  • Clash of Clans Introduction

    Clash of Clans is a Social-Strategy game for iOS and Android mobile

    devices. SuperCell, the creator, sprinkled in a dash of role-play in the

    game where players construct villages and action play, introducing warriors

    to defend the village.

    Once you are ready, your warriors explore the area and go on excursions for

    the purpose of pillaging neighboring villages so that they can increase their

    clans wealth. Along the way, they must fight off monsters and enemy clans that they bump into.

    Social strategy games are specifically designed to create an atmosphere where people can meet

    in a safe online environment, swap tall tales, real life events and relax. These types of games

    focus more on the consequences of decisions than on winning battles. Most people who play

    Clash of Clans are non-aggressive players that enjoy friendly rivalrysomething that make this

    game suitable for youngsters.

    Clash of Clans was designed to attract the 13-and-over crowd who enjoy personal challenges that

    stretch their imagination to think out of the box; the game also requires minimal time to engage

    in playing. As such, goals are reached in a matter of days or hours depending on your skill set

    and experience at gaming.

    In a social-strategy game, it is often easier to play solo in the open fields where you may bump

    into other players. When you meet another player ask them if they would like to play with you,

    to take out a specific village ahead. In this way, you can see how well you work together and

    make friends with players from anywhere in the world. After a while you may also want to form

    a clan together.

  • Creating your own Clan can be done by random matching with other playersor even better--

    you can invite family and friends to team up with you. The third option is to place an

    announcement on one of the forum boards.

    Whats New for 2014

    Since its initial launch in 2012 on iOS mobile devices, SuperCell has been upgrading, modifying,

    tweaking and expanding the game and access to the game. 2014 promises greater global

    expansion, item/character additions and modifications of game activities.

    One of the most rewarding aspects of playing Clash of Clans has been the interaction of users

    with the company. While the company is not set up to respond directly to users on a one-to-one

    basis, it does closely monitor the suggestions placed into the forum boards. Nearly every update

    and tweak that has occurred in the last year has been the result of player suggestions.

    Going Global

    In late October, the developer received

    investment funds from two major Japanese

    companies, to assist in the expansion of the

    game into the Asian markets. In cooperation

    with SoftBank and GungHo, Clash of Clans

    will be available to mobile users in Japan,

    Korea and China. This is a huge development in the cutthroat business of online gaming.

    The investment deal keeps SuperCell in control of all proprietary rights of the game. The

    developer wants to maintain the purpose of the game rather than taking the chance that it will

    become just another hard-hitting action RPG down the line. The producer prides himself on the

    fact that they are creating games that have a positive social impact in bringing families together

    in an electronic environment.

    Dueling Arena

  • At the request and suggestion of players, SuperCell is going

    to be adding Dueling Arenas for challenges, battles and events

    where Clans can strut their stuff.

    Players suggestions placed on the Forum boards are forwarded

    to the producer for consideration. This is one of the many features that have been approved.

    More Tiers Coming

    Currently, there are three tiers of troops with P.E.K.K.A being the most

    powerful. However, SuperCell has approved the creation of additional troop

    Tiers.

    Clan Growth Clans will have the option to increase in size by expanding to

    100; it will also be able to have at least one more leader per

    clan. This has been a long-requested update by players and

    2014 will grant those wishes.

    Customize Clan Flag

    The advent of customizing clan flags will make it easier to identify villages,

    troops on campaigns and in the upcoming battle arenas, combatants who are

    challenging each other.

    Build to Order Troops

    This is a major tweak that will probably not show up until the end of

    the year, but players will be able to control the troop builds or choose

    an automated option. SuperCell has approved unlimited troop

    builds for the latest versions coming out in 2014.

  • Replay Duration Increase

    The problem of retaining replays when the system is undergoing

    maintenance and losing any possibility of replays if you logoff will

    be fixed in 2014. Data for replays will be secured while

    maintenance is being done and you will be able to use the replays for up to 2 days after you

    received them. Additionally, replays will go from 4 to 6.

    In the Beginning

    Unlike most multiplayer virtual games, Clash of Clans is played with time limits. Raids and

    campaigns are gauged by days and weeks while the life of items is gauged in days, hours and

    minutes before they expire.

    If you are killed in a raid or campaign within the time limit, you can hit the Replay button and

    try again but these extra chances are limited, as well. This is why it is even more important that

    you get a working knowledge of the various elements of this game before plummeting headlong

    into enemy territory.

    Start with Tutorials

    Start by downloading the game to your SmartPhone, iPhone, iPad, or

    other Android/iOs device. As with any game module, you will need to

    create a game name and password for continued access.

    Create a Game Center account! On your mobile device, find the Game

    Center App. Login to Clash of Clans and launch it from Game Center

    rather than an open area. This way you can protect your game from being lost if your mobile

    device gets wet, lost or stomped on by the family horse, plus you can also protect all the

    members of your clan from wandering around without you.

    With that done, the very first thing that you should do is complete the tutorial even if you are

    an avid gamer.

  • Every game has its own structure and quirks and by reviewing the tutorial it doesnt take long

    - you will know how to get started without messing your game up.

    For those of you who like to skip reading the directions, you have two choices when it comes

    to construction and accumulating resources.

    You can buy Gems for real money with your credit card buy resources with your

    Gems to start additional construction

    You can let construction finish on its own during which time you will be accumulating

    resources for free

    Learn Before You Deploy

    Gaming fans often have played several different types of games over the years and commonly

    decide that they can figure out the latest game choice without any tutorials, hints or guides.

    More experienced gamers have learned through the school of dead ended gameplay that tutorials

    and guides get you started off in the right direction, saving tons of time and frustration.

    Time Limits

    Each element of the game has a set time limit to complete it. This includes the time to build

    Town Halls, how long a shield will last, and how long a League Season lasts. Before you

    embark on a course of action, check to see what you need in order to accomplish your goals.

    Determine Your Long Term Objective

    Even before you place you Level 1 Town Hall on your village map, you need to decide if you are

    more interested in faster leveling or accumulating trophies. Where you plop your town hall in

    relation to village walls will enhance or defeat your chances of reaching your goals.

    Players that prefer faster leveling as a solo should focus on increasing Resources. It is not

    uncommon that new players want to get the hang of the game by playing solo instead of in a

    clan.

  • With this focus, there is the option to place your Town Hall outside the walls. This means that it

    will remain unprotected and when the villagers run for cover, they must leave the walls and run

    to the Town Hall--- making them unprotected, as well. However, you will gain gold and elixirs

    faster if your TH is outside the walls.

    For players who decide that they want

    to eventually join a Clan, or have their

    own Clan join a League, collecting

    trophies will help in their endeavors.

    For this objective, you need to keep

    your TH safe from all possible attacks.

    This means you need to place it inside the walls.

    Understanding Levels

    In most games, your level is determined by some combination of your Hit Points and Experience

    Points. In Clash of Clans, your level is determined by a more complicated calculation that gives

    weight to Town Hall level, achievements completed, destruction of opponents Town Hall,

    completions in Single Player Campaigns, how many and how often you donate troops to another

    village, the upgrade of buildings and structures, and how many obstacles are cleared.

    All that said: your experience and player level has absolutely nothing to do with determining

    any matchmaking for raids or amount of loot you will get, if you are successful. Trophies will

    determine the matchmaking for your raiding choices and the level of your town hall determines

    how much loot you will get if you raze the village.

    Understanding Campaigns

    There are Single Player and Multiplayer campaigns for every player after the tutorial is

    completed. Single Player raids are called Campaigns and multiplayer campaigns are called

    Raids.

    The clan or player that wins the encounter is given a percentage of the loot of the loser.

  • The amount of loot that youll receive primarily depends on your Town Hall level vs. the

    competitors Town Hall level. If you raid a village with a lower leveled TH, you will get minimal

    loot 10% - and lose experience points as well. This translates into losing gold, trophy points

    and other elements that you have strived to achieve.

    Understanding Achievements

    Achievements are campaigns, upgrades or loot collections that you have achieved. When teams

    and leagues are considering accepting you into their circle, they will look at your profile and see

    what you have achieved. The Achievement list can be found here.

    You can increase your trophies, gold, elixirs and gems by completing achievements

    irrespective of whether in groups or single play.

    Elements of Game

    Below is an overview of all the various elements in Clash of Clans that influence the strategies

    you choose and the goals you wish to reach.

    Town Hall

    Pay attention to the Build Time for each level upgrade! Only one Builder at a

    time can work on a structure. Town Halls upgrade to Level 10.

    Non-Combatants

    There are 2 non-combatant types in the game. You get one builder and eventually

    One villager while your Town Hall is Level 1. After all, a villager

    has to have a place to go in case of attack.

    Builder You must buy at least one more builder in the tutorial since

    building a village is not a one-man job. You can have no more than 5 builders total.

    Builders are an industrious lot remaining on-the-job until a project is complete. Then,

    they return to their hut and zs appear signaling to you that they are ready to work on an

    upgrade. Your builders come with their own huts. So, you dont have to buy them both.

    Villager Of all the characters in the game, villagers are the most aggravating! They

    wander around the village with no apparent purpose and just when you dont need them

    to help the enemy, they will.

    Troops

    Troops is a classification of all your army members that you take into battle. One thing to

    know about all troop characters is that they will not protect your village.

  • Troops are broken down into the following categories:

    Tier 1 these are the weaklings of the troop world. They are best used in groups.

    Sending your Barbarian against an enemy village is a suicide move. You need several

    Barbarians of this level, working together in order to stand a chance. The

    Archer is a long-distance fighter who attacks everything that is in her

    range. Goblins are not the healthiest characters in the group, but they are

    the fastest on the ground. They scoot and swipe resources, beating

    spring traps and deal more damage than a Barbarian. These troops are cheap to train.

    Tier 2 these troops are actually specialists of your campaigns or raids. Wall Breakers

    do just what they suggest blow up walls. Wizards specialize in

    superior targeting of firepower-- even if their firepower doesnt have

    long-term effects. Giants are the lumbering big guys who shove and

    push their way through obstacles and defenses. Balloons are flying Wall

    Breakers who drop bombs on targets that are hard to reach from the ground.

    Tier 3 these are currently the strongest of the regular troops. They are very expensive

    to train and take a horribly long time to prepare for battles. Even though they can destroy

    an entire village with minimal support, you might find that they are not

    worth the price. P.E.K.K.A is the top dog of regular units. She is

    a cross between a samurai and an armored hippo. She is hard to

    kill with anything except Hidden Teslas something like an

    underground building that is activated when enemy units

    approach.

    Dark Elixir Troops are next in the line of up-level units. They have the appearance of

    gargoyles come to life.

  • Heroes are high-level specialty troop units for multiplayer raids and league games,

    mostly.

    Its vital to know that when you raid win or lose your troops do not return to your barracks

    they are, apparently, not the most loyal characters around. You need to be training troops

    constantly, which can be costly if you are training Tier 3 units more than others.

    And, dont forget you need to give troops away to your clan members! Only visiting troops

    Buildings

    Buildings are divided into four categories: Defensive, Resource, Army, and Other.

    Defensive includes armaments such as bombs, cannon and towers

    Resource mainly generate wealth for your village gold mines, elixir drills, and

    builders huts

    Army these are quarters for you troops-- including Army camp, barracks, laboratory,

    spell factory, alters for the two heroes

    Other includes Town Hall and Clan Castle, as well as decorations and obstacles;

    decorative items spruce up your village, making you feel more lived in and identifiable

    included are national flags, statues, torches and even ancient skulls that can be placed

    on top of walls;

    Obstacles include rocks, mushrooms, tree trunks some regenerate, others do not and all

    cost currency to remove but experience points can be gained in the process.

    Spells

    Unlike the magical quality of Spells in other games, these Spells are more like ammunition than

    magic.

    It takes about 30-minutes to make one spell.

    Lightning bolts shoot out from the sky and randomly damage air defenses and troops

  • Healing a stationary ring with the power to heal only your troops that are in the circle,

    but it only lasts 12-seconds so you have to use it strategically

    Rage increases the speed of your troops and makes your healer slightly more powerful,

    takes 2 days to make a level 2 potion, lasts 1-second and is for Tier 3 only troops

    Jump level 1 spell takes 45-minutes to simmer completely, lasts 1-second and the only

    upgrade costs 400,000 elixirs; it helps troops jump walls but dropping 2 jump spells in

    the same area does not make it last longer.

    Freeze the stop em in their tracks spell, Freeze immobilizes ground troops and

    defensive building only; Level 1 Freeze lasts 4-seconds and takes 45-minutes to make;

    Level 2 upgrade costs 4,000,000 elixir and lasts 5-seconds after 2-days of smoldering in

    the lab.

    Gems

    Everyone gets 500 Gems as a gift to start the game. After that, you must earn them or buy them

    with real world money. Gems are one of the currencies used to buy items, upgrade resources and

    complete troop training instantly when youre in a pinch. For more information about Gems, this

    is a reliable source.

    Shields

    Shields are one of the most important elements in the game. Imagine

    allowing your bungling Barbarian to wander around a map, bumping

    into enemy troops and stubbing his toe on rocks with no protection at

    all!

    At the opening of the game, every player gets a 3-day shield.

    After that, you have to purchase one of three shields:

    1-day Shield cost 100 Gems

    2-day Shield cost 150 Gems

    1-Week Shield costs 250 Gems

  • There are no other shields. This is mentioned because some new player took advantage of one of

    the free cheats and thought that he purchased in real money a 34-day Shield. There is no

    such thing.

    Shields are disabled during battles-- whether single or multi-player. If your village is attacked

    and at least 40% is destroyed, you will get an automatic shielding for 12-hours to protect you

    from further farming or raids.

    Strategies

    Even though Clash of Clans is a lower-key casual strategy game, it is more complex than a click-

    and-play activity. There are all kinds of strategies attack, raiding and elixir. Any strategy must

    be weighed by how much it will cost you to replace the troops you deploy vs. the loot you will

    get for the win.

    Goblin Outpost in the strategy provided, it recommends using 4 Giants, which is worth

    the same as 80 Barbarians [for replacement purposes]; you can win using just 15

    Barbarians; the loot is 40 Barbarians; this means you will replace your 15 used and gain

    an additional 25 for free!

    Goblin Gauntlet better done with max of 20 Barbarians since your loot is only 80

    Barbarians; pro tip, dont use the Wall Breakers or Giants because you get no

    replacements for those troops. This means you gain 60 Barbarians and replace the 20 lost

    for free.

    Gold Rush use a maximum of 40 Barbarians, no Giants and 1 or 2 archers if you must;

    you will win 160 Barbarians, so the archers you lose are not replaced at all. But you will

    replace the 40 Barbarians and gain an additional 120. Hope you have enough space for

    barracks. If not, give them to one of your clan members to protect his/her village and gain

    experience points.

    There are excellent sources for finding strategies for nearly every level and purpose. The first is

    on SuperCells forum.The second is on the Clash of Clans wiki site.

  • The third source has been introduced by a high-level player, which includes videos for those who

    learn better by seeing things in action. When you reach higher levels, Edepots guides and

    strategies are superb; his video examples are also easy to follow. For Attack strategies submitted

    by other players, the list is currently up to 2 pages.

    If you want to know what your best bet is for barracks and unit distribution as you prepare to

    raid, there is a tool that allows you to enter specific data.

    Known Glitches

    As with any eGame especially one that is updating and expanding

    there are plenty of glitches to be expected.

    Rather than listing complaints, the following glitches have been

    announced by the producer--- according to the posts from SuperSteve @

    SuperCell.

    Unsupported Devices

    The following devices have had difficulties in accessing the game. Point to note, this issue may

    continue for some of them unless they meet the minimum specs. Some of the problems have,

    however, been addressed and others will be fixed when the Asian market opens.

  • Case of Lost Villages

    One of the issues that became apparent after Christmas 2012 involved the case of lost villages.

    After much head scratching by top IT specialists, it became apparent that the problem was due to

    people getting new phones.

    The fix: Connect your village to Game Center before you change phones! When you get your

    new phone or device, re-install Clash of Clans. Once you launch it, you will get a pop-up

    window asking if you want to load your old village or start a new one.

    This is worth repeating: If you havent already created a Game Center account, do so before

    you lose your game to a watery cell phone death-- or the surprise birthday gift in the form of a

    new phone. That done, locate the app marked Game Center on your mobile, login and launch

    the game from that location. When you exit the game, it will save the most recent data to your

    Game Center.

    Tips from Top Players

    The following are tips from the leagues top players and some professional players. We have

    tried to cover a variety of topics that slow a lot of players down, as they try to Rank.

    Attack Abandoned Bases

    This tip from Addicted is excellent; you probably wont find more

    than one abandoned base per day but what you can recover in loot

    and experience opens your eyes to the potential.

    WithouttheSarcasm adds:

    Look for tombstones. Someone else has drilled here, traps have been

    sprung or less likely chiefs had put them out to lure the unwary in.

  • Another key giveaway is to find all the builders in the village asleep. Remember, builders will

    not defend the village. Theyll just snooze on!

    Check out the Gold Mine Bin the one to the right of the cart that is in the mouth of the mine. If

    you are looking at a level 6 or higher TH village and the bin is full, the chances that the village is

    abandoned are very good. All that gold just waiting for you to grab. Nice.

    Troop Upgrading

    While we discussed the strategy of comparing loot gained to troops lost at the end of a campaign

    - and stressed the importance of weighing that before you charge it is still important to upgrade

    your troops past level one.

    Every troop unit takes up a certain amount of barracks/castle space. Receiving 160 Barbarians,

    instead 2 Giants may take up all the space your friend has available; they are useless in higher-

    level raids.

    Remember, when you are in teams or multiplayer campaigns, it is important to give away troops

    to other clan members, every now and then. If all you have to share with them are Barbarians and

    Archers, they may decide to leave your clan and find a new home where their needs are

    respected.

    Beware Approach with Caution!

    Why would any player of Clash of Clans even want a cheat or hack in the first place? This is a

    casual, social game of strategy where there is no real world money at risk. There are no

    professional players or competitions. With the time limits attached and the replays limited, by the

    time a cheat could work which they cant your time would be up.

    The only people that benefits from any of the claims is those that gain

    access to your computer, gets you to pay them money for their sure

    fire thingee, and the people that they sell your information to. Now,

  • some hacker has the ability to steal your passwords and your money. Oh, you didnt think they

    would sell your personal info? Right.

    Reasons Not to Use Cheats and Hacks

    Cheats and Hacks are methods of cheating the game to gain levels faster. The ads and claims are

    deliberately made to target young and newbie players who cannot wait around to increase gems

    or to buy more resources. These campaigns also target those that cannot purchase gems in real

    money.

    If they are free, they are usually stuffed with tracking keys, stuffed with Trojans,

    Worms, Malware or other codes designed to steal other players account information or

    steal game codes.

    The extra codes can disable your mobile device permanently and infect your Clan

    members devices when they try to join you. A few years ago, one cheat that held a

    stealth code shut down Sony games for months and managed to worm their way into

    bank accounts around the world.

    You place yourself in jeopardy of being permanently banned from any of the SuperCells

    games. When you get banned by the developer, your IP address is banned not just your

    email address. Regardless of how many new emails you attempt to use to regain access to

    the game, you will find that you cannot open the downloaded game.

    Since most hacks and cheats are based on glitches in the system, they are known to the

    producer and in the process of being fixed; once fixed, the cheat/hack is not going to

    work. As a matter of fact, any hack will be unusable after any update, upgrade or fix to

    the system --even if that hack was not using the glitch fixed. The reason is simple: code

    protocols are rearranged in order to generate the repair.

    Why Hacks and Cheats Cannot Work

    Hacks, such as the one example below, cannot work because the game is designed to constantly

    refresh and update any changes in your progress. When it comes across a piece of code that

  • changes your status drastically, the code is rerouted to a dumpsite because it is not in sync with

    the rest of the program.

    This is what coders learned to do after the Sony disaster.
