CL165/4 – Information Note 1 - November 2020
FAO’s Strategy for Private Sector Engagement 2021-2025
List of Active Engagements with the Private Sector
1. This Information Note 1 is presented in response to the request from the Joint Meeting
of the 129th Session of the Programme Committee and 183rd Session of the Finance
Committee as follows.
2. The Joint Meeting1 “welcomed Management’s commitment to increase transparency,
and stressed the need that all partnership documents, including its Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU), Letters of Intent or other forms of agreements be accessible
through the Connect Portal, and requested Management to provide a list of current
partnerships prior to the 165th Session of the Council”.
3. A list of current partnerships with the private sector, formalized through instruments
such as Memoranda of Understanding or Exchanges of Letters, is presented as shown
below in Table 1. Table 2 contains a list of lighter engagements with private sector
entities, which do not amount to formal partnerships. The latter include instances
where Letters of Intent have been signed recording an intention to explore possible
areas for collaboration without establishing hard commitments for any of the
participants.
4. As explained in the document CL165/4 Rev.1, an explicit reference is now provided
in the Strategy that full disclosure of partnership agreements and associated
documentation will be ensured and made accessible to FAO personnel and Members
through the “CONNECT” Portal2.
5. While the full development of the CONNECT Portal will take the major part of 2021,
the online repository function of the portal is expected to be ready by the second
quarter of 2021 and the full texts of partnership agreements will be accessible to FAO
Members.
6. While newly revised templates include a requirement to publish on the FAO internet,
previous texts established a requirement of prior consent on all parties prior to public
disclosure. Consequently, the process of seeking and obtaining that consent would
need to be initiated prior to publication of earlier texts.
