“Art is made in order to communicate with other human beings.” - CLAUDIO BRAVO

Claudio Bravo has often been called the “architect of light.” Moving to Morocco in the early 1970’s for the beautiful Mediterranean light, it was there, separated geographically from the contemporary art world, that he pursued the classical aesthetic – beauty for the sake of beauty. A modern master who drew inspiration from the Spanish realist tradition of Velázquez and Zurbarán, he not only explored the epic and the mundane but had a unique way of combining the traditional with the new.

It was with tragic suddenness that we lost Claudio Bravo on June 4, 2011. His death left an enormous void for many of us who knew him both professionally and personally. Our friendship and his long relationship with the gallery spanned more than 30 years. I will always remember his keen sense of observation as well as his engaging personality and subtle sense of humor.

It is with admiration and affection that we dedicate this exhibition to the memory of a great friend and artist.
