AI. 2 Addition of SP to Grade List Add SP to the grade list: A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D, F, SP as possible grades. This should simply substitute SP for INC. ANTH 31001 Honors I ANTH 31002 Honors II ANTH 31003 Honors III ANTH 31004 Honors IV INTL 31001 Independent Study I INTL 31002 Independent Study II INTL 31003 Independent Study III INTL 31004 Independent Study IV INTL 32200 Senior essay in International Studies PSY 30100 Honors in Psychology I PSY 30200 Honors in Psychology II PSY 30300 Honors in Psychology III PSY 30400 Honors in Psychology IV WS 31001 Women’s Studies Independent Study I WS 31002 Women’s Studies Independent Study II WS 31003 Women’s Studies Independent Study III WS 31004 Women’s Studies Independent Study IV Rationale: A department can request that SP be added as a grading option for a thesis or independent study class where a student may be making satisfactory progress without completing the work in one semester. The SP grade does not count towards completion of the degree – but does not carry the stigma of an INC. This grade should be added to the standard letter grades (A+ to F). The goal is to substitute SP for INC.

Rationale: A number of faculty members have added new courses that we are giving waivers so that these electives can be counted towards the 11 required elective credits. This growing list of electives gives students more flexibility in their schedule. To enable us to add additional electives in the future without going through the Chancellor’s Report, we are adding a clause that new courses will be added as appropriate. *CHEM 33500 and CHEM 48200 were re-numbered to CHEM 43500 and CHEM 32002, respectively. MATH 20200 and MATH 20300 are being phased out and replaced with MATH 21200 and MATH 21300, respectively; the number of credits for MATH 20100 was changed to 4 credits. +A permanent course number is pending approval.

Description Costume Design is an introductory, hands-on course in the art and practice of developing costume designs for live theater productions. Consideration is given to understanding the costume needs as expressed in play scripts, the individuality of both characters and the actors who will wear the costume, materials, styles, and the steps in the design-to-costume construction process. No previous drawing or costume construction experience is necessary. Individual opportunities will be tailored to students with higher levels of proficiency

Rationale This class which was formerly offered as a 3-hour class on one day has now been split into two sessions on two days to conform to the department’s usual pattern. It also needs to conform to “studio class protocol,” as is usual for art and design classes. There should be enough time for set up and clean up which an hour and 15 minutes does not provide. The added class hour will make it feasible to break the class up into two days and maintain a reasonable level of studio class protocol as well.

Rationale The name change for this course is necessary in order to help students recognize the sequence of courses more easily. We are bringing back an upper level course in Playwriting, so a numbered sequence makes more sense. Also, in an effort to open this course up to a larger portion of the college’s student body, we approve removing the requirement that students must have instructor’s approval in order to take this course.

Description

An examination of principles that underlie curriculum development; planning appropriate goals, sequencing content, and implementing teaching/learning strategies. An important goal of the course is to help students develop skills in developing and offering differentiated instruction and integrating technology into learning experiences. Includes 10-15 hours of fieldwork at the 1-3 or 4-6 grade levels. 3 hr./wk.

Description Same

Rationale

This required course was modified to meet the needs of graduate candidates in childhood education (grades 1-6) by providing them with one course on curriculum development. This course was once the second course in the sequence of two curriculum development courses. When we needed to reconfigure a course (EDCE 2900F) to meet the state requirements regarding students with disabilities and the candidates’ understanding of diversity in a multicultural society, EDCE 3000F became a stand-alone course. At the time of approval EDCE 2900F Inclusive Practices For The General Education Classroom (Grades 1-6) was still listed as a prerequisite. It has been found that students can take this course EDCE 3000F at the same time as EDCE 2900F and removing the prerequisite eases scheduling.

Course Name Seminar in Independent Media Arts Credits 3 Hours 3 Rationale There is too much duplication in this class with what is already covered in other classes, resulting in student

dissatisfaction. Also as a big percentage of our students are foreign, they usually cannot afford to take more than the required 54 credits for graduation, which means they are losing out on opportunities for internships. Right now students have to choose between an elective or an internship, and we want them to have the opportunity to have both without increasing the overall number of credits to graduate (which we just raised recently and feel we are at the limit). There are several topics covered only in this class that will be integrated into the curriculum of other classes, but these are not enough to warrant devoting an entire class to.
