OU R VISION IS SIMPLE:

to produce the finest wines of Hawke’s Bay

Welcome to Pask WineryThe home of Pask and kate radburnd wines. With stony soils, flowing rivers and plentiful sunshine, Hawke’s Bay is one of New Zealand’s most beautiful and bountiful regions.

Crop dressing pilot Chris Pask spent over 25 years in the air above the Bay. From his vantage point high above, he identified an area of farmland he thought would be ideal for winegrowing; Gimblett Road.

In 1981 he planted the first vines at Gimblett Road, on the stony soils of the old Ngaruroro riverbed.

This region has since become known as the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district and now enjoys a global reputation for excellence.

The very first vintage of 1985 Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded 5 stars in Cuisine magazine. Since then Pask wines have consistently enjoyed gold medal and trophy success in London, Australia, Asia, the United States, Canada and New Zealand - across a range of varietals and wine styles.

Our winery and vineyards are Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand accredited, verifying our commitment to sustainable practices and the environment.

At Pask our vision is simple: to produce the finest wines of Hawke’s Bay. We invite you to enjoy them with us.

Over 4000 hectares of wine producing grapes are grown here with the largest planting of red grape varieties in New Zealand and the second largest number of plantings overall.

Gimblett Gravels; our place in Hawke’s Bay Located on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island, Hawke’s Bay is one of the hottest and sunniest areas of the country. With 2,297 annual sunshine hours, moderate rainfall and a warm maritime climate providing a long, temperate growing season, the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district is unique.

The gravely, free draining and low fertility soils are ideal for viticulture. Sheltered from the prevailing winds by local landmark Roy’s Hill, our ninety hectares of Gimblett Road Vineyards are often 3ºc warmer during the day compared to other Hawke’s Bay sites. Wines of exceptional quality can be produced under these conditions - intense in flavour and rich in texture.

Merlot has an excellent natural aptitude to our vineyard microclimate and is our most widely planted variety. It is supported by significant plantings of Chardonnay, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chris Pask, founder of Gimblett Road winegrowing Flying over the arid Hawke’s Bay region for more than a quarter of a century, top-dressing pilot Chris Pask had the perfect vantage point to find the ideal spot to plant vines.

In 1981 he planted a range of grapes in the barren land on Gimblett Road.

Early vintages were highly acclaimed, with the 1985 Cabernet Sauvignon pronounced ‘New Zealand’s Best Red’ by Cuisine Magazine.

Today the Gimblett Gravels wine growing district now enjoys a global reputation for excellence of its wines.

Chris Pask has been credited as founding one of New Zealand’s leading wine regions.
