Opting Out of Low High School Grades Earned in Middle School

Current Freshmen received a copy of their first high school transcript when presented with forecasting information in Feb-ruary. While many students were happy to see top grades in Algebra 1 and Spanish 1 from the middle school, not all students received those top grades. The district allows stu-dents to “opt out” of displaying those grades on their transcript, which will affect their cumula-tive high school grade point av-erage. If you wish to have those grades removed, send your stu-dents to see their counselor for an “opt out” form, which will re-quire a parent signature.

PSAT Exam Results

Sophomore students in World History or AP Human Geogra-phy classes received a copy of their PSAT score report and test booklet. If your sophomore is not taking one of those class-es this year, their PSAT scores may be in their counselor’s of-fice. All sophomores who are 4-year college bound should plan to take a PSAT again in October of the Junior year. Stu-dents who score in the highest percentiles Junior year could qualify for National Merit status!

Junior score sheets and test booklets are in the CAV Cen-ter and should be picked up as soon as possible, so juniors can review their results before taking the SAT this spring. Stu-dents can now connect the re-sults of their PSAT directly to the Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy to create a free personalized practice plan just for them, focusing on improving the specific skills that will help them do their absolute best on the SAT.

AP Testing

Exams will take place May 1-12 on our West Campus. Please refer to the 2017 Student/Par-ent bulletin for specific exam information. Students will need to bring: • Several sharpened #2 pen-

cils (with erasers)• Ballpoint pen with black or

dark blue ink

• Social Security #, not man-datory, but suggested

• A watch if you want to time yourself beyond viewing a room clock (no beepers)

• AP-authorized calculator for Biology, Calculus, Sta-tistics, Chemistry or Phys-ics (for a list of approved calculators go to: www.collegeboard.com/ap/stu-dents

• A valid student ID• A ruler or straightedge, if

you are taking the AP Phys-ics exam

Students should NOT bring:• Books, papers, correction

fluid, dictionaries, highlight-ers, notes, compasses, colored pencils or scratch paper, cell phones, pagers, MP3 players, personal digi-tal assistants, e-mail/mes-saging devices

• Watches with beepers or alarms or smartwatches

• Food or drink

Questions about the exams should be directed to Mr. Bridge-man (503.353.5810 x35821) or Mr. Kilfoil in the Counseling Of-fice (503.353.5810 x38098).

Students who sign up to take AP tests are required to attend a morning preregistration session the week of April 17 to complete identification information. Stu-dents who miss the preregistra-tion session will forfeit their op-portunity to test.

A NOTE FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE:

The weather is warming up. Time to get outside and exercise! Bike riding is a great way to get exercise and fresh air and share time as a family. But before you and the kids rush out and start pedaling, there’s an important factor that you need to consider —safety.

Helmet BasicsBicycle helmet use should not be optional for anyone in your family, no matter where you are or how short the ride. In Oregon, it’s the law. Many bike accidents involve a head injury, so a crash could mean permanent brain damage or death for someone who doesn’t wear one while riding. In fact, each year in the United States, about half a million kids are seriously injured in bicycle-related accidents, and most of those injuries could have been avoided if a helmet was worn. To protect against brain injury, make sure your kids wear a correctly fitting helmet on every ride.

Here are some things to keep in mind when buying a helmet:

● Pick bright colors or fluorescent colors that are visible to drivers and other cyclists.

● Look for a helmet that’s well ventilated.

● Make sure that the helmet has a CPSC or Snell sticker inside. These indicate that the helmet meets standards set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) or the Snell Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit group that tests helmet safety.

● Make sure your child’s helmet fits correctly and can be adjusted.

You should be able to get help finding a well-fitting helmet and adjusting it properly at any bicycle store. When kids wear a helmet, make sure that the straps are fastened. Also make sure they don’t wear any other hat underneath it.

Be sure to replace any helmet made before 1999. If your child hits any surface hard while wearing a helmet, replace it — hel-mets lose their capacity to absorb shock after taking serious hits.

Clackamas High School NewsletterNotes from the Nurse…..

As this will be my last chance to reach all parents, the following are important items to remember.

• Parents must pick up all medications at school. No medication will be sent home with students. Please pick up medications by June 23rd or they will be discarded. A new yearly medication form will be needed for the next school year and should be turned into the school office in fall. This form can be found on the Nurse’s website under Forms.

• All students who plan to play sports in high school are required to have a sports physical prior to participat-ing. These are good for two years. The sports physical form can be found on the Nurse’s website under Forms and through the school’s athletic department.

• Lastly, even though the sun has not been out much lately, it will be. Remember to use sunscreen with at least 15 SPF or higher. Make sure it is not expired so it will work. Apply it often and after swimming. Wear a hat, too.

• Have a healthy summer break!

· Cha mẹ phải tới trường nhận lại tất cả thuốc men.
