Class Piano All-City Announcement

Join the Shelby County Schools Class Piano student performers for their All-City 2018, Around the World: 88 Years, 88 Keys concert which will be held 7:00 p.m., April 12, 2018 at Colonial Middle School, 1370 Colonial Road. The Shelby County Schools Class Piano Program has been in existence since 1930, and is the oldest continuing piano program in the U.S., with 12 teachers serving 16 schools in the district.

This year the theme delivers an eclectic collection of music! From the familiar to the exotic, the musical offerings promise to bring joy and delight into the life of the listener. We hope you will be present to share the performers’ experience as they share their heart and soul through music.

Musical selections include “Bagpipers”, a tune with Scottish flair, a taste of India with “Snake Charmer” a tribute to Native American heritage with “Pow-Wow” and an up-tempo piece, “Hot Pursuit”. Old familiars include “Friend Like Me/A Whole New World”, “Tomorrow” from the musical “Annie” and Louis Armstrong’s hauntingly beautiful and uplifting “What a Wonderful World. The finale is a rousing rendition of the spiritual “He’s got the Whole World in His Hands”.
