Class of 2016Our AChievements

December 2016 | Tevet 5777

John Hamey College Principal in a speech at the melbourne institute’s economic and social Outlook Conference last year, malcolm turnbull outlined the importance of encouraging a culture of innovation in Australia and providing students in schools with the skills they need in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to understand and become familiar with the machine languages they will need in the future. in his address stated, 'We need to be more innovative, we need to be more technologically sophisticated. What we need to do is embrace change, be

adaptable, flexible and innovative.' Our graduates are entering a world waiting with opportunity and optimism requiring of them an agility and willingness to embrace change often, quickly and competently.equally, our graduates need to be able to find creative solutions to complex problems through a sophisticated and seamless integration of the thinking skills taught and acquired through each of the traditional disciplines. Further, they need to be able to communicate these solutions through a range of platforms and mediums in a way that is erudite, cohesive, and yet simplistic and accessible. innovators who cannot communicate complex information in this way are not likely to succeed or harness the required energy to support their innovation and potential.the achievement of our students as detailed in this booklet affirms our student’s readiness to embrace the world that awaits them. they have demonstrated academic excellence and the ‘stretch’ to engage in integrated thinking. they are articulate, confident

communicators who care equally about the social benefits of innovation and work as they do about economic growth and development. During their time at school they have embraced the importance of chesed as evidenced in their commitment to community service, a strong engagement with civic and Jewish life and for many, a commitment to advocate for better social outcomes for those that cannot do this alone or for themselves. they are young women and men who bring much nachas to their families and our community – not only because of their outstanding achievements across a range of endeavors but because of their character, perseverance, commitment and care for one another. We wish the class of 2016 b’hatzlacha and may great and wonderful things await them. in the words of the blessing their parents pray over them each shabbat: may G-d Bless you and guard you. may the light of G-d shine upon you, and may G-d be gracious to you. may the presence of G-d be with you and give you peace.
