CITY EDITION SEPTEMBER 2018 The Market Arcade on Hannan Street will be transformed for the month of September. The space will be set up with a lounge area, book exchange, yard games and pop up services. The Youth Strategic Action Plan will be available for you to read though and provide your ideas to drive its delivery. The plan is accessible and a month long public engagement space has been set up at the ideas exchange at the Market Arcade for community to familiarise themselves with the expectations. Open 8:00AM – 5:00PM Monday to Friday, Facebook/CKByouth. Having received conditional endorsement by Reconciliation Australia in August, the City is in the last stages of finalising its Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The submission of the RAP to Reconciliation Australia is the result of a two-year planning process with local stakeholders including the Goldfields Land and Sea Council and will improve opportunities for local people which in turn will result in a more prosperous future for the City. In finalising its RAP the City will join over 1,000 dedicated corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have formally committed to reconciliation through the RAP program since its inception in 2006. The aim of the RAP will be to formalise economic opportunities, build new business relationships, and develop events and community activities that will acknowledge and recognise respect and pride for Aboriginal culture and history. The Reflect RAP will provide the City with a roadmap to begin its reconciliation journey, laying the foundations for future RAPs and reconciliation initiatives. There are over 219kms of waste water pipes beneath our City, and when the pipes get blocked the waste water spills onto our streets.

The biggest offender of these overflows is caused by grease, fats and oils, whic are washed down the drain from houses and businesses. There have also been blockages caused by toys, phones and garden tools that have been flushed through the pipes.

You can play your part in preventing overflows by making sure you place food scraps and cooled cooking oils in the bin, and making sure household items are disposed of with your household waste or at the Yarri Road Refuse Facility.

For more info visit the City’s website at www.ckb.wa.gov.au/waste.
