On June 20th designers from
Play by Design, of Ithaca N.Y.,
met with children from the
City of Concordia & surround-
ing communities to conceptu-
alize a new design for our city
park.
The idea began in a Rotary
Club meeting this past April.
And was inspired by surround-
ing communities Miltonvale
and Clay Center.
“Prospective businesses are
not only looking for the right
economic fit, but also the right
fit for their employees and
families," McMillan said. "A
community-built playground
really showcases Concordia's
community attitude."
The group aims to raise
$150,000 by build week April
2014. To hire out
the cost to build the
playground that the
leaders are intending
on could cost $1
million so volunteers
will provide the man
-power to complete
it. Local citizens will
build the structure
over a period of 5
days.

Birthdays / Births 4
For the first time in Concor-
dia's history two women are
serving on the City Commis-
sion—Christy Hasch and
Marsha Wentz
The result of the 834 votes for
the spring General Election is
as follows:
Christy Hasch was the winner
with 510 votes, 37 percent of
votes.
Incumbent, Marsh Wentz fol-
lowed closely with 478 votes,
36 percent.
Retta Waite received 356 votes,
26 percent.
After the annual reorganization
of the City Commission on
April 17th, Hasch and Wentz
were sworn in for their three
year terms and Tim Parker was
declared mayor for the next
year. Wentz was elected to be
mayor pro tem in case Parker
was absent.
"I look forward to working
with the four of you and with
city staff," Hasch said.
Hasch took the place of Gary
Fraser, who did not pursue
reelection. Fraser accepted a
commemorative plaque for his
service.
"I've really enjoyed working
with the other Commissioners
and department heads," he
said.
1. Watermelon. With a fluid content
of 92%, this fruit is essential for keep-
ing hydration, one juicy bite at a time.
2. Cantaloupe. As far as nutrient con-
tent goes, this is your best bet--just
one cup yields over 100% of the daily
recommended value for vitamin C and
A.
3. Cucumbers. Its low caloric output
makes it an ideal food for dieters, con-
taining only 13 calories per cup.
4. Tomatoes. Although we're familiar
with its use in Italian cuisine, this food
is best eaten raw for its water-rich con-
tent, which accounts for 95% of its
mass.
5. Grapes. It's obvious this fruit is
packed with dehydration-busting fluids,
but what's not as obvious is its nutrient
content.
