Classes as place holders [Components in Super BOM]

As we all know, Super BOMs are used in Variant Configuration, which contain contains all the components that are required

    to manufacture the material.

But there is one more option availale in SA! to use Classes as BOM Items.

"ou can use class items to control the selection of variant parts in a BOM. Variant parts are classified in a class, and this

class is entered in the BOM as a class item. #hen $ou configure the material, the class is replaced $ a suitale variantpart.

Class items can help $ou to simplif$ maintenance of BOMs for configurale materials%

You only enter one item for the class, instead of several items for the individual variant parts.

You do not need to create and assign selection conditions.

You can classify additional obects in the class at any time, !ithout having to change the BOM.

&ets take e'ample of Super Bike, it have ( parts which have ( possile cominations.

)f we create S*!+ BOM for it we need to Create BOM with - items and write dependencies Selection Condition / for each

    item position.

Below are the steps to Create Class BOM.

Create characteristics that descrie the o0ects

    Transaction CT04

    Characteristic 1ame% CO&OO , Allowed Values +2, B&*+, B&AC3

    C4AAC5+S5)C +16)1+

    C4AAC5+S5)C +74A*S5

    Create Class% CO&O* , 5ransaction C&89, Create Classes of t$pe :88 ; (88 with same name.

)nput previousl$ created Characteristic CO&O* in it.

    Class% +74A*S5

)nput previousl$ created Characteristic +74A*S5 in it.

Create Material Master% S*!+ B)3+, and )nclude these Classes in Classification View.

And in Classification view, add class CO&O* with value 89+2/

epeat same to create other = materials tied up with other value comination ie Blue, Black, 9:88 CC, 9>88 CC, 9=88 CC etc

    5o test this setup , 6o 5o 5ransaction C*>8

    Assign values to characteristics

Classes presented in BOM will e replaced $ material numer associated with characteristic values.

If in result screen, more then expected items are appearing or same item is appearing twice please

    check sap note on

"A specialized class item is displayed twice in the result screen of the conuration" !A #ote $%$&''

    Ad(antaes

?or products with man$ variants, class items make the ill of material easier to maintain.

5he class item is used as a placeholder for an item, and has several o0ects allocated to it for e'ample, screwsfrom different suppliers/. +ach o0ect has a unique identifier in the class. #hich o0ect is replaced for the class item depends

on the characteristic values that are required for a particular configuration of the material.

)f $ou enter all the possile o0ects for an item individuall$, $ou must allocate a selection condition to each item, so

that onl$ the component $ou require is selected when $ou configure the material.

)f $ou use a class item, $ou no longer need to maintain these selection conditions. #hen $ou configure the material,

the s$stem selects the component whose characteristic values in the class are identical to those required for this

    material.

Material requirements planning M!/ is supported for class items. )n Customi@ing functions for M!, $ou can

define that a check is made in M! as to whether an order BOM e'ists. )f an order BOM does e'ist,

requirements for a material selected from a class item are transferred to M!.

)isad(antaes)n a class item, the item quantit$ is alwa$s the same, regardless of which classified material is selected. ?or this reason,

onl$ use class items in cases where $ou use the same quantit$ of different materials.

Below are few enhancements *elated to class nodes in (ariantconuration
