We are pleased to send you the fall and winter Parks and Recreation Guide for 2018/2019. We have many new, exciting programs and events planned for you to enjoy this season. Once again, we will have the very popular Winter Wonderland light display at Congers Lake Memorial Park. Please browse this brochure and take the time to learn about all the recreational programs available to you this fall and winter.
Clarkstown remains committed to providing our residents with a variety of quality programs that are family friendly and of individual interest. As space can be limited for programs, please register early to ensure your place.

Registration will be accepted at the Administration Building - Zukor Park.Directions to Administration Building Zukor Park/Street Community Center, 31 Zukor Road, New City, NY 10956: Take Main Street in New City north, past the New City Library. Continue to first STOP sign. Continue straight, Zukor Road, Administration Building is first red brick building on left, across from Historical Society of Rockland County.
When you register for a program two weeks (or less) prior to the start date, THE FEE MUST BE PAID IN CASH or Credit Card.

Refund PolicyRefunds/credits for recreation programs will be processed upon request in accordance with the following policy:
Full refunds/credits will be issued for classes cancelled by the Recreation and Parks Commission. Full refunds/credits will be granted to individuals if it is prior to the start of class/activity, minus service fee for refunds. Refunds submitted after class has started will only be issued for medical reasons or if you have moved. A physician’s verification will be required in writing. The request must be made within seven (7) working days of the situation. No refunds will be granted after a program/activity has been completed. Credits will be good up to one (1) year from date issued. They will be void after that time period. A $25.00 service fee will be charged on all refund applications except those cancelled or closed by the Commission. A letter must be written to the Superintendent of Recreation and Parks explaining why a refund/credit is being requested.
Returned Check PolicyThere will be a charge of $20.00 on all checks returned by a bank. For example: insufficient funds, endorsement missing, endorsement not as drawn, wrong bank, signature, uncollected funds, account closed, payment stopped, post dated, foreign checks not marked “Payable in New York,” other.
Catching Up With the Times - The Clarkstown Recreation and Parks Department announces the streamlining of its registration process for all programs, passes and ID Cards. ALL Clarkstown residents MUST create an account on the CommunityPass website.
EVERY RESIDENT NEEDS A NEW CARD - AND ACCOUNT!CommunityPass is a secure site that the Town of Clarkstown is now using for program and facility registrations. Please follow the instructions below to set up your family account.
**If you already have a CommunityPass account from another organization or community, please use your existing username and password to log in and register to programs offered through this organization. You do not need to create a new account.**
1. From a computer with internet connection, GO TO: https://register.communitypass.net/clarkstown or go to www.clarkstown.org and go to town departments, recreation & parks, online registration.
2. Click on the blue box that says “Create an Account” on the left side of the screen.
3. Make up your own User Name (no spaces allowed) andPassword in the Log In information.
4. Scroll down and enter your Primary Account Information (The adult you want listed as the Head of the Household must be 18 or older) **Please make sure to put in your
mobile number and provider and check off the box to the right if you would like to receive alerts via text messaging.**
5. Click on the orange “CREATE” box.
6. Read Privacy Policy, Accept, and click on the orange “FINISH” box.
7. This should take you to the Main Page, click “VIEW ACCOUNT” on the bottom right.
8. Click “Add Adult” or “Add Child” on the top right *Any individual 18 and older is considered an Adult* *Anyone 18 or over must create their OWN HOUSEHOLD and prove their own residency* (any additional accounts must use a different primaryphone #) *Grandparents living in the home must also create their OWN SEPARATEHOUSEHOLD and prove their own residency*(any additional accounts must use a different primary phone #).
9. Put information in and when complete click the orange “Add Adult” or “Add Child” button at the bottom

Community Pass Comes to Clarkstown
Registration Dates& Online Information
Registration in Progress. Online registration will be available until 2 days prior to start of programunless otherwise noted. Call the Administration office for availability after that date.
• To register in all programs, proof of age (Birth Certificate/Drivers License) and residency are required three forms ofresidency are required, examples: valid NYS Driver’s Licenseand current utility bill of primary residence. Programs based ongrade must have report card to enroll. All registration is basedon grade entering in the fall of 2018.
• Refunds and/or make-up classes will not be issued for classescancelled due to inclement weather. To check for weathercancellations, please go to www.cancellations.com andlook for Clarkstown.
All residents must re-verify their address at the beginning of 2019. Don’t wait until summer when the lines are long!

Clarkstown Fishing Club Help kids and adults get hooked on fishing. The benefits of developing and
enhancing self-esteem to our youth and adults through fishing programs have priceless benefits to our community – promotes a nationwide effort to get more kids and adults outside and discover the fun and excitement of fishing. Bring your fishing rod and tackle box eachday to fish Congers Lake.

Outdoor Farmers MarketShop for produce, vegetables and more at the Clarkstown Farmers’ Market. We encourage residents to shop at the market located at the Traphagen property section of Germonds Road next to Germonds Pool. Clarkstown’s Farmers’ Market will be open rain or shine. This is your chance to get fresh and affordable produce while supporting the local farmers. Basketball Foul Shooting Contest Saturday, January 19, 2019 - 10:00 am at various gyms. Annual event for the whole family, ages 8 and up.

Family Campout at Congers Lake Memorial ParkOvernight Family Camp out: Includes traditional camping activities with a campfire.
Eligible: All families that are Clarkstown residents. Adults must be present to supervise any youth under 18. Beginner Sewing This class is suitable for those between the ages of 8 and 12. In this class students will learn how to work with a commercial sewing pattern. Guitar ClassWe base our method of music instruction on the knowledge that students learn best when they play the music they enjoy most. FOAM PATTERENED HAND PUPPETIn this class you will build a foam and rod patterned puppet in the “Muppet Style” of puppet making. Using a standard pattern as the base, you will construct a head with mouth plate, hands, arms and torso with arm rod controllers and learn the basics of covering the puppet in fabric, or with silicone skin. Adding eyes, ears, nose, hair and facial features will add the finishing touches that bring your creation to life and really give your puppet its character. Students will take home one professional puppet at the end of the program.

Group Lesson Program Description: We offer group ice skating lessons for all skill levels. This Basic Skills structured program teaches the fundamentals of the sport for recreational skating and is a prerequisite for hockey and figure skating programs. This eight-week course includes 25 minutes of instruction and 25 minutes of practice each week.
Classes: Age 4 & under - Parent and me, Age 4-5 – Snowplow Sam, Age 6 and above – Basic Skills, Adult Group Classes, Synchronized Team, Hockey skating skills, and Competitors Club. During session 2 and session 6 we offer an ice show rehearsal class. All children that sign up for this class, will participate in our ice show Tuesday, December 11th 6:15 – 8:15pm (session 3) & Thursday, June 21st 6:15 – 8:00pm (session 6)

Do you Geocach?Geocaching (pronounced “geo-cash”) involves someone hiding a box of trinkets and posting the coordinates of the box’s location on the internet, other people reference the coordinates and then go hunting for the trinkets. If you want to hide a cache in one of the Town’s parks you must submit an application that can be found on the Town’s website. This is a great hobby to get you into the great outdoors. CLASS 1: KUMIHIMO This a Japanese form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. Kumihimo is Japanese for “gathered threads”. CLASS 3: ORIGAMI Origami is the art of paper folding, which is often associated with Japanese culture. In modern usage, the word “origami” is used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Participants will learn how to make a crane, a flower, and other designs as time allows.Date/Time: Friday, January 25, 2019 7:00pm - 8:30pm
CLASS 4: VIKING WIRE WEAVING Viking wire weaving, also known as Trichinopoly, takes a simple piece of wire and transforms it into an intricate pulled chain that even beginning wire weavers can do. Participants will learn the technique, and pull their piece in group, and will get to keep the mandrel to continue their weaving at home. CLASS 6: PAINT YOUR OWN ILLUMINATION Illuminated manuscripts were documents that contained decorative images or initials mixed with text that were all drawn and painted by hand. Join Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann and Bill Madden of Suez Water NY for a leisurely hike along the shores of Lake DeForest Reservoir. Participants can choose between two guided hikes: one that heads north of the Freedom Causeway with beautiful views of Davies Apple Orchard and majestic Hook Mountain, or one that leads south of the Freedom Causeway through quiet woods along the picturesque shoreline. Participants will learn about the history and significance of this privately owned reservoir, a primary source of Rockland and north New Jersey’s drinking water.
