What is a Claim? Claim A statement that answers a question or states anopinion. (Yellow Highlighter!) Usually only a sentence or two. Example: Chinese Immigrants faced harshconditions in the United States. 4. What is Evidence? Evidence Data and facts that support a claim. (Green Highlighter) Example: Chinese Immigrants faced harshconditions in the United States. In 1877, a hugeriot in San Francisco resulted in the destruction ofChinese homes and businesses. Many Chinesewere hurt or killed. 5. Reasoning Reasoning A justification for why the evidence supports theclaim using scientific principles, data, or facts.
