The Liget Centre – a protected

historic monument to European

modernism – is one of the

architectural highlights in the

service industry district of

Budapest and, since its pain-

staking restoration by Erick

van Egeraat Associated Archi-

tects in Rotterdam, the head-

quarters of one of the leading

insurance companies in Euro-

pe. The demands of the archi-

tects and those involved in

protecting historic monuments

were especially ambitious in

terms of both aesthetics and

design. In the view of the

lighting designers of Smits

van Burgst from Zoetermeer,

this was the ideal location for

the CLARIS lighting system.

This system impresses with its

strictly geometrical minimalist

expressiveness of form, confi-

dent lines and refined materi-

als which are all in perfect

harmony with space and archi-

tecture. Thanks to application-

oriented lighting technology, it

also offers the perfect solution

for various office lighting

tasks.

Materials, light, colours, shapes

and proportions all influence

the way the world in which we

live looks. The interplay of

these factors is also largely

responsible for the quality of

space and architecture. No

matter how important light is

as a factor in architectural de-

sign, the fact that luminaires

blend unobtrusively and harmo-

niously into their interior design

scheme is of equally decisive

importance. The CLARIS

product range was specially

designed as an architectural

lighting system and is an out-

standingly successful example

of an easily integratable lumi-

naire. Its design being mini-

malist and pared down to a

plain, strictly geometrical basic

shape, CLARIS is convincing

because of its slim, lean looks.

Its high-quality but discreet

materials – the housing is made

of aluminium in a sprayed tita-

nium colour finish – also help

CLARIS become an integral

part of its architectural setting.

Regardless whether a pendant

or surface-mounted luminaire

is chosen or whether it is fitted

with a pearl diffuser or wall-

washer optic, CLARIS always

stays unobtrusively in the back-

ground.
