Survey ClarifiedClarification Pertaining to SCASD High School Survey Methodology

    April 26, 2013

The SCASD school board contacted SSRS, the survey research firm, (April 26,

2013) and asked them to make very clear the answer to the question regardingwhether any survey responses would be discarded during the processing of thehigh school project survey.

SSRS was requested to ensure that they would NOT discard any responses inorder to acquire a demographically representative sample of the school districtresidents. SSRS was very clear that, no, they will not discard any responses. They will provide all the data from all respondents, and will also provide ananalysis that weights the responses in accordance with the demographics of thedistrict. For example (and these numbers are just for demonstration), if peopleages 18-34 make up 20% of the population but 30% of survey responses are

from this age group, then they would weigh the responses of people in that agegroup in accordance with their proportion of total residents.

SSRS expects about 1,300 responses, about 1,000 of which would be registeredvoters. There is no additional cost for responses up to 1,500, and above that thedistrict would pay a small surcharge. SSRS will not discard any responses, otherthan those that come after the survey process is completed.
