Services offered: Oil & Gas Civicon is the preferred EPC contractor in the region. Our speciality runs for over 30 years as we have continually developed our expertise in this industry with particular emphasis on the installation of pipe work, pumps and valves, heat exchanger vessels, fuel terminals and tank farms, construction of oil pads and other related drilling, refinery and marketing activities in the oil sector. We have undertaken work for all the major oil and gas operators in East Africa, including the Shell operated refinery in Mombasa and are currently working with Total E&P Uganda in their Ugandan oil fields. We are, of course, fully conversant with all the fuel company safety policies and because of our own internal safety procedures we are able to comply with such requirements as a matter of course in the execution of our work. Civicon has built fuel storage tanks ranging from 10m3 to 15,000m3 including complete turnkey tank farm projects. In addition to our oil industry work, we also undertake the erection of warehouses and modular buildings plus general plant and factory installation. Our Mombasa workshop has the facilities for the design and construction of specialised heavy trailers, many of which are in use in our transport operation. This ability to build our own tailor made trailers has proved invaluable in the growth of our transport business because often “off the shelf” trailers are not suitable for the job. We also have heavy lift facilities either utilizing our numerous cranes, or alternatively by skidding and jacking. Our speciality is the ability to formulate well designed and carefully thought out schemes; where alternate design concepts are explored and integrated into the clients requirements. This ability to think outside the box and supply innovative solutions to complex problems is a speciality of Civicon. This

Oil & Gas

Civicon is the preferred EPC contractor in the region.

This concept is well appreciated by many of our clients and the rapport developed between the client and Civicon means that clients tend to return again and again, as can be seen from our company profile. In some instances where complex lifts are involved; the client uses Civicon as a nominated sub contractor; where overseas suppliers are then required to use us.

Power

Kenya currently has a power capacity deficit whereby at peak demand there is insufficient supply to meet consumer demand. The Kenyan government and the private sector have embarked on an ambitious programme to scale up installed capacity in the country to about 2000MW in the interim.

Civicon has worked with both public and private sector players (IPPs) on various projects and has over the years gained valuable expertise with EPC projects. We have demonstrated the capacity to deliver projects often in remote areas with little or no infrastructure.

We are active in both the power generation as well as power transmission and distribution as evidenced by the many projects we have undertaken building geothermal plants, thermal plants, substations and transmission networks.

Some of our clients include:

Ormat (NYSE:ORA), a NYSE listed company engaged in the generation of geothermal power in the Olkaria basin.

Wartsila Development & Financial Services Inc, an IPP operating the Kipevu II and Kipevu III power projects in Mombasa.

Kengen (NSE: KEGN), a public listed entity and the major power producer in Kenya, Eburru Geothermal Power Station with a generating capacity of 2.3MW, an EPC project.

Rabai Power Ltd, an IPP operating a thermal power plant with a capacity of 90MW in the Kenyan coast.

Industrial Installations

Civicon’s crane and transport resources and mechanical / civil engineering capabilities make us a natural choice in various industries to install devices, systems or pieces of equipment for various industries particularly where that industry’s requirements include large out of gauge steel tanks.

Specialised Transport

Civicon has been a leader in transportation in the region for decades. Our entry into the industry started in 1985 when established transport companies would not transport food aid across Ethiopia so Civicon with characteristic “can do” attitude set about resolving this problem for leading aid agencies. Our off & on road trucks, cranage capacity, in house capacity for design and manufacture of specialized trailers (Civicon’s transport division is able to offer transport solutions for a wide variety of cargo up to 100 tons) soon established us as the leading out of gauge / specialized transporters taking on projects like:

1. Food aid projects with Catholic Relief Services, WFP & Lutheran World Federation2. The transportation of an entire copper factory 5,480Km 3. Transportation of tanks for breweries 4. Transportation of drill rigs

To accomplish these projects Civicon extensive fleet of trucks, trailers, cranes, specialized trailer design & fabrication facilities are only part of the reason for their success. Highly experienced and qualified personnel, logistical backup in several countries and a solutions driven approach to our work is what distinguishes us from the pack.
