Would you like to live in a different country permanently?
Introduction
Today, globalization has done much easier for people to transport
themselves to different places; this implies they can move more
easily from their homeland to another place, whether to live
permanently or temporarily. The nature of the reasons why someone
may decide to live abroad permanently is very variable: economic,
emotional, spiritual, of healthcare, etc.
The following analysis of it will be based on me put on that
situation. That is, would I like to live abroad permanently? Why? In
order to explore this issue a comparison of the pros and cons of
living permanently abroad may be useful.
Pros Cons
Economic Better opportunitiesof getting a good
income or job.
Variety of jobs
The cost of livingmay be too expensive
and, due to
nationalism, job
opportunities may be
limited.
Environment New landscapes,
different climates,
wildlife, enrichingsights.
Pollution, insecurity,
unknown places that
may be difficult toget through.

environment.
Social/Cultural Opening the mind to
different cultures and
societies.
Enriching knowledgeand social skills.
Knowing different
lifestyles, food,
traditions.
It may result hard to
adapt oneself to a
new culture and
different manners.Language may be a
difficulty.
Relationships could
be difficult to
manage, as people
behave different to
that one is used to.
Technology/science There may be muchmore technology and,
therefore, more
opportunities to
progress and expand
my business.
Science findings may
be better exploited,
so one can take
advantage and profit
of it.
Becoming toodependent to it.
Education Much higher level of
education, better
opportunities of
getting a good job
due to the
qualifications got
there.
Learning problems
due to the language
might be required.
Public order There may be less
problems related to
crime, vandalism,
terrorism, etc. So one
can make much more

progress on anything
one needs to.
War If there was a war,
being part of a
technologicallydeveloped country
could be an
advantage, as there
are good chances of
winning.
There may be more
chances to be
disturbed by wars, aspowerful countries
are more likely to be
engaged on that sort
of affairs.
Conclusion
Finally, despite several negative aspects of my homeland, I would
never prefer to live permanently abroad, because, personally,
Colombia represents to me my family and personal history. Most of
my ancestors were from this magic land, their traditions and ancient
wisdom has been given to me tanks to the fact that they have lived
here. Most of what I am today I owe to this land and to the peoplerelated to it. So in order to preserve and for the enjoyment of future
generations, I am very happy to live here forever. The cultural
aspects of enrichment that can be derived from living abroad can be
exploited without the need of living permanently in a different
country. One can travel occasionally with certain purposes.
