KINDS OF ADJECTIVES

Adjectives are words which are used to describe or

modify

a noun or a pronoun.

For example: (i) a red hat. (ii) a quick rabbit.

✓ THERE ARE MAINLY FIVE TYPES OF ADJECTIVES:

Page 2: Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES · 2020. 8. 27. · ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOLS –CHANDIGARH, PANCHKULA, MOHALI, ZIRAKPUR Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES

In this worksheet we shall be focusing on two types of adjectives. They are:

i) Adjective of quality: It is an adjective used to talk about the quality of a

person or thing. In layman’s language, it answers to the question “what

kind of?”. For example,

(a) Mukesh Ambani is a wealthy man.

(b) I read an interesting book.

Some examples for adjectives of quality are as follows:

Page 3: Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES · 2020. 8. 27. · ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOLS –CHANDIGARH, PANCHKULA, MOHALI, ZIRAKPUR Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES

ii) Adjective of quantity: It is an adjective which shows the quantity of the

nouns or pronouns in a sentence. It does not provide exact number. It tells

only the ‘amount’. It indicates ‘‘how much’’ noun is there in the sentence.

For example:

(a) He has many friends.

(b) He has enough money to start a business.

Some examples for adjectives of quantity are as follows:

Parallels and Meridians

Properties of Parallels

• All Parallels are complete circles except for the

North Pole and the South Pole. These are

points.

• The length of the parallel decreases as we move

away from the equator towards the poles.

• Parallels do not intersect with each other.

• All Parallels are located at an equal distance

from each other.

How are parallels numbered?

We start from the Equator and mark it as 0o

latitude. Parallels are also marked as N (north) or

S (south), according to their location. They are

drawn at intervals of one degree. There are 90 parallels in the Northern Hemisphere and

90 in the Southern Hemisphere. Therefore, there are total 181 parallels including the

EQUATOR.

Properties of Meridians

• All meridians are of same length.

• The maximum distance between any two

meridians is at the equator. It keeps

decreasing as we move away from the

equator towards the poles.

• Meridians cut the parallels at right angle.

• They are used to measure distances in the

east-west direction.

How are Meridians numbered?

We start from the Equator. The meridian that

passed through Greenwich was marked 0o and

named Prime Meridian. If we move away from

the Prime Meridian towards the east or the west,

we reach halfway round the Earth at 180o. Thus, there are 180 meridians in the east and

the west. In total there are 360 meridians.

Locating places on the globe.

We use globe to locate places on it, so we

must know the values of its parallel or

latitude and its meridian or longitude. The

point at which the parallel and the

meridian cross each other is the location

of that place.

Q.1. Read the above content carefully and answer the following:

a) Write three features/properties of parallels.

b) Write three features/properties of meridians.

c) How can we locate a place on a globe?

Q.2. Fill in the blanks.

a) The Prime Meridian passes through a place called ____________.

b) To locate a place on a globe we must know its __________ and __________.

c) ________(0o) is taken as the starting line for all the other meridians.

d) The two end points at the top or bottom of the Earth’s axis are called _________.

SAFETY AND FIRST AID

There are three types of burns: minor, severe and chemical burns. In case of a minor

burn, let running cold water flow over on the burn until the pain subsides. Apply an

antiseptic lotion or cream to prevent infection. If an antiseptic lotion is not available,

apply a paste of baking soda and water. Severe burns are when sometimes the skin gets

severely burnt and blisters are formed. Never try to prick a blister. An open blister is an

open wound. Severe wound can be treated by a doctor. If a person’s clothes catch fire,

do not allow him to run around in panic. This fans the flames. Make him roll on the

ground. Cover him with a thick blanket. If a fire has been caused by defective wiring or

an electric gadget, do not throw water on it. Immediately turn off the main switch.

Smother the fire by throwing sand. Use fire extinguisher. In case of animal bites, wash

the wound with soap and water to remove germs, as the virus which causes rabies or

hydrophobia may be carried in the saliva of an infected animal. Dogs, wolves, bats and

cats are known to carry the rabies virus. Apply an antiseptic lotion, bandage the wound

and rush the victim to a doctor. Keep the telephone numbers of your nearest police

station, fire station, doctor and chemist handy. In case of an emergency we should call

them immediately.

Class - 5 Computer Worksheet-4

Topic: Generations of Computers

The development of electronic computers can be divided into five generations

depending upon the technologies used. The following are the five generations of

computers.

A. First generation computers (1941 - 56):

They were based on the use of Vaccum tubes.

These computers used Magnetic tapes to store

the data.

These computers relied on machine language

to perform any operation and could solve

only one problem at a time.

Input was based on punched cards and paper

tapes.

Output was displayed on printouts.

These computers were slow, expensive, and large in size and consumed a large

amount of energy.

Examples: UNIVAC, ENIAC, and EDVAC.

B. Second Generation Computers (1956 - 63):

They used transistors in place of vacuum tubes.

Like the first generation, these computers relied

on Magnetic Tapes.

These computers moved from machine language

to assembly language, which allowed the

programmers to specify instructions in words.

Punched cards and paper tapes were used as

input devices, and output was presented through

printouts.

These computers were faster, cheaper, smaller and more efficient than the

computers of first generation.

Languages came into existence during second generation were: FORTRAN,

COBOL, Basic.

Examples: IBM1400, IBM350, etc.

C. Third Generation Computers (1964 - 71):

Integrated Circuits (IC) were used as the main

technology in these computers.

Magnetic disks were used for the storage.

Page 13: Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES · 2020. 8. 27. · ST. XAVIER’S SCHOOLS –CHANDIGARH, PANCHKULA, MOHALI, ZIRAKPUR Class- 5 English Worksheet-5 KINDS OF ADJECTIVES

Languages came into existence during third generation were: PASCAL, RPG.

These computers were small in size, had huge storage capacity, higher

calculating speed, are reliable than the previous generations of computers.

Keyboard was used as an input device. Whereas, monitors and printers were

used as output devices.

Examples: IBM System 360, Apple1, etc.

D. Fourth Generation Computers (1971 – Present)

The present-day computers, are based on Very

Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuits called

microprocessors.

High capacity Magnetic disks are used to store

data.

Input is done through keyboard, Mouse, Scanner, etc.

Besides Monitor and Printer, various new devices, such as Plotters and Speakers

have evolved as output devices.

These computers can be linked together to share storage capacity, space, data,

etc.

The use of microprocessors resulted in decreased size and increased efficiency.

These computers are reliable, portable and cheapest among all the other

generations.

Examples: Apple Macintosh, IBM PC, etc.

E. Fifth Generation Computers (Present & Beyond)

Fifth generation computers involve

Artificial Intelligence (AI), where

computers can behave, think and react in

the same way as humans do.

These computers are still in development,

though there are some applications, such

as voice recognition that are being used

today.

The goal of fifth-generation computing is to develop devices that respond to

natural language input and to imitate human reasoning.
