CITY OF UMATILLA CITY MANAGER RECRUITMENT

The City of Umatilla would like to invite you to an open house on September 13,

2018 at 6PM to introduce the final candidates. This will provide the general

public an opportunity to ask questions or make comments.

BURN PERMITS In October the burning season will reopen. Permits are required and available

at City Hall as well as the Police Department and Fire Department, and online.

Still, it is important to know that burning of many common materials is still

prohibited. These include:

Plastics of any kind

Rubber components, tires, asphalt shingles, garbage bags

Household garbage containing plastics, rubber or synthetics

Wet or slow burning debris

Any material that produces dense smoke

Any material that produces noxious odors Burning of any commercial waste is prohibited. For further information on

ACESSORY DWELLING UNITS Planning Commission and Council approved new

standards for Accessory Dwelling Units which

became law during the 2017 legislative session. You

may see a second (small) unit pop up in your

neighborhood sometime soon. If you have questions

please come in and visit City Planner Brandon Seitz.

FAREWELL MATTHEW TSUI Matthew Tsui, RARE Volunteer for the past two years, is wrapping

up his days at City Hall. He has developed a digital (GIS) layer of city

sewer and water infrastructure and he has put together maps for a

comprehensive trail plan. The Parks & Recreation Committee

reviewed the final set of maps on August 14th. The next step is to

put the maps and the plan together. Please join us for the Parks

and Recreation Committee meetings which are held on the second

Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm, City Hall.

COLUMBIA RIVER HEALTH Columbia River Health will be hosting a meet and greet at City Hall on September 20th to introduce their services to

the community of Umatilla. CRH is working with Catherine Putnum of Carlson’s Umatilla Drug to bring her pharmacy

into the CRH family later this

year. They have also recently

purchased property in Umatilla

where a medical clinic will be

constructed in the future.

DESTINATION MANAGEMENT PLAN The final Destination Management Plan was presented at a workshop on July 26th at the Umatilla Chamber Office.

City and Chamber staff are now working together to implement many of the recommendations. The Plan will be

posted soon on the Chamber and City website. Tourism is a valuable industry for city economic development.

I-82 OVERPASS ARTWORK Oregon Department of Transportation is a great

partner. They have offered to allow City to place

artwork on the new I-82 overpass. Council will

be considering designs at their September 4th

meeting. ODOT has also agreed to extend the

left hand turn lane on Highway 730 into McNary.

Even though that was not part of their 2017

improvement they have been responsive to City

request. ODOT is also taking a look at the

functionality of the River Road/Sixth Street

intersection and working with City to make some

landscaping improvements at that gateway.

UMATILLA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE & VISITOR’S CENTER

The Chamber will be hosting a member appreciation BBQ on Wednesday,

September 19, 2018 at the Chamber office located at 100 Cline Avenue,

Umatilla, OR 97882 from 3PM to 5PM. They are requesting current members

LITTLE LIBRARIES Little Libraries were installed at Nugent Park in downtown and at Kiwanis Park in McNary.

Umatilla High School students proposed the project and are responsible for the

installation and maintenance. What a great service to their community!

UMATILLA HERITAGE GOLF TOURNAMENT The Umatilla Alumni Association and the Umatilla Museum and Historical Foundation would like to invite you to the

Umatilla Heritage four-person scramble golf tournament. The event is being held on Saturday, September 22nd at Big

River Golf Course in Umatilla. Registration will begin at 8AM and Tee-Off will be at 9AM.

There are several opportunities for sponsorships and donations to help raise money for both organizations. Sponsor a

hole for $100 and they will post a sign recognizing the individual or the business sponsorship. Get a team together to

play in the tournament for $200. Combine a hole and a golf team for only $275. Go big as a corporate sponsor for

$500, which includes a hole sponsorship, team entry fee and they will hang your banner (provided by the sponsor) at

the event. They are also looking for raffle prize donations such as, gift cards, products, or service vouchers.

High School for only $100. A special recognition gift will be given to

the class year with the highest number of participants (includes

sponsors and team members).

The Umatilla Alumni Association and the Umatilla Museum and

and all proceeds will be split between the two equally. Receipts will

MAYOR’S MESSAGE Hello Umatilla! I would personally like to take the time to welcome our newest community members to the McNary Area (Virginia’s Place). It is exciting to see new faces in our community. As the weather starts to cool off, it is a welcoming sight to see families walking during the summer evenings in our community, enjoying the neighborly “hello” as they make their way through the streets. The friendly and inviting citizens are the foundation of the Umatilla Family. The Umatilla Museum hosted a “Wine and Cheese Tasting” event to build community support. I had the honor of attending this amazing event. Thank you to the volunteers for putting it together. The Museum volunteers have been working diligently on the different displays and remodeling the old police station to make it more welcoming to our residents. It is nice to see it revitalized. Your efforts have not gone un-noticed. There is a buzz in town about the improvements you have made and our community appreciates your dedication. Thank you. Families have been enjoying Friday evenings at the Marina Park with “Movies in the Park.” The City showed 3 different titles, and the event has been drawing a crowd of young people taking in the nice weather and enjoying some family friendly entertainment. I have been in Umatilla for over 20 years, and I can see a bright future for our community, rich with opportunity and growth. I feel the pendulum is swinging in the direction for growth and community engagement. As we go in to the election season, I encourage all of Umatilla to have a voice and vote. Umatilla is at a very pivotal point in our planning for the future, we need community input, community involvement and engagement. For the first time in recent years, we are planning for projects that will greatly impact our community. Increasing our Parks and Recreation projects, updating our infrastructure, and building new homes are the things that are bringing in new community members. It is an exciting time for Umatilla, and I personally invite all of you to become part of the process. Now, more than ever, is the opportunity for your voice to be heard. DESPEDIDA MATTHEW TSUI Matthew Tsui, voluntario RARE durante los últimos dos años, está

terminando sus días en el Ayuntamiento. Ha desarrollado una capa

digital (GIS) de alcantarillado de la ciudad e infraestructura de agua y

ha creado mapas para un plan de senderos integral. El Comité de

Parques y Recreación revisó el conjunto final de mapas el 14 de

agosto. El próximo paso es juntar los mapas y el plan. Por favor únase

a las reuniones del Comité de Parques y Recreación el segundo

martes de cada mes a las 6:30 PM., en el Ayuntamiento.

COLUMBIA RIVER HEALTH Columbia River Health ofrecerá un encuentro y saludo en el ayuntamiento el 20 de septiembre para presentar sus

ARTE DEL PUENTE SOBRE I-82

El Departamento de Transporte de Oregon es un gran socio. Han ofrecido permitir que la ciudad coloque obras de arte en el nuevo paso elevado I-82. El Consejo considerará los diseños en su reunión de septiembre. ODOT también acordó extender el carril de giro de la izquierda en la carretera 730 a McNary. Aunque eso no fue parte de su mejoramiento en 2017, han respondido a las solicitudes de la ciudad. ODOT también está observando la funcionalidad de la intersección de River Road / Sixth Street y trabajando con la ciudad para realizar algunas mejoras al paisajismo en esa entrada.

El evento se llevará a cabo el sábado 22 de septiembre en el campo de golf Big River en Umatilla. La inscripción comenzará a las 8AM y el primer golpe será a las 9AM. Hay varias oportunidades para patrocinios y donaciones para ayudar a recaudar dinero para ambas organizaciones. MENSAJE DEL ALCALDE Hola Umatilla! Personalmente, me gustaría tomar el tiempo para dar la bienvenida a los miembros más nuevos de nuestra comunidad al área de McNary (Virginia's Place). Es emocionante ver caras nuevas en nuestra comunidad. A medida que el clima comienza a refrescarse, es un espectáculo agradable ver a familias que caminan durante las noches de verano en nuestra comunidad, disfrutando del "hola" de los vecinos mientras recorren las calles. Los ciudadanos amigables y amables son la base de la Familia Umatilla. El Museo de Umatilla organizó un evento de "Catar de Vinos y Quesos" para desarrollar el apoyo de la comunidad. Tuve el honor de asistir a este increíble evento. Gracias a los voluntarios por poner todo junto. Los voluntarios del Museo han estado trabajando diligentemente en las diferentes exhibición y remodelando la antigua estación de policía para que sea más agradable para nuestros residentes. Es bueno verlo revitalizado. Sus esfuerzos no han pasado desapercibidos. Hay un gran revuelo en la ciudad acerca de los progresos que ha realizado y nuestra comunidad aprecia su dedicación. Gracias. Las familias han disfrutado los viernes por la noche en el Parque Marina con "Películas en el Parque". La ciudad mostró 3 títulos diferentes, y el evento ha atraído a una multitud de jóvenes que disfrutan del clima agradable y disfrutan de un entretenimiento familiar. He estado en Umatilla por más de 20 años y puedo ver un futuro brillante para nuestra comunidad, rico en oportunidades y crecimiento. Siento que el péndulo está girando en dirección al crecimiento y al compromiso de la comunidad. A medida que avanzamos en la temporada electoral, animo a todos en Umatilla a tener una voz y voten.
