CJMS INTO THE WOODS JR. Audition Packet
The first round of auditions for Into the Woods JR. will be held on Tuesday, February 10, Thursday,
February 12, and Tuesday, February 17. Performers may be called back for an additional audition on
Wednesday, February 18 and/or Thursday, February 19.
In order to audition for the show, performers MUST prepare the following checklist:
1. Sign up for ONE audition slot at the following CJMS Into the Woods JR. audition website:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c094eacad2daaff2-into
2. Choose a character you would like to audition for and prepare BOTH the script AND song for
character. The list of characters, their descriptions, and their song choices can be found at the “Into
the Woods JR. Audition Central” website below. The site also includes full scripts and musical
scores that are needed to prepare for the audition.

3. Complete the Into the Woods JR. Audition Form (both sides) and have it ready to turn in at the
time of your appointed audition.
About the Audition Process
Auditions Day 1 (Turn the page for other important audition information.)
1. Complete the audition form and be ready to submit the completed form during your audition.
Make sure to print song scores and sides for your character (see #2 and #3) and bring them to your
audition. Copies of scores and sides will not be available.
2. Please prepare one song from the show. Use the “Into the Woods JR. Audition Central” website to
determine which song is appropriate to prepare.
Helpful Hints: Keep your mind open. Girls might play boy roles. We’re looking for actors who can
sing. Don’t forget to think about the words you are singing and act them out. Who are you singing
to? Why? Make it believable.
3. Prepare one scene from the show. Choose your character and memorize his/her lines.
These short excerpts from the show are called “sides.” All of the “sides” we will be using for your
audition and callbacks are available from the “Into the Woods JR. Audition Central” website
mentioned above. If the character you would like to audition for does not have a scene listed, or if
you are not sure which part you would like to audition for, choose any other scene you like.
Helpful Hints: Don’t forget, acting is more than memorizing. Become the character and make some
interesting choices for how you are going to deliver the lines. How does your character walk? Talk?
Think about your scene partner. What do you want from him/her? What does your character want
to accomplish in the scene?
Audition Day 2: (Callbacks)
For callbacks, we will be working with the same songs and scenes used during Day 1. This time, the
directors will ask you to look at a specific role or roles you may be considered for. Learn the songs and
scenes for the part you are called back for and be ready to perform them. You never know what the
director is thinking. You might be called back for one role and end up with a totally different one.
Navigating the website for Into the Woods JR. Audition Central
Go to http://broadwayjr.com/audition/auditionlist.asp?ID=000189 to view a list of characters. The
website includes the following information:
BREAKDOWN: Includes a description of the character and the vocal range needed to sing the
songs.
Please note: Characters with non-singing roles may still be asked to sing on company/ensemble
songs. For this reason, even if you are auditioning for a non-singing role, please prepare a song.
SCRIPT: Includes the audition “sides.”
Some characters may have more than one side. Select a side for your character and memorize
the lines. Bring a copy of the side you are preparing to the audition. Copies of sides will not be
provided.
Please note: You may be asked to read another side. If this happens, a copy of the side script
will be given to you.
SCORE: Includes the score (music) for the song(s) required for each character.
To prepare the song for your audition, download an instrumental track from the website
below. The track numbers do not always match with what is written on the score, so please go
by the song titles. If the character you are auditioning for does not have a song, please select
and prepare any song you wish.

Helpful Hints: Because the files are instrumental tracks, there are no vocals. If you are not sure
how the song goes, consider searching for the song on Youtube so that you have an idea of
how the melody goes.
Please note: During your audition, you will be asked to sing the song a cappella (without a
backing track) and with the instrumental track.
Important message for students auditioning for the role of the WOLF:
On the “Into the Woods JR. Audition Central” website, even though there is no song indicated for the
part, please prepare the song “Hello, Little Girl.” The score (music) to the song can be found on the
following pages of this document. An instrumental track can be found at the website below:
