description

Battles 1. A battle is not a war. A war is not a battle. A battle is a smaller, localized fight within a war. A war is longer and usually consists of multiple battles). 2. Just to make life more confusing for you as future students of history - or, more likely, just because the two sides kind of despised each other, the two sides used a different system for naming battles: a. The North named battles by the body of water that they were fought near b. The South named battles by the town they were were fought in/near c. This is why some battles have two names (Manassas/Bull Run, Antietam/Sharpsburg, etc.)

Photography

The Civil War is the first American war that we have a lot of photos from - in theory, a real moment can be captured.

Even though Photoshop didn’t exist yet, photos still weren’t 100% accurate. Photographers sometimes staged soldiers, bodies, etc.

Conditions

Try to always remember the Union war strategy and how that will affect the South. Supplying their soldiers will be a struggle for the South all through the war.
