How Our Opening Titles Are Similar and Different To Published Films

• In the movie Snatch, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and other published movies of the same genre do not use freeze frames.

• We used freeze frame so the audience could get a closer look at the character introduced.

• This is affective because it means the audience feel connected to the characters.

• In our film, we also used freeze frames to introduce our characters.

• The difference is that we not turn out image into a cartoon.

How Our Opening Titles Are Similar and Different To Published Films

• Every single film that is made has a distributing company that has paid money into the film.

• The film makers then have to include their distributing companies logo at the beginning of the film.

• There are normally many companies logos that appear at the beginning of the film.

• Our film has three different logos at the beginning. One of them is ‘ska films’ which is Guy Ritchie’s company and the other two we made ourselves.

How Our Opening Titles Are Similar and Different To Published Films

• In the film Snatch the two main characters are introduced at the very beginning of the film.

• In many films the main character is not introduced until later on.

• In our film we introduced our characters also, at the very beginning of our film.

• We did this because we wanted to get the audience interested in our film from the very beginning.

Social Groups In Our Media Product

• The house represented the middle/upper class to convey wealth.

• We chose to use this house because we wanted to portray to the audience that there could be some expensive items in there worth steeling.

• We also chose to use this house because it is not the sort of house people would expect our characters to live in.

Page 6: Claudia and Charley powerpoint

• We chose to dress the boys in lower class clothes to represent that they were not from a wealthy back ground. Also to portray that many youths dress like this. For example, as you can see In the image on the right in the movie ‘Harry Brown’ they are dressed in almost exactly the same way. This is because they are both represented as coming from a lower class background, therefore hang around in the street, which is what many youths do in reality.

• We also decided to dress them quite similarly to tell the audience that 1. they weren’t dressed for a robbery and 2. that one copied the other in the way they dressed.

• This was another prop we used in our open sequence, this was a minor prop but also quite important.

• This prop was used to bring humour to our open sequence and also to convey something about Gary’s character.

• We chose this prop to portray that our characters are no different to any other teenage boy and enjoy listening to their music. This brings an element of realism into our movie.

Social Groups In Our Media Product

• We chose to have Gary spit out his food because it shows how little respect they have for the house.

• We also used this to show the upbringing they came from and didn’t have very many manners.

• Gary steps in the food, this shows he has no respect. This could be because lack of discipline from parent, due to the fact that he may be brought up in a single parent household.

Why Our Chosen Distributing Company Would Distribute Our Media Product

• We chose SKA Films because it is an independent film company and films such a Snatch and Trainspotting were produced by an independent film company.

• Most British gangster films are made

by SKA films which is Guy Richie film company and this would appeal to people who like this genre of film or the liked this film company.

Why Our Chosen Distributing Company Would Distribute Our Media Product

• We also chose to make our own distribution company called Mystery Films.

• We chose this name because our film has a mystery element to it and the film ends with them finding the mystery thing they needed.

Certificates for our film

• Ideally the certificate we would like our film to be is certificate 15. This is because it has a lot of swearing in it to be a certificate 12 and the characters in the film are about this age so other people can relate to them.

• The bad things about it being 15 is we lose out on a lot of our audience because they are not old enough to see it.

• Lastly we are hoping 15 although other films we looked at like Snatch and Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels are 18 we thought that having a 15 certificate would appeal to a younger audience.

How Our Media Product Attracted Our Audience

• We used enigma to get people to want to carry on watching the film.

• Our film is a British Gangster genre film and will appeal to the audience that have an interest in this genre. For example, the humorous script elements add comedy to the scenes.

How Our Media Product Attracted Our Audience

• We attracted our audience with our choice of cast. We decided to use two teenagers as the main characters.

• We did this because our film is targeted for 15+ year olds. If we cast teenagers people will be more interested in watching the film.

What We Have Learnt About Technologies

• The main technology we have learnt about are HD cameras . HD is the picture quality.

• The difference between an HD picture quality and not HD is becoming better as we speak.

• This is because Video cameras are being upgraded every year maybe even a few times a year. Each time there is an upgrade something improves. Whether it is the picture quality or the option on the camera.

• 3D is becoming extremely popular in cinemas at the moment and we are convinced that in time, any member of public will be able to edit their film and make it 3D easily.

What We Have Learnt About Technologies

• We have learnt that Final Cut Pro is a program made and designed for apple computers and laptops.

• It allows people to cut, edit and put to get their own footage. This is an extremely cheap and modern way of making a film. This is used instead of literally cutting the film and sticking it back together. We used this program to make our film.

• Logic Pro is another program made and designed for apple computers and laptops.

• It allows people to record, edit and manipulate their own recordings to make, maybe a theme tune or a song for their film. We used this program to make our Reggae track.

What We Have Learnt From Our Preliminary Task

• We have learnt about the 180° rule. This is when the camera is focused on an actor in the movie and when switched to the second actor you must not move more than 180° otherwise the audience will get confused with who is who because actor 1 would have swapped side of the frame.

• We have also learnt about the 30° rule. This is when filming something or someone and you want to catch them from different angle, you must move the camera more than 30° from the starting point, otherwise it will look like a jump cut.

What We Have Learnt From Our Preliminary Task

• We also learnt about shot reverse shot. This is commonly used when, in a movie two people are having a conversation.

• It is used to show the audience and make it clear that they are the two people having the conversation.

• We have used shot reverse shot in our film and I think it is extremely effective.

• 2 shot is another technique to use to show two people having a conversation.
