Plants perennial, usually in dense patches, the stems tough, 4-8 dm tall, branched above. Leaves linear-oblong, 2-4 cm long, their bases rounded but not meeting around the stem. Flowers in compound cymes, the petals 6-9 mm long. Occasional as a weed over the state. Jun--Jul. St.John's wort H y p e r i c u m perforatum L. 1' Stamens usually not more than 12, not in clusters; fruiting capsule 1-celled when seeds begin to mature. Plants perennial, stems sparingly branched above, 3-6 dm tall. Leaves lanceolate, 2-4 cm long, broadly obtuse or rounded at the base, the basal margins meeting around the stem. Flowers yellow, numerous in cymes, the petals 2.5-4 mm long; fruiting capsule up to 7 mm long. Advent ive as a weed in waste places.
