PAGBAG-O

Ara gihapon ang edipisyo sang Katedral, pareho man sang una, ugaling may mga ginbag-o man.

Gani,

“Come back home! There is room for everyone in our parish!”

*****Kag samtang ari ako sa ginatawag

“Sentimental Journey to the Past” ukon “An Attack of Nostalgia”, dapat ko man ipahayag nga ang kombento amo man gihapon pagkatapos sang 45 ka tuig.

Ano man na ang inyo Candle Light man…”Hearing these words from other

people made me feel sad. Not because of their feedbacks for Candle Light which I find helpful and constructive but because of the way it was said: “Ano man na ang inyo Candle Light man…”

I don’t think Mama Mary would be happy to know that some of us may not have the sense of ownership of the parish weekly publication dedicated to her. Thus, some of us can easily say, “…INYO Candle Light!”

It is my fervent prayer that we grow in our understanding that whatever pastoral activities we conduct in the parish, whatever evangelization programs we facilitate, it is not just the program or activity of a certain group of people but of everyone. We are all called to directly or indirectly participate as one Body of Christ.

The kind of Church we envision ourselves to be is an inclusive Church

Away diri, away didto! Amo ina kakitid ang dalan namon nga taga Tabuc Suba-Ilaya sang wala pa natukod

Napamatud-an gid man nga buhi ang aton Dios.

where everyone feels he/she belongs and that one is a stakeholder of our vision-mission which says, “WE, the children of God in the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria in Jaro…” What can be

more clear than the word ‘WE’ which in Hiligaynon, means ‘KITA’?

Our theme for the fiesta pilgrimage this year reminds us to set our minds and hearts in the

“ proper perspective or understanding too, “Kari, mapauli KITA sa aton Iloy”.

Sinners as we are, we are called to go back to Mary so that she may bring

us closer to her Son. No ‘holier than thou’ attitude, no ‘I’ and ‘you’ but ‘WE’. In the spirit of humility and solidarity, we strive to be united and help one another to be closer to Jesus and Mary for the betterment of ourselves, of our endeavors and of the Church and society in general.

The Gospel today on this National Bible Sunday speaks about Jesus’ call to discipleship. Who are called to follow Jesus? Not just the first apostles… not just me… not just you… not just them. But all of us! WE are called to follow Jesus. We are all called to follow Mary.

Kari, mapauli KITA sa aton Iloy! And let us altogether learn how to become authentic disciples of Jesus by following the example of Mary. Amen!

Quo Vadis Jaro Plaza?Vic G. Aguisanda

For many years now, the Jaro Plaza now known as the Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena Park has been used

as the venue for holding the “Jaro Agro Industrial Fair”, whereby what is supposed to be seen inside are products related to agricultural and industrial industries which the fair stands for. But every year, what the fair has to offer are the selling mostly of second hand clothes popularly known as “ukay-ukay”, rides, parlor games that accept bets, refreshments kiosks and karaoke/video sing along among others.

What is most deplorable is the fact that because there is no existing drainage, no garbage dump and cans, with one

small comfort room to be used by both the people occupying the stalls and the thousands of people going inside the fair, the result is unimaginable which makes whatever you think of the place to be is as good as mine. What would also add to the deplorable condition of the plaza, are the flooded portions when rains, comes much more, if the rain continues to fall for several days.

One can only view the damage caused by the holding of the fair, when the fiesta is over and only several more days after they are given an extension to stay wherein the plaza or the park looks like it had been struck by another Yolanda.

On the religious aspect, the different sounds from fair is causing a lot of noise, thereby disturbing and creating inconvenience during the holding of Novenas and Masses especially on Sunday afternoon. The sounds from the loud speakers are so loud that greatly distract the parishioners in their praying and meditating especially those who are outside the cathedral since it is already crowded in the inside especially on the fiesta day itself.

I quote these statement from “Heartbeats” column of Candle Light (Jan. 12-18, 2014), “that altogether then we convene and dialogue on how to celebrate Jaro Fiesta while maintaining the dignity of our plaza as a historical site and an honorable abode of our Blessed Mother, our Lady of Candles.”

Sometime last month, in the celebration of the birth anniversary of Dr. Graciano Lopez Jaena where his shrine is located inside the plaza, Iloilo Provincial Board Member, Demy Sonza, in his speech denounced the ukay-ukay and other kiosks selling all sorts of products surrounding the shrine. According to Sonza the vendors do not respect the sanctity of the shrine and is tantamount to desecration. The same “ukay-ukay” and other stall vendors are still the same group that are selling their wares inside the plaza probably even after the fiesta is over.

The residents and the parishioners of Jaro up to this day and time are still waiting and hoping, for the perennial problem of the plaza or the park to be solved, or a solution to be found.

Maybe a miracle could happen. But, sometimes it may happen only after we put our acts together. We need to have a round table discussion, with all sectors represented.

May our Lady of Candles, the Blessed Virgin Mother of God and our Mother, help us.

15 “O duta sang Zabulon, O duta sang Neftali,

Sa higad sang baybayon, Sa tabok sang Jordan, Galilea

sang mga Gentil! 16 Ang mga tawo nga yara sa

kadudolman Makakita sang daku nga

kapawa!

Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.

-Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Subong man, ginabantala ang

2. Q: Puede bala makahatag si Fr. Angostura sang mga ehemplo sang mga katungdanan sang mga laiko

bilang propeta, pari kag hari?a. Propeta: Katungdanan

The Grade III pupils of Jaro 1 Elementary School and Judith Lazarraga Tiongco

Memorial School flocked at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral for their First Communion last January 17, 2014, 9:00 am. It was a momentous event in the life of the children since they were receiving Jesus Christ for the first time.

Rev. Fr. Nathaniel G. Gentizon was the presider during the Holy Mass. In his message he said, “Occasion like this must be remembered throughout their lives as it is similar to the day of their birth and Baptism.” He stressed out three lessons: First, remember the day of your First Communion. Second, approach the Holy Eucharist with love and reverence as a family for there is an abundance of grace in this sacrament. And

third, children must be loved and respected and not to be taken advantage or abused. He extends his heartfelt gratitude to the teachers, parents and Catechists in behalf of the Parish Administration.

The Parish Catechists undertook the different

‘Always speak the truth,’ Villegas reminds social media practitionersMANILA, Jan. 23, 2014 – The

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)

president reminds media practitioners how the twin values of love and truth should be the powerhouse that motivates their work.

“Speak the truth, defend the truth, spread the truth always with love because when you put the truth and love together that is Jesus. Truth plus love equals Jesus. And if Jesus is here what is there to fear?,” Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas told a new group of social media practitioners called Areopagus Social Media for Asia last week.Winning enemies

Archbishop Villegas admitted, that in the Philippines, a country considered as one of the most dangerous countries for journalists, “standing by the truth

Unity is currently taking place. He described divisions among Christians as a scandal.

The Pope then explained that Christians from different denominations can learn from one another. What one community lacks, it can find in the other.

"Let's find joy as we recognize the different graces that God has given our fellow Christians. We receive the same Baptism from the Holy Spirit, who gives these graces. Let's recognize this and rejoice.”

Before concluding his general audience, the Pope also made an appeal for peace in Syria. On Wednesday an international Syrian Peace

Despite the rain about 13,000 people came out to greet Pope Francis during his weekly

general audience. To start things off, he chatted a bit with fellow Argentinian soccer fans and exchanged his papal hat, not once, but twice. He blessed several babies along the way, but one girl wasn't too excited about the whole experience.

During his catechesis, the Pope talked about ecumenism, especially since the Week of Prayer for Christian

Conference began in Switzerland. The Pope called on governments and civilians to vouch for reconciliation, instead of violence.

"May they see in one another not an enemy, not a competitor, but rather brothers and sisters to welcome and embrace.”

Usually, during this time of year the general audie nces are held indoors because of the cold weather. But to accommodate more pilgrims, so far all of them have taken place in St. Peter's Square. (Romereports.com)

8 Time Wasters Christians Should Avoid

Live your life to the fullest by avoiding these 8 time wasters:

l Anger. If allowed to take root, this could bring about unforgiveness, choking out your life and keeping you from the goodness of God.l Blame Game. Be bold and responsible. Take ownership of your life by being honest with yourself and allow God to work out the kinks.l Comparisons. Don’t be green with envy. Concentrate on the life that God has given you and make the most of it.l Complaining. Rather than magnifying the problem, try magnifying God with praise and

thanksgiving. If you can try focusing on what's going right, you will open the door for God to move mountains in your life.l Fear. When fear tries to rise up, remember what God says, "Fear not for I am with you. I will never leave nor forsake you."

l Guilt. Often times this is a case of an attitude of perfection that needs to be transformed to an attitude of humility. Human beings are fallible which is why they need a Savior.l Trying to Change Something You Can't. Only God can change a person's heart and bring about true transformation. While you can't control this directly, you can petition the Lord in prayer and make your request known to Him.l Worry. Worry is exhausting. It keeps your mind busy, but keeps you from making any progress.

all the time can win enemies [for people in media] because the devil does not like the truth.”

He rallied them, however, “to stand with the truth nevertheless beause in the end, all the evil of today will be defeated and only truth, which sets us free, will prevail.”

The value of truth, according to Archbishop Villegas, must be balanced with love.

Love + truth = Jesus “The other partner of truth is you

must always be filled with love. Truth is inspiring, but only love can redeem. Only love can save us from sin,” he added.

This “formula” of sorts, according to Villegas, can be seen in the life of Jesus Himself.

“[He] saved us, not only by telling us the truth about Himself and about the Father, He saved us by loving us and dying for us,” explained Villegas.

Lastly, he praised the valuable work of people in media who contribute a lot to “bringing the fragrance of Jesus into the order of society.”

“In the end, society becomes beautiful not because of infrastructures that the eyes can see, but because of the invisible kingdom that we are building,” Villegas said in closing. (Nirva’ana Ella Delacruz)

10d. What does “taking possession of the parish” mean?

Are you a Disciple of God?Pureza D. Lacuesta

We cannot trust in our knowledge and intelligence alone. We cannot rely on riches and material things

and try to segregate ourselves because we have plenty of them-Mansions-wide tracts of land-expensive jewelries and other luxuries like cars, do no insure us of a happy and fruitful life.

Man lives not on bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of god. our Lord doesn’t want dissensions. he wants us to live an orderly and religious life. This is the reason why he gave Moses his Ten Commandments for us to follow and respect and spread from generation to generation. however, our proud and stubborn nature becomes so bothersome that he sent his only son, jesus to lead us personally and to make us worthy heirs of the kingdom of heaven.

The first thing Jesus did was to choose his disciples whom he trained as leaders for the implementation of god’s laws. Walking along the sea of galilee one day, he saw two fishermen casting their nets into the sea and they caught plenty of fish. They were Peter and Andrew. james and john, the sons of Zebedee joined them. They abandoned their boat and followed jesus.

jesus and his disciples towed all of syria and galilee and went to other places. They preached in the synagogue in public places – about the good News of salvation. jesus cured the sick-restored the dying of life – and gave hope to the downhearted. The people responded with joy. Filled with hope and a desire for us to become real heirs of the kingdom of heaven, he made the eight beatitudes as a guide and key to the gate of salvation (cf. Mt. 5, 1-12).

god calls his disciples the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

Let us be preachers by words and by deeds. We do not need to go up the rostrum and preach. We do not need to gather an audience and make a speech. We are preachers if we are good and kind to every person we meet, if we share and help the weak and the poor through our capacity. Let us preach everywhere by the clothes (especially women) we wear, the words we use, the behavior we show wherever we are, and the treatment we give to others.

Are you ready to be a disciple? smile and let’s go.

FIESTA 2014 LITURGICAL ACTIVITIES

ORDER OF THE PROCESSION

Can. 527 §1 states that “one who is promoted to exercise the pastoral care of a parish obtains this care and

is bound to exercise it from the moment he takes possession. §2 The local Ordinary or a priest delegated by him puts the parish priest into possession, in accordance with the procedure approved by particular law or by lawful custom. For a just reason, however, the same Ordinary can dispense from this procedure, in which case the communication of the dispensation to the parish replaces the taking of possession. §3 The local Ordinary is to determine the time within which the parish priest must take possession of the parish. If, in the absence of a lawful impediment, he has not taken possession within this time, the local Ordinary can declare the parish vacant.

The taking of possession marks the moment in which the parish priest assumes the exercise of the parochial office and thereby, the pastoral care of the parochial community. Thus, the parish priest lawfully exercises the rights and obligations that the office of parish priest implies.

The term “possession” no longer refers to the parish itself but to pastoral care, or more precisely to the office of parish priest. This must granted by competent authority and accomplished in the lawfully determined manner and time. The competent authority to grant it is the local ordinary, though he can delegate it to a priest. Regarding the manner of realizing it, the local ordinary, but not the delegated priest, can dispense with its observance where there is a just cause, such as illness, persecution, etc. In this case the notification of dispensation, which must be had in writing and be appropriately published substitutes for the taking of possession. Regarding the time in which the taking of possession must be accomplished, the local ordinary will so determine and will also be able to declare the parish vacant if not done in time and in the absence of a just impediment, the taking of possession is not accomplished. Otherwise there would be situation of uncertainty that could affect both the validity of some acts, such as, assistance at a marriage, administration of goods, etc. And the normal work of pastoral care.

As the legal representative and canonically responsible person for the administration of the property of the parish, the parish must take an oath of good and truthful performance and an exact and detailed inventory of the parochial patrimony must be made (c. 1283). As the one who exercises the office in the name of the Church, the parish priest must make the profession of faith according to the formula approved by the Apostolic See and the extension of the obligation of taking a special fidelity oath to the cases mentioned in c. 833, 5°-8°, among those included were the parish priest.

It will be very opportune to give the taking of possession a festive configuration and a special solemnity because it is a moment of special importance in the life of the parochial community. It is customarily be done in the parochial church with the greatest possible participation of the faithful during the celebration of the Mass, presided over, if possible, by the bishop and concelebrated by the new parish priest and by other priests of the neighbouring parishes.
