TwitterWhat is it?

A service for friends, family, co-workers, and organizations to stay in touch with others through the exchange of short frequent messages

People write short updates called “tweets” of 140 characters or less

These messages are posted to your profile and sent to your followers; your message is also accessible by a keyword search for all users

Cheaper alternative to big online job boards

Small organizations that don’t have a careers section of their web and can’t afford a job board will advertise here.

Provides a screening tool for positions that receive a high yield of candidates (i.e. entry-level positions)

Target social-media-savvy job hunters and convey an innovative image

Offers the chance to interact one-on-one with recruiters

Stay up-to-the minute with new job notifications

You know for sure that the organization is actively recruiting for this position

Offers students the chance to research what is happening and what is being said about an organization

TwitterThings students should consider:

They should pick a name that is professional

Tweet with care! (Example from Recruiter: “Hey dude, you got any jobs in California?”)

Have a separate personal and professional twitter account and be careful about what you tweet

Students that are using Twitter to build a brand/presence on the web should especially be careful of their posts

Members can explore connections of their connections

Tool for job seekers
