“Adopting & Adapting”

When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.John 13:12-17

John 13:12-17

What do we adopt & what do we adapt ?

Dial 6: Communal

• How do we apply this text to our current situation and life?

• How do we use this text to shape who we are?

Page 11: Class 14 12 15

Scripture is meant to be read in community -not just

personally.

• Not less personal time, but more communal time with Scripture.

• 1847 out of 2913 “You”’s are really “y’all”’s! (ex. Colossians 3:15-17)

• Reading the Bible is an act of worship. Are we giving it the proper authority in our communal time?

Page 12: Class 14 12 15

Scripture is meant to shape the community -not just the person.

• Scripture reminds us of our call! We read to remember!

• God is working through the Bible into the hearts of individuals & into the blood of the Body of believers!

• Our personal and communal dials must be in harmony.

I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
