CLARK HIGH SCHOOL CLUBS & ORGANIZATIONS 2019-2020 Revised 1/13/2020 CLARK ACADEMIC WORLDQUEST The purpose of Academic WorldQuest is to educate all members of the club in matters of world affairs in order to prepare for the Nevada State Academic WorldQuest competition. Club meetings are held on Friday 2:15-2:45 pm in Room 402. Advisor: Mr. Snow CLARK AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY (ChemClub) ChemClub invites, motivates, and encourages high school students to explore the many ways that chemistry connects to their world. Supported by the American Chemical Society, ChemClub provides fun, authentic, and hands-on opportunities for members. Learn about study and career opportunities in the many and varied fields of chemistry. Meetings are on Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in Room 103. Advisor: Mr. Gillespie CLARK ARTS CLUB Clark High School Art Club is a creative and social outlet open to all CHS students. The focus is on small group activities and several community service projects throughout the school year. We also have a ukulele group, so play the ukulele in Arts Club. Meetings are Tuesdays 2:30 -3:45 pm in Room 711 CLARK BADMINTON Badminton Club offers students an opportunity to participate in an intramural sport that is both fun and competitive for all levels. Meetings are on Friday 2:30-4:30 pm in Cafeteria. Advisor: Mr. Tang, Cafeteria/Room 306 CLARK CHESS CLUB Chess club provides students a chance to improve their skills on the chess board in a fun a friendly environment. Anyone may come and play, regardless of skill level. There is also a chance to make the competitive team that plays against other high schools in the valley. Chess Club meets Tuesdays at 2:20-4:00 pm in P9. Advisor: Mr. Vigrass CLARK CHINESE CULTURAL CLUB Students promote interest in and educate other students about Chinese culture and provide ways to explore the inner depth of the culture, as well as enjoy involvement in the organization. Club meets every other Friday at 2:30-3:30 pm in Room 420. Advisor: Ms. Hunt CLARK CHINESE N.H.S. The purpose of the Chinese N.H.S. is to encourage advancement and achievement in learning Chinese, as well as encouraging members to become passionate life- long learners of the Chinese language. The organization is sponsored by the Chinese Teachers Association and is classified as a National Educational Honor Society in the study of high school Chinese. Meetings are every other Friday from 2:30-3:30 in Room 420. Advisor: Ms. Hunt CLARK CONNECTIONS CLUB Students have opportunities to build leadership skills, communication skills and make meaningful friendships with other Chargers who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. Students can make a real difference here in the Charger community. Meetings are on Tuesdays at 2:45- 3:30 pm in Room 234. Advisors: Ms. Guevara/Ms. Hibbetts CLARK DECA DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Meetings are every other Tuesday from 2:30-3:00 pm in Room 310. Advisors: Ms. Burns/Ms. Buono CLARK DRAMA CLUB & THESPIAN TROUPE 1932 The purpose of Thespian Troupe shall be the advancement of standards of excellence in theatre. More specifically, the troupe will encourage students to attain a better mastery of the theatre arts and will reward those who achieve it with induction into the troupe. Thespians achieving honor ranks and scholar distinctions shall receive recognition of their exemplary accomplishments. Meetings are open to everyone. Drama meets on Thursday & Thespians meet on Wednesday from 2:30-4:00 pm in the Theater Classroom. Advisor: Ms. Pennington CLARK EDUCATORS RISING The purpose is to offer students an opportunity to gain an awareness of careers in education and build foundational skills in communication, organization, team-building and cultural awareness, and time management. Members will also engage in community service and develop an understanding as to why this is important within a community. Meetings are Tuesday at 2:30-3:30 pm in Room 209. Advisors: Ms. Wagner/Ms. Walizer/ Ms. Bonar/Mr. Cooke CLARK FBLA Future Business Leaders of America, FBLA is the premier organization for students preparing for careers in business and is the largest student business organization in the world. FBLA prepares students for “real word” professional experiences. Members gain a competitive edge for college and career success. FBLA meets on every other Tuesday at 2:30-3:15 pm in Room 439. Advisor: Mr. Peterson/Ms. Buono CLARK FRENCH CLUB Students in French Club learn about French culture and language. Come join us as we celebrate all things French with music, movies and food. French Club meets on Tuesdays from 2:20-3:00 pm in Room 424. Advisor: Ms. Toll CLARK GUITAR CLUB Guitar Club strives to allow students to express themselves through their music and bring together players to start performing groups and bands. The group creates performance opportunities students would normally not be able experience. Students are also encouraged to join to practice after school. Club meetings are Monday 2:30-3:30 pm in Room 242. Advisors: Mr. Koenig/Mr. Boland CLARK HISTORY BEE & BOWL Students will gain an understanding of the context behind historical events and have an opportunity to compete in regional and national competitions. Club meetings are Thursday 2:30-3:15 pm in Room 229. Advisor: Dr. Robbins CLARK H.O.S.A Future Health Professionals is a competitive club for students interested in a future as a health professional. We participate in community service and school activities, but our main goal is to prepare for competitive events at the state and national level. Meetings are held every other Monday in the Library from 2:30-3:30 pm. Advisors: Ms. Saiki/Ms. Clarke CLARK JAPANESE N.H.S. The purpose of the Japanese National Honor Society is to promote interest in Japanese and to recognize high achievement in Japanese language and culture by students. Meetings will be held every other Friday 2:30-3:45 pm in Room 428. Advisors: Ms. Mata/Mr. Webster CLARK KEEN (Keeping Everyone’s Eyes on the Neighborhood) KEEN is a service club focused on making a difference within the Clark HS Community. KEEN students work towards establishing positive community relations through involvement in service activities to support the Clark neighborhood. KEEN meets on Thursday at 2:30- 4:00 pm in Room 209. Advisors: Mrs. Wagner/ Mr. Orr/Ms. Schaller CLARK KEY CLUB Key Club International is the oldest and largest service program in high school. As part of the Kiwanis International Family, Key Club members develop core values: caring, character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership. If you are interested in making a positive impact in your school and community through fun, dynamic, and spirited projects, then come join Clark Key Club! Key Club meets each Thursday in Room 200 at 2:30-3:30 pm. Advisors: Ms. Wong CLARK MATH LEAGUE CONTEST GROUP This group takes national math tests once a month for six months of the year. Since Clark began competing they have won first place in our regional area every year. Meetings are Tuesday at 2:20-3:15 pm in Room 429. Advisor: Ms. Vallin CLARK MOCK TRIAL Students in Mock Trial will have an opportunity to compete in mock trial competition sponsored by State Bar of Nevada, prepare attorney and witness testimonies related to assigned trial. Students meet Tuesdays from 2:30-4:00 pm thru December. As competition approaches in February an additional day per week will be added in January. Meetings are held in Room 316. Advisor: Mr. Stockley CLARK MODEL UNITED NATIONS The purpose of Model United Nations is to encourage student involvement and interest in world affairs, problems and comprehension of the spirit of communication. Meetings are on Monday from 2:30-3:30 pm in Portable 9. Advisor: Mr. Rehfeldt CLARK MU ALPHA THETA Mu Alpha Theta promotes the love of mathematics through competitions and provides math assistance to other students one-on-one with a student tutor. Members must compete in at least 3 competitions per year. Meet Tuesday & Thursday 2:30- 3:30 pm in Room 429. Advisors: Ms. Arquette/Ms. Vallin/Ms. Vallesteros CLARK NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY National Honor Society is a club dedicated to the four tenets of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a 3.5 unweighted GPA and an interest in community service are invited to join. NHS meets every other Monday in room 200 at 2:30-3:15pm. Advisors: Ms. Simental CLARK N.T.H.S. (National Technical Honor Society) Students who are members of a technical club (HOSA, DECA, FBLA, etc.) with an intention of going to state, and who maintain at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA are eligible to participate in NTHS. This group will focus on student achievement, leadership, scholarships and enhancing career opportunities. Meetings are every other Monday 2:20-2:35 pm in Room Library/101. Advisors: Mr. Payton/Mr. Leslie CLARK QUILL & SCROLL HONOR SOCIETY The Quill and Scroll Honor Society is a nationally recognized organization which promotes and furthers the goals of journalism. Membership is open to juniors and seniors who maintain a 3.0 GPA and above and participate in writing, designing, or publishing school media, such as the Charger Chant or Cavalcade yearbook. Meetings are on Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 in P7. Advisor: Ms. Teller CLARK SCIENCE BOWL Science Bowl is a high school and academic competition, similar to Quiz Bowl. Two teams of four students each compete to answer various science-related questions. Each year the winning team of each regional competition is invited to participate in the National Science Bowl in Washington, DC, all expenses paid. Science Bowl meets each Thursday in Room 126 at 2:30 pm. Advisor: Mr. Bean CLARK SCIENCE OLYMPIAD Science Olympiad is for the student who has a passion for science and a highly competitive spirit. Clark’s seven-time Nevada State Champions will compete in a host of scientific challenges ranging from forensic science to physics and anatomy. Meetings are every other Tuesday (and most other days) at 2:30- 3:30 pm in Room 127. Advisors: Mr. Miller/Ms. Miller/Mr. Viggato/Mr. Dehne/Mr. Tabish CLARK SKILLS USA The SkillsUSA Total Participation Plan (TPP) allows eligible students who are enrolled in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations, to participate in SkillsUSA as an integral part of their education. This plan focuses on delivering a full SkillsUSA program to all eligible students in a school or school district. Meetings are Thursday at 2:15-3:00 pm in Room 530. Advisor: Mr. Sylvester CLARK S.O.L. (Student Organization of Latinos) S.O.L. is all about promoting the Latino culture. If you love to explore your own, or different cultures, dance, volunteer, create/research, and help your peers learn to do the same, then SOL is the club for you. There is an hour-based volunteerism component associated with this club. Everyone is invited to join; regardless if you are Latino/a. Meetings are every other Friday at 2:30-3:30 pm in Portable 21. Advisor: Ms. Catarino CLARK SPANISH CLUB Spanish club is place for students to learn about and experience the language and cultures of Spanish-speaking people, Join us for all things Spanish including films, art, history, and food! Meetings are on ODD Tuesdays from 2:30-3:30 in Room 430. Advisor: Ms. Pardo CLARK STEAM CLUBS Science, Technology, Engineering, The Arts and Mathematics Coordinator: Ms. Vine CLARK STEAM Animation/Apps Members of the Digital Arts club create multimedia products or games utilizing a variety of skill sets, which may include programming, animation, writing, acting, photography, video-editing, drawing, as well as any other art medium. Members work on these projects individually or in groups, and will complete at least one major project that can be presented online or as a physically based, digital presentation. Group meets on ODD Mondays & Tuesdays from 2:15-3:15 pm in Room 436. Advisor: Dr. Kirk CLARK STEAM COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB Computer Science Club is for both the student who takes interest in coding and the student who wants to code competitively. Clark’s team will gladly teach newcomers and compete in an array of competitions throughout the year. Meetings are on Thursday from 2:30- 3:30 in Room 518. Advisor: Mr. Smedley CLARK STEAM Cyber Patriot Students will learn about computers and cybersecurity. Students will also prepare for US CyberPatriot competitions in school, state, and national levels. Meetings are on Thursday from 2:30-3:30 in Room 516. Advisor: Ms. Moran CLARK STEAM Grant Writing Students interested in writing grants to fund local STEAM school projects will participate in this program. CLARK STEAM – Robotics Clubs FRC/FIRST Robotics From beginners to experienced

builders, the Robotics Club has members with all levels of experience. We work to build a robot that is approximately 2 ½ feet at its base for competition in April. Meetings are Tuesday/Thursday 2:30-4:00 pm in P-11/P-12. Advisor: Ms. Field/Mr. Orr VEX Robotics The VEX Robotics Design System is an exciting platform for learning about areas spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The VEX teams work to engineer, program and drive robots for specific challenges in a competitive game. VEX meets Tuesdays & Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 pm in Room P12/P20. Advisors: Ms. Field/Mr. Orr

CLARK STEAM Rubik’s Cube From beginners to experts, the Rubik’s Cube Club welcomes students with all levels of experience. CLARK STEAM Science Fair/Engineering Design Club Students will work on scientific research projects from development to execution of the project with the intent that some projects be entered into local science fairs. Projects are also designed to encourage students to implement scientific and mathematical principles learned in the classroom, and to test engineering skills. CLARK UNION OF STUDENTS STUDYING RUSSIAN The purpose of the Clark Union of Students Studying Russian is to promote Slavic culture at Clark HS. Students will be able to view many forms of media produced in Slavic cultures. Students are not obligated to take Russian, but are encouraged to do so. CLARK VARSITY QUIZ Varsity Quiz is a form of quiz bowl played in the Clark County School District. Students from Clark HS compete against other schools in the district to win a televised championship. If you enjoy a broad range of trivia, this is the club for you! THE BREAKING ACADEMY BBOY CLUB Students will start to build a “vocabulary” of skills and dance moves. They will learn respect, self-discipline and gain confidence through dance.
