music

to

the

appropriate

length,

move

your

mouse

over

theveryendofthemusicclipandclick,asshownintheimagebelow.

8. ClickandDragyourmusicfilesothatitisevenwiththelastclipinyourmovie,asshownintheimagebelow.

9. Saveyourprojectandpreviewyourmoviebyclickingontheplaybutton.

ExportingYourMovietoWindowMediaPlayer

WhenyouhavefinishedallofeditingforyourClayAnimationMovieyouwillneedto

exportyourmovietoWindowsMediaPlayer. Thiswillallowyoutoplayyourmovieon

anycomputerthathasWindowMediaPlayer.

1. Tosavetheproject,gotoFileMenu >> SaveMovieFile

2. TheSaveMovieFileWizardwillappearonyourscreen. ChooseMyComputerandclickNext.

3. TypeinButterflyforthenameofyourmovie. ClickontheBrowsebuttonandselecttheappropriateBBTfolderforyoutosaveyourmovietoandclicknext.

4. Onthenextscreen,chooseBestQualityforPlaybackonMyComputerandclickNext.

5. YourmoviewillnowbeexportedtoyourBBTfile. Gotoyourfile,doubleclickonyourButterflyMovietowatchitinWindowsMediaPlayer.
