University presented many fresh challenges, some more extreme than others. However on going through out my studies was the challenge of balancing my course with extracurricular activities. Alongside my studies I represented the university in ski racing for 4 years, captaining the team for 1 year and also gaining full club & team colours from the University alongside my degree. Working to strike a balance between the two has increased my ability to respond positively to pressure and challenges, and demonstrate flexibility and the ability to quickly prioritise objectives and adapt to unpredictable situations either as an individual or as part of a wider team. The process required a high level of 3-D design skill; in depth research into composite structures; a deep understanding of the forces encountered during the operation & potential failure of the vehicle, acquired through both research and carefully designed testing. Throughout the design phase, In- depth FEA analysis was imperative in material selection and design optimisation. I personally organised and was responsible for taking 35 Ski and Snowboarders to Edinburgh in November 2013 for the weekend to compete in the National Dry Slope Championships. I have also worked as part of a larger team to organise the Sheffield Universities winter varsity (January 2014), we went abroad for the first time in the events history. We took 400 Students to Alpe D'Huez and this involved working closely with large corporations such as: NUCO Travel , ESF (Ecole du Ski Francais) and Red Bull, who sponsored the event. It was a huge commitment to take, but by working as a team, through structured objectives we managed to have a hugely successful trip.

InterestsEngineering

I have had a thirst to know how things work from a young age. This curiosity has since turned into a desire to know how things and processes can be improved. University has enabled me to channel this curiosity into a field that excites me, allowing me to learn the theories to properly understand what is needed to be successful in my endeavours. Although I greatly enjoyed the academic side of my course, my real passion is transferring these skills into tangible results.

The laboratories undertaken in my University career, as well as heightening my interest in engineering ,have also taught me to be thorough in my investigations so that accurate results can be collated from the data recorded.

Sport & Leisure Playing rugby from a young age has helped me to thrive in a demanding team environment

and to be determined in my goals. Other skills that are imperative in Rugby are leadership and communication, both of which can be easily transferred into a working environment to great effect.

Ski racing has furthered my self-discipline to be precise in the execution of a task, whilst also being able to critically analyse performances and improve from mistakes in training.
